I am comtemplating about buying Ninja Gaiden Black for $6-7 dollars (with pricegrabber rebate) to complete my xbox collection. However, tons of user and critic reviews mentioned that this game is extremely challenging and at times throw-your-controller-at-the-wall frustrating.

I'm just wondering is this game (on Ninja Dog difficulty) more challenging than the DMC3 (original version) on ps2. I quit DMC3 after the the 3rd or 4th level because I grew so frustrated and my hands hurted too much from pressing so many buttons.

I know this game is a classic and all but will I enjoy this game---even at this bargain price? Thanks.

Where are you getting it for $12 (before PG rebate)?

Anyway, I've never played it on Ninja Dog, only normal, and it is challenging but I never found it as frustrating as DMC3. Additionally, you don't have to press buttons as often. DMC3 pistols required you to press the gun button so much you got carpal tunnel syndrome. NG doesn't have anything similar. A lot of it is timing and awareness.

It is difficult, though, but extremely rewarding.

I think if you could do DMC3 on normal, Ninja Dog mode will be ok. NGB is extremely challenging, but in a skill oriented way, not cheap overpowered enemies (though there are a couple). I easily beat it on Dog mode, did normal with only minor difficulty, and beat hard with a hella lotta effort, but it was worth it.

For that cheap, def. worth it if you enjoyed DMC3. Also, don't let the first boss (with Nunchucks) scare you off. For some reason, until you get his timing down, he's pretty much the hardest thing in the first half of the game.

I was gonna get it from fye.com for used w/ $10 google checkout but it just sold out (used: $14.99 + $4 shipping + CA tax - $10 gco). It was $20 for new like a week ago but that also sold out (but is on backorder). Has anyone ever bought a used game from fye.com? I was afraid that it would come it poor condition---like no artwork or manual.

I could have probably beat DMC3 on normal if I tried but my hands got so sore from playing it. So I might just pick up NGB on half.com w/ $5 coupon or just rent it at BB for free. Thanks everyone for the help.

I understand where you are coming from. I resisted buying this game for the longest time because I heard its so hard. A few months ago I decided to buy it and I made it all the way to the half way mark (I never unlocked the Ninja Dog level much to my surprise). It helps to read the hints on Game faqs though paticularly with the first boss.

I had to stop playing it because I had to work on some animation stuff but I plan to start again. Its pretty hard-core but its a fun game too.

I am playing Ninja Gaiden (original XBOX version) on Normal difficulty and it is indeed fairly hard. However, it is entirely beatable, as I am on the second-to-last chapter. Do not be too frightened and pick it up! As everyone is saying, the game is difficult at first, but only because you do not know what techniques you should be using yet. But don't worry, the game gives you all the tools necessary to kick ass. Remember to block, as Ryu is invulnerable while he is blocking most attacks. Jumping attacks and dodging are also a necessity. The Flying Sparrow technique in particular will be your attack of choice on a large majority of the bosses, even, and you have that attack from the get-go if I remember correctly. EDIT: You don't. =/

It is an amazing (amazing) game that is technically flawless - save for the camera. I can assure you that with the new Ninja Dog mode, that is reportedly easier than Normal difficulty in the original, you will not have more trouble than fun playing this game.

BUY THIS GAME!

I found the undead archers placed to snipe you midair out of jumps in the middle of jumping puzzles to be so tedious I just gave up, and I loved the high difficulties of DMC and VJ.

Snipe them before you try the puzzle.
The 3 worst things about NG were (spoilers)
1. Spider ninjas with the incinderary surikens (made me give up for a month)
2. Ghost fish (gave up for another week)
3. Jumping puzzle towards the end (I have to go back to this)
As long as you sock up and play smart, you'll be safe. The first two levels are really hard though. Once you get the flying sparrow technique, you'll be fine

Snipe them? These are dudes that I could be slicing at for days without them dying. If I stop for the crappy sniping controls, they just shoot me! :p

DC3 was pretty damn hard but I was finally able to beat it on normal. I don't remember the DC1 being so fucking hard, and it is a better game than the 3rd or 2nd. I recently purchased Ninja Gaiden for xbox and it is pretty hard. I doubt I'll buy Black or Sigma for x360. I'm not sure if it is such a good strategy to create such difficult games but to each his own...

all I can say is stock up at the shop and pratice blocking and rolling.
Those ghost fish are the worst enemies in the whole game though. So cheap and it's really hard to get them off of you. They should of definately been axed

The fish aren't that big of a deal. They will stop respawning, so just run past them with the fire wheel or use the flails and take their asses out. They are frustrating but managable.

I used the flails and one of the ninpo......I'm stuck at the annoying jumping lava puzzle before the boss. I don't know if I'll ever beat the game. LOL. I'm gonna try to this year though.

BUY IT!!!!

It is a essential game to have in your xbox collection just like the Halo series.

Trust me, when NG 2 comes out on 360, you're gonna wish you had the original. This game will be a classic in about 5-10 years, so even if you don't want to play it, buy it anyways becuase it's cheap now, keep it factory sealed, then Ebay it later on.

No. Spend $560 + tax instead on Ninja Gaiden Sigma ;)
All kidding aside Ninja Gaiden Black is a MUST own. Ninja Gaiden was hands down one of the best XBox games available, and most rated it lower because they hated the difficulty. With Black you can pick Ninja Dog and It's manageable now. Black was rated alot better since it had all the extras without the live download, and the fact it's alot more playable now. Looking at the top 50 games for XBox (rating wise) I can't wait for the Ninja Gaiden sequel as It has more of a possibliity thanks to sales. Orta, Psychonauts, Rallisport and Beyond Good and Evil will probably never see those sequels due to lack of sales and such.
