Should I pick up Lunar 1 & 2?

Someone traded in Lunar Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2 Eternal Blue Complete at the EB that I work at today. They both include the original box with everything that was originally included in those boxes (wow that sentence is redundant). The discs are almost perfect and practically mint. I think these games are pretty rare but are they worth it at almost $40 each (minus EDGE minus 15% employee discount)? I'm really broke after buying the PSP + Games but these seem almost too good to pass up...

I'd say at least give Lunar 1 a shot. I have 2 and just never felt like playing it (put one hour into it and shelved it), but Working Designs did a great job on the translation IMO. Pick up 1 at least to get a feel for it.

Definitely. At the very least, you'll get your money out of them trading/selling them on here. At best, you'll really, really enjoy them AND have couple nice sets sitting on your shelf.

If you are not going to pick those up and that EB happens to be in the SF Bay Area, let me know where it is.

Whenever I see these topics I get a sad feeling in my stomach... I know it is a tad off topic but it is answering the question, with a little venting from me along with it...

I live in Redding, CA. Since it is a city that is not well known, I will say that Redding houses one of the best companies known in the gaming industry - Working Designs. Having a direct link to Victor Ireland himself (my father is a voice in Magic Knight Rayearth for the Saturn), I recieved LUNAR 1 for free. After experiencing the wonders of it on my neighbor's PS1, I purchased one as well. My neighbor became obsessed with the game. I found that the cardboard LUNAR box was missing, then the map, then the cool instruction booklet. Thankfully, I never lost the game.
When I discovered that LUNAR 2 was out, I just had to buy it. Going down to TRU with enough money, I snagged the last sealed copy in Redding and proceeded to complete the game, almost 100%, within a few days (yes, DAYS... well, up to 2 weeks). However, my mom decided to take away my PS1 a little after that. Once I get it back.... LUNAR 2 is no where to be found. It pissed me off to no end, seeing 50 dollars (this was when I was early into 8th grade) just vanish. I don't suspect my friend, even when I see he has a copy of the game (he promised his friend let him borrow it). Unfortunately and very unluckly, we get into a huge problem (cops and stuff... different story and unrelated) and I never have a chance of seeing the game again... or do I?

Around last year, I got the courage to confront him about it head on... and I was rewarded with result. Apparently, my brother had "let him borrow it" (yeah right) and he just never could get it back to me. I go over and... he shaq-fuing lost the shaq-fuing second disk to the freaking game!!!!! Now I have a cracked LUNAR 2 case, instruction booklet gone (same stuff that happened to the LUNAR 1 game, only missing a disk). I now have 5 game disks for 2 LUNAR games, scratched up (still work though) and broken cases (keep in mind, he DID do this... I try my best to keep my games in pristine condition). I just wish I could have it all back... but being myself, I can never re-buy a game (just makes me feel stupid) and... yeah.

Anyways, buy the games, you'll have so much fun... I can honestly say that that game was the sole game to get me fully into RPGs and farther into gaming then I could have ever imagined... I was young, yes, but it helped me imagine, believe, and hopefully achieve.

Here I am! You shouldn't even ask such a silly question. If you pass up those games, you will be missing out on two incredible RPG's, one of which being the best game ever! (Lunar 1) Hell, I'm in the process of hunting down all of the import versions of the Lunars!

Your dad wouldn't happen to have a copy of Rayearth would he? Becuase I would be mighty interested in snagging myself a copy...

Sad story too. My friends have never laid one finger on the awesomeness that is the Lunars. :D

He does have a copy, but since it is his only one, he doesn't really want to let it go unless the offer was really good for him. It is opened, but has never been played and as such has very, very, very (if any) few marks.

Are you saying that they are $40 - 25%, or is that $40 after the discount? Well, either way.... Heck yes, you should get them! Gosh!!! (just don't get kicked out on the street because you don't have enough for rent...).;)

Yeah, I never let people borrow my games anymore. Even if I never play the game, it's much happier sitting in my neatly alphabetized collection, than ruined in their junky bedroom. Too many damaged or not even returned games over the years. People can be such idiots. Then they say, "I gave it back already!" or, "It was scratched/torn/cracked/missing the instructions (or case)/covered in maple syrup/etc... when you gave it to me!" It's better to put up with them calling you anal retentive than to go through letting them borrow stuff.

Amen, all my friends know and are welcomed to the fridge, sofa, TV's, hell even consoles, but they damn well know to stay away from my games.

lunar 1 sucks pretty hard, lunar 2 is most definitely worth it if you are sure that everything is included(standees, soundtrack, necklace with pouch, map, omake box, bix cardboard box)

the saturn version of lunar SSS is very cheap, like $10 or so off of ebay so just get that or the gba game of lunar if you want to play lunar 1. i think lunar 1 sucks pretty bad tho, it is just a generic rpg. lunar 2 is a better game.

Well the Saturn version is in Japanese, and the GBA version is actually worst.

Gee, I guess those two copies that I placed on hold for myself are going to be bought tomorrow, hehe. Thanks for the replies guys. Time to borrow money from the roommates...

I remember buying the Lunar games originally.

I was working at Wal-Mart when Lunar 1 came out and put out full price minus 10% discount on it, and even though it was expensive I felt it was worth it.

