changed topic... good call

I went to see this movie last night and was very impressed, really didn't know what to expect. Brittany Murphy looked pretty damn good in the movie and as far as Jessica Alba goes she is one of the hottest girls ever made, I think she got an 11/10 at girls.ign.com

I was gonna see this movie for Jessica Alba ALONE.......didn't know of the whole plethora of stars that are in this.....I got that sneak peek dvd from Best Buy which has some REALLY good behind the scenes stuff---even includes Carla Gugino baring her top.......

I saw the movie last night. The unique style of the movie was fantastic. While I do wish they could have tied the plots together better, the style, action, dialog more than made up for it. I've never read the Sin City comics before, but this movie really really felt like one -- more than any other comic book turned movie conversion I've ever seen.

There were some comical scenes that really worked in the movie too, as well as some Tarentino (special guest director) inspired fight scenes and dialog. Best movie I've seen all year -- maybe a couple of years. I'm already hoping the DVD is an extended director's cut edition.

My friend and I thought the style is strikingly similar to the prviews we've seen so far of Killer 7.

i thought the movie was pretty damn good, but i had my beef with it

Brittney Murphey and Micheal Madsen hammed things up in their perspective roles. Since I know they are capable of doing good work, seems like they were told to ham it up by Rodriguez.

Also, Alba not stripping really stood out in the movie like a sore thumb. Come on, you're in a part of town with 3/4 naked whores standing on the corners and with most likely a dozen different nudie bars around the town, you're telling me that they'll come to watch a girl that wouldn't take it off?

Overall though, it was faithful to the original and awesome. Clive Owens and Mickey Rourke put out some fantastic performances. I give it a B+

does anyone have one of those best buy DVD perview things of this movie? im willing to pay you for it! really wanna get my hands on one :(
It was fucking awesome, and I think having Jessica Alba in it was worth the sacrifice of not having her character strip.
agree'd

I've got 3. :D

Just saw it. Excellent movie! My paticular favorite section is the Mickey Rourke section. Even without the hot chicks, this movie is brilliant!

I'm not gonna see it. I can't stand Frank Miller. Really hated the comic.

Just kidding. I almost blew my load when they announced they were making this flick. I'm gonna try and see it tomorrow

I saw this last night , me and the wife, we read that yellow bastard, and the story with marv in it.VERY good movie! Did you guys see anyone leave the movie? I saw a handful of people(mainly old people, and women) leave after about 30 min. into it.

I also agree with the other post about,Brittney Murphey and Micheal Madsen( very disapointed with his acting)both were poor....

I saw the movie yesterday and it's easily one of the best movies I've seen in the theatre in a long while. I'm thinking about going to see it again tomorrow.

The movie is bound to polorize people. Some people who cant handle violence (and its lurid subject matter) are gonna hate it.

CAGs generally speaking are young men and the more majority of us should like it.

The comics were great and the movie was great...for what it was. I don't know how people were expecting to be blown away since it was exactly like the book. Since I knew exactly what was going to happen in every scene, and what every character was going to say, I wasn't too impressed.

You should only watch Sin City if you HAVEN"T read the books, since that's who it was made for.

saw it today
oooo shit was this a hot fucking movie
And I own 90% of the comics
definite price jump for me
I predict gonna break first weekend in April sales record

I bought the books right before I went to see the movie, and I'm going to read it later ... probably when I can't wait for the DVD any longer.

little known jessica alba fact
she had a super quick glimpse scene in the early 90's classic movie "Camp Nowhere"
i luv that fucking movie

Just got home from it. Wow.

I remember the first time I ever saw one of the graphic novels. I was browsing a comic shop and saw the "Booze, Broads, and Bullets" cover, the one with the woman in the bright red dress on the cover. I was just thumbing through it, liked what I saw, but never paid it another bit of mind after that.

But wow, what a damn movie. I'm about to order the first two novels. Something to read in between classes (who the fuck am I kidding, I'm reading them the moment they arrive).
Madsen was dissapointing, but he was so bad that you know it had to be intentional.
My thoughts exactly. This is what they were going for. Dime-store novel drama. Yes, it was a bit hammy, but it was supposed to be that way.

Great movie. I want to see it again, but I'm cash strapped, so maybe I'll wait for the DVD to come along.

