Should I trade my old xbox 360 for a new one?

Gamestop is currently running two promotions:

1. $90 credit if you trade in your xbox with a wireless controller

2. $149.99 for a 4GB xbox console

I currently have the old white xbox with HDMI. Is it worth it to upgrade? Is there any way I can maximize this deal any more? I also have a xbox wireless internet adapter I could possibly sell for ~$30 to make back some more money.

Note: my old xbox has a 20gb hard drive, but gamestop said I could keep it. I would just transfer it to the 4gb console.

First of all the hard drive is not compatible to the new system. You should probably try to get the one with a hard drive that's on sale if possible.

Second of all, the new 360 is superior in every way to the old one. Performance it runs cooler, faster and quieter than the old one. It looks nice too, which is a plus. If you install games on the hard drive (for better performance and load times) you definitely need the one with the hard drive. Also, 4gb is not a lot of space for DLC or arcade games. Memory management is a pain if it's on a constant basis.

Upgrade! It's worth the extra money to get the one with the HDD. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice. I just got back from gamestop. They gave me $95 for my white 360. They checked to make sure it didnt have RROD. Also, they only needed A/V cables, power cables and a controller. I got to keep my 20gig hard drive and wireless network adapter. I also had a $40 gamestop gift card from a year ago so I ended spending $18 out of pocket. I think once I sell my old wireless network adapter, I'll come out about even.

I pried open the old 20gig hard drive enclosure and pulled out the hard drive. I was able to slide it in to the new slim 360 and its working great. Just ordered an xbox slim HD enclosure off dealextreme just to make sure it doesnt move around in there. All in all, it was worth it.

Did they check under the faceplate to see if the warranty sticker was still intact?

I would love to take advantage of this deal. I have 6 fat x360's, all working, but none of which have an intact warranty sticker. I was going to sell them on CS, but if GS will take it then that would be awesome!

I guess if worse comes to worse, I could pull an intact warranty sticker off my primary console and put it on one of the consoles I repaired... Hard to pass up on a deal like that when I got 5 fats sitting on the floor in front of me doing nothing.

to be honest, i am not sure how extensively they checked the console. They put the xbox under the counter when they did the test so I couldn't see if they checked anything beyond the RROD issue. Verbally, they said they were making sure it turned on and that there was no RROD. I highly doubt they checked to see if it was banned as that would have required them to recover a gamertag to my xbox and connecting it to a router which would have taken much longer than it did.

The verification process will probably depend on whoever checks the console for you.

Right on, well thanks for the heads up on the deal, I'll give it a shot. Worst they can do is say no...

And I just remembered I have a MS refurb warranty sticker (the newer, non-silver one) that I can glue on there that should do the trick ;)