With Lunar 2, I was monetarily in a bind however I scored huge, because I bought brand spankin' new copies of Lunar 2 and Valkyrie Profile (I was looking for both) from Playstation.com (when they use to sell games) when they were closing them out for the ultra low price......wait for it....

of $20 a piece. :D

Best deals I ever made on two hard to find (even then and this was what 3 years ago already) RPG's, just wish I could have gotten a complete copy of Arc the Lad Collection. But I have all the games now, so I'm not sweatin' it.

I'd have to say Lunar 1 was much better... probably because it was my first experience with the series... Lunar 2 felt like a rehash of the original, with basically the same main characters types.

I made one of the biggest mistakes of my life when I traded in my copy of Lunar 1. I was strapped for cash and drunk, but the pain that followed still haunts my nightmares to this day. Learn from the mistakes of others when they're willing to confess and don't repeat them!

Actually, I wasn't really drunk and I don't really have nightmares about it, but I do regret getting rid of it. Someday when I find it again at the right price I'll be buying it back. Trust me, get it and don't ever let go.

You will not regret picking these up, they are great games. You will regret loaning them out , so don't.

I lent my copy of Lunar 2 to a friend who moves around alot (mom's place->dad's place->grandparent's place-> lather, rinse, repeat) She moved her PS2 with my 2nd disc still in the fuckin system and put a deep scratch down the length of it. It wouldn't play after that. ;-; She said she'd buy me another copy (although she was pissed at me for getting upset about the scratch, I won't get into THAT fight). About 3 years later she fucked up her Valkyrie Profile game and me and my boyfriend stole the scratch repair we forced her to buy to fix the discs of ours she ruined. So it plays now, but I couldn't get the scratch off entirely. Needless to say, I haven't lent her a thing since. (Oh yeah, the Valkyrie Profile we fixed? She lost it. For the 3rd time. I do NOT understand how this person can treat her discs so...)

Random note to coobrys: I'll let you know if she ever buys Lunar 2. Since I'm sure she'll lose most of it, chances are she'll end up with a loose disc 2 I can get for you to fill in your set.

Hah, thanks. That would be awesome.

Oh, so mean...

Who called in this morning before I got to work to put them on hold? I wasn't sure whether I was gonna pick them up yesterday so I didn't put my name on them...this morning before I got to work, someone called, asked SPECIFICALLY about the two games that they somehow knew were there and were complete to be put on hold for them.

So so mean...that was really mean...very very mean...

Wow I can't believe someone would do that. Now I kind of feel bad asking you where that EB is. If it makes you feel any better I saw a complete (info deleted)

I can. And they aren't going to admit it. I can't believe you told everyone where they were at. Sorry that happened though, that sucks.

sometimes i just take my lunar 2 and lunar sss out, and lay out all the accessories, the books and just sorta creepily look at them...

yah...

damn, that was some of the most fun i've ever had gaming...

...whew...

Wow, you're right that is very wrong of whoever did that. That really sucks. Just so you don't think it was me, well it wasn't because I don't live in that state and wasn't even in it in the morning, nor phoned in on those games.

Wasn't me, I could never do that... too far away and too little money.... and I would never do something like that to a fellow CAG...

To my neighbor on the other hand...

Wow that is mean, but you'd be amazed how many evil little wall spiders we have here. A deal will be announed with 50 copies and often if it's really good all of them are gone before a few response posts are made. Then somehow they all magically appear on ebay.

Aren't their actions to prevent crap like this? I think the deal and trade forum should be restricted to people under X posts. When someone reaches X posts their posts could be reviewed to see if they were just spamming or actually contributing. I'd say 100 posts for deals and 150 for trading. More posts for trading would give a better insight as to their character.
Also, I think open registration is a bad idea. You should need to be a member to see everything except general topics. deleting 0-

Sorry to hear someone was underhanded and "stole" them right out from under you.

You know that's one of the reasons I waited so long to join the forums. Because I am very protective of my "sources" for getting cheap stuff, I found a very rare game here recently and will not share what it is, but to say the least it goes for almost $30 on Ebay (which is modest) but considering I'm getting a copy for $2 on Tuesday (and I can get ahold of 3-4 more in my area) but I'm not going to because I'm not in it for the money.

I know some people here buy cheap stuff to resell it, and that is there perogitive. I just don't believe that is the spirit this site was set up with and what it was meant to be.

I remember being all psyched during the CC clearance last year and wanting to score a copy of Rez for my collection, only to see multiple copies go on Ebay only hours after the sale. Not for their collections but to rip others off, that's not the CAG spirit. And that really pisses me off when I see $#!@ like that.

Anyway I don't mean to be a wanker, since I'm new to the community (but not of the school of CAG) and be on my soapbox. But this just illustrates something that will restrict me "sharing" any really good deals, that aren't widely known about, to more than a few people I learn to trust and think have that spirit I mentioned.

To whoever screwed her on her buy, shame on you...may your collection be stolen by someone who you trust. And see if you learn anything from it.

Later. :)

If you don't buy Lunar 1 you deserve to be banned from this forum.

Lunar 2 is kind of lame, though.

EDIT: Saw the follow-up. We need to send out a cheap-ass firing squad on whoever did that.

i think it's the nature of a webforum to have people be little shits. especially gaming forums where you have people aged anywhere from 13-50. If this were a high end audio forum, i doubt we'd have these problems. it's just little shits who don't know better.

but, you should cheer up, copies of Lunar 1 and 2 always pop up from time to time, i got Silver Star Story on ebay complete for $25 two years ago.

and btw. SSS did NOT suck, anyone who thinks so is a certified chode-smoke
