The Jefferson County Board on Monday approved a resolution affirming its support of marriage as “a sacred union between one man and one woman.”

He asked his fellow board members whether a yes or a no vote would be against gay marriage.

“I just want to make sure I vote against gay marriage,” he said.

Old people aren't the only ones not in favor of this; social change doesn't work like that. People seem to take what improvements we've had as a natural progression while ignoring that there are still people out there fighting progress or turn it back and others fighting to maintain or further what progress we've made. We only need to look at the abortion debate to see this in action.

There's still an abortion debate? Wasn't this settled in the 70s?

It's obviously not solely old people but over time as new generations come up things will change and people (as a whole) will become more tolerant until the thing that got everyone so fired up in the first place doesn't really exist anymore. Sure you will have your outliers like the KKK or Westboro Baptist Church but they are just organizations with big mouths and no real power.

Believe it or not, the abortion debate has actually revved up a bit in the last few years. Fewer and fewer Americans now consider themselves pro-choice. Don't know if they would consider themselves "pro-life," which is a silly term. But a lot of the turnover has to do with the easy access to birth control and the increased effectiveness of birth control methods.

As far as gay marriage goes, it's such a non-issue to me, it's not even funny. Men and women have been ing up marriages for a long time. If men and men or women and women wanna give it a go-around, by all means let them.

Speaking of abortion, a federal judge just had to slap a restraining order on the state of Mississippi, in their attempt to effectively ban abortions by forcing doctors at the state's lone clinic to have admitting privileges at a local hospital.