My friend made a good observation: Mickey Rouke looks a lot more like the Thing (from Fantasic Four) than Michael Chiklis (in the movie at the least). He has a good point too.

Unfortunately, I do not. Right now, I'm trying to find $1.88 worth of stuff for free shipping at Amazon. Any suggestions?

Murphy's performance is close to how I'd picture someone playing the character of Shellie...Though she's not really a good actress, she probably was told to play it that way and her performance fit the characters peronality IMO. Same goes for Madsen really. Alba's character is supposed to be naked about half the time anyway, but to keep her in that role (which I thougth she turned in one of the more lacking performances) they toned down her exposure so to speak.

You'd be paying about the same amount at borders anyway, after the discounts even.

None. Unless you want to order from buy.com, which has free shipping on all books right now.

I don't think he did do any fight scenes, just the one scene with Dwight and Refferty in the car as far as I know, which did have some great dialogue.

I just ordered a cheap CD with it, thanks anyways. I can't wait to get them. I haven't bought a comic/graphic novel in about 5 or 6 years. It takes something pretty special to get my attention I suppose.

That's an odd way of thinking about it...For starters there was a slect few of scenes and dialogue that wasn't even in the comics or were changed. Also, usually faithful adaption are intended to apeeal to fans of something more so than non-fans. If you were appealing to just an average movie going audience you wouldn't bother to recreate every scene exactly.

I get what you mean about appealing to the fans, but if they are going to do it exactly like the book (the DVD will have the uncut version), there's really no point in paying for it.

I wish I had NOT read the books BEFORE seeing the movie, because there were no surprises (except for the little stuff they took out). What I'm saying is, if you have already read the books, there's nothing in it for you to go watch the movie. You will enjoy it better if you don't know what happens. If you have the books but have not read them, wait until after the movie.

It's not like it was a book (with only words and no pictures) and you were surprised how it turned out. The characters look like the comic and do the same things they do in the comic. If Frank Miller ever writes an new Sin story for the big screen, I'll get excited.

I DID enjoy it on a technical level, but that's just the Filmmaker in me.

Just saw the movie last night, and I friggin' LOVED it. There was some acting that wasn't so hot, as mentioned before, but Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, and Bruce Willis were pretty damn good and Elijah Wood was just downright CREEPY. Who knew Frodo could be such a badass? It's definitely a movie I'll need to see again in the theater and then buy the super deluxe edition DVD when it comes out.

Yeah I could see that, for an audience to not have any twists or suprises is kind of mind numbing I suppose, no one likes having all of the film spoiled for them. It's kind of like reading a book or comic adaption of a movie before you see the actual movie in a way. But in doing things the way they did I think they were especially intending reach those who had read them along with who had not.

I mean I read the books and was just thinking "wow they did such a great job recreating that...it's almost amazing" I didn't find it all boring really, but I guess you can chalk that up to difference of opinion and so forth.

I felt the same way, I was thinking "that was almost page for page like the books,AWSOME!"

I enjoyed how they made it also. That was the only reason I went to see it. I don't usually like green screen but it fit this project so perfectly.

Wasn't listed on mrskin.com so i did a lil searching, all the way at the bottom of the page. BTW she was 13 when the movie was released. :nottalking:

Glimpse of what?

I wanna see Sin City but i never got aroun to seeing Ring 2, i'll see this over the ring those cause Jessica is hAWT.

I saw this last night with a friend. We both took dates. Both of our dates were pretty horrified, but they enjoyed the style of the movie. Both of us just wanted to go home and play The Punisher or Max Payne.

But seriously, WTF was Josh Hartnett doing in this movie? I don't mean what was his character's role, I mean why was he cast for the part?

Has anyone seen Brittany Murphy recently? When she was blonde, she always looked like a skanky crack whore to me, no matter what movie she was in. Now she's a brunette and she looks sweet as honey to me.

And Mickey Rourke? BAD-ASS!

Get Sin City posters here.

Because he was one the people Robert Rodriguez approached and could get to do 'The Customer is Always Right" short (the opening scene) for next to nothing so that Rodriguez could convince Frank Miller they could make a good Sin City movie.

...I'm still waiting for someone to come in and complain...and that hasn't happened yet.

Even with the good comic movies people bitch, but so far, not Sin City. We've sold quite a few of the trades, and a lot of people who are just hyped to hear Miller wanting to make a Hartigan prequel comic.
