Yes, it's official. I have the WORST computer on EARTH. My computer chugs when it runs The Sims. No, you didn't read that wrong. MY COMPUTER BARELY RUNS THE SIMS! Why? Why did this have to happen to me?! *crys softly in the corner*

I hate when people complain that their whole computer stinks cause they can't run a game.

I hope you realize that it could be a ton of different things.

- not enough memory
- not enough free memory
- outdated drivers
- low end video card
- conflicts with background programs in os
- the game instalation
- the game itself
- crappy game patch

etc, etc, etc

ah, you have a very common proble called "mycomputersapieceofshitandimtoocheaptobuyanewone" syndrome. i too once had it, but then half life 2 was announced so i sheled out the 2300. and if the sims is running slow, its probably the cpu.

The reason I said what I said is because 99% of the time when you have a problem with a game and go to the game's helpcenter for help they will tell you that it is your fault or that your pc stinks - which is not always true.

And $2300 just to play HL2 is super overkill...I though this was cheapassgamer.com

Absolutely true! That's gotta be the first rule of tech support: "It's your fault, not ours, and at no time will it be ours!"

Again, very true! That's why I'm not a PC gamer...I'll just wait for it to come out on Xbox.

I've been a console gamer since 1999. My PII 350mhz has been too much of a dog to run anything for the last 4 years anyway. I think the last PC game I bought (until recently) was Half-Life. I've so much enjoyed plug and play gaming, never having to worry about how much memory I had, if all my background tasks were shut down, if my sound card was configured properly, etc. etc.

I built a new system 2 months ago and purchased Jedi Academy. I still havent cracked the shrinkwrap yet as I dread the hour or so it may take to get it to run. Constant tweaking and rebooting is even more annoying after being spoiled by the console for so many years.

I've tried to shy away from PC gaming, but I would like to run some of the oldies (i.e. The Sims, Tribes, Half-Life, etc.). I'm the ultimate console gamer, but memory, CPU, motherboard, blah blah blah scares me.

If you really just want to run the 'oldies' you could probably shell out less than $300 for some memory and a new video card and be totally fine.
well not only hl 2. i have over 130 pc games and i need a decnt pc to play them. my 3 year old laptop wasnt cutting it.
How much do you want for your old laptop.

Im shelling out for a new video card within a month or asking for it for my birthday. Either way, DooM III is gonna be cake.

I just wanted to say that pc gaming is great although it can be expensive when it comes time to upgrade.

Console and pc gaming are two completely different experiences and I wouldn't like to be without either of them.

Hey, I just loaded Jedi Academy and had NO problems whatsoever!! I can't believe it ! WOO HOO!!!

I remember it taking the better part of an hour to get Dark Forces and Rebel Strike to run oh so many years ago.... This new computer stuff is cool!

It's ALL about MAME baby!

Aren't they coming out with this system that'll play PC games but will run everything automatically through script files and downloads new scripts every night or something? The name of it escapes me, but may be interesting if they can get it to work correctly.

$2300 is insane. I dropped $330 for a 2GHz (granted it's a Celeron, and only has a GeForce 4 64MB video card) shipped just a few weeks ago. Runs like a champ and plays everything on the market just fine.

For about $700 I got a P4 2.4GHz, 512MB RAM, 120 GB hard drive, and a GeForce FX 5600 256MB video card. If you're paying more than a grand for a new machine, you are:
-Getting a video card that just came out in the past month (bad idea)
-Buying an enormous flat screen monitor (not for cheapass gamers)
-Getting ripped off in general.

330 is not bad when did you get it? At that price now you can get 2600+ Mid-high Radeon, 512 2700, 52x burner...etc of course no monitor.. Luckally I get monitors for free from my workplace

I think you are talking about the "Phantom".

Just finished my BitTorrent of the non-CHD set complete for .79 the day before .80 came out. BAD. FREAKIN. ASS. Now all i can do is wait for my official vintage Capcom 6 button fighter PC sticks to arrive from the miracle of ebay and get that video card with the S-Video out and i will reach that far away dream of King Of Fighters '98 and SFA2 tournaments on my TV.

No, he's talking about DISCover, it actually uses the PC discs, whereas the Phantom downloads all games with no other hardware (e.g., discs) needed.

www.emuconnect.com
only one at a time and pop ups, but no limit on dl speeds

new version still only supports up to 3 damnit. 3 is the best imo. mst weapons, levels, branching paths. and that twist halfeway through. 3 owns, but i want 4 and 5.

Sounds impossible to me. How could a conosle figure out all the configuration and setup that sometimes goes into PC games? True, they usually follow a certain pattern of storage on discs, installation, how its run, but this I dont think this could really ever be done to %100 working condition on any current of next gen games. Remember, my opinion.
