Japanese gaming mag Famitsu brings word that the late great city builder SimCity is making an appearance on the DS. Called SimCity DS, this handheld version is based on the PC's SimCity 3000. The game is said to feature "full stylus-based controls, mini games and a new adviser character who helps you out when designing your city."

There will be three modes to play: Build a New City, Save the City and Sister City. It seems that the Sister City mode could possibly take advantage of Nintendo's Wi-Fi Network as you'll be able to chat with other players and trade landmarks. No other official or U.S. announcement has been made, but according to Famitsu, the game will be released sometime in the winter in Japan. We hope it doesn't take too long for it to make the jump stateside.

This would be pretty sweet if its done well, hope its brought over state side

I don't know how popular Sim City is in Japan, but I can see this selling quite a few copies (500,000+) if the people porting it don't screw it up. A state side release would be great.

Is SimCity 3000 good? I hated SimCity 2000 but I did enjoy SimCity 4. Since this DS port is based on 3000 I'm curious.

Sim City 2000 is the best one. Simcity 4 is the worst one. So if you like 4 you most likely will not like 3000 because SC4 is something completely different and 2000 and 3000 are kind of the same..
Nice. And then maybe they will release Sim Tower on the DS as well, why the fuck did they port that to the GBA?
SimTower for DS would be awesome. Especially if I can stalk the inhabitants like in the original.

I think SC3000 was the weakest link in the chain, with SC2000 and SC4 being tops, but SC3000 was still a blast. I hope they bring it here!
Yes because we all hate thsoe damn Japanese in video games! :p
Perhaps you and I don't, but some people can be like that. Racism still exists, believe it or not.

True, but the point is that they don't remove every Asian character, situation, or locale from video games before bringing them over here. They got more than enough Western tile sets to wrok with from the PC games that a port, if it was changed, wouldn't be that much effort.

Well, hopefully. I want this game ASAP.

This is great news. I still can remember the hours upon hours I poured into the SNES version (my personal favorite of all the installments). It's a great game for the stylus. I'd be surprised if this didn't come stateside.

I'm surprised people like 2000 better than 3000. I remember hating 2000 for some reason.

Thanks for posting this OP!

People hate 3000 because it ran badly on even the best PCs when it came out, plus it adds a lot of little things that didn't make it as much on a "pick up and play game". It's not bad like Simcity 4, but it's not great either.

Installed SimCity 2000 on my brand new HP laptop 3 weeks ago. For the first time ever I get a city in the positive, as a matter of fact I produced so much excess electricity and clean water the my citizens live TAX FREE. So what happens? My laptop dies, I had to exchange the laptop knowing that my ultimate city with a surplus in the millions and only city to run more then 2 hours real time was lost forever.

I feel playing some Sim City. I'm going to install it. :D

Edit: Wasn't there a online version of Sim City? Called Sim City 2000 Network Edition or something? How does that work?

Mine too.... the SNES had one of the best soundtracks to a Sim City.

You mean 3000. :)

And both Sim City and Sim City 2000 were on the SNES. Sim Ant and Sim Earth were also released.
