So if I liked Ratchet & Clank...?

CAGiversary!
I'm a newb PS2 owner and have been playing R&C going commando. I'm having a ton of fun with it - a perfect blend of platforming and blasting. Is R&C up your arsenal the same thing, better, or worse? are there any other games similar that I might like? Haven't even opened JAK II yet.

It's basically the same game. It feels a tad shorter to me IMO, but it adds multi-player (online and offline) which is great. If you liked GC, there's pretty much a guarntee you'll like UYA. IMO, UYA was my favorite in the series, although I love every single R&C game a lot (I even like Deadlocked a lot, although not as much as 1-3).

I think Maximo is as fun as the RC games. A bit more frustrating at times but it has a good blend of platforming and sword fighting.

I've only Played "Up Your Arsenal" but found it incredibly fun, and a quality title.

probably the most impressive thing to me is that you can configure the controls to play the game any way you like. I really liked the 1st-Person/3rd-Person shooter set-up, it was just like playing Metal Arms.

Does anyone know if you can set-up the controls that way (3rd-person shooter style... moving with the left stick and aiming the crosshair with the right) in Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando?

I know you can do so it Deadlocked but I was wondering if that feature was new to Up your Arsenal.

I thought Up Your Arsenal placed a little more emphasis on the shooting aspects, and less on platforming, than the other titles, but essentially it's more of the same. If you liked Going Commando, I can't imagine you won't like UYA.

For R&C:GC you can setup 3rd-person shooter style but only once you've already beaten the game the first time.

That's awesome!! I'm totally going to pick that up now. I may have to Gameshark it or something so I don't have to play through it on the default control scheme.

Thank you for the info!!!!

Sure - I tried it but didn't like it in GC because when you threw the wrench, you were stuck in place until it came back. Maybe they ironed out those kinks in later games.. just be careful.

The R&C series is awesome, I've played them all. The third one is definately the best, though Gladiator is slightly different and I enjoyed that, too, since you're on a reality TV programme 'nd all (plus you 'don't have' Clank). You may also like Jak & Daxter, which I enjoyed even more than R&C.

I second the Sly series, though I've only played Sly2 so far. I am also currently playing my first Jak game (2). Thus far I'm saying R&C > Sly > Jak, but of course that may change as I play Sly3 and Jak3.

UYA is a little more fully-featured than GC, but it isn't quite the quantum leap GC was over the first game, so it has a lesser place in my personal pantheon. If you're new to the series though, get UYA.

As much fun as "Deadlocked" can be, it has the problem of pulling the player out of an arena just when the action starts getting really hectic, like the necessary task is completed. If you don't have online multiplayer capability, it will be a disappointment after UYA.

I miss the longer levels and platforming aspects of the first three games. I hope they bring them back for the next one.

The Sly Cooper games are all great. As for Jak & Daxter, the first and third games are perfectly-formed and well-paced adventure games and every PS2 owner should have them. As for Jak2 ... I finished it all right, but it was just too frustrating for its own good. (not challenging: frustrating.. there's a difference)
