Slim PS2 and Thumbdrives

This may be an old or previously answered question but is it possible to use a thumbdrive or usb harddrive with the slim ps2?

from what i have been told by others on the codebreaker forums, is that the slim PS2 has model #SCPH 750001 has Anti-Pen Drive Programming.

... that really doesn't make sense. Why would Sony care about backing up saves to a thumb drive or cheat codes?

Its not like you can really put a whole game on a 2gb stick...

I use a thumb drive with my slim ps2 all the time with no problems. It even recognizes my Creative Zen Micro as a storage device! Not sure what model slimmy I have tho...
