So where the hell do I find an original XBox?

Well my search isn't that difficult but I'm trying work out the easiest way possible. I have $90 to Gamestop but they don't have any nearby or on the website anymore. People on craigslist are selling them with a crapload of sports games for $75. There's a local game store that has one for $35 but it's not a chain so if it's broke, I can only get store credit back. Creative suggestions?

Thrift stores, ebay, craigslist, independent game stores, yard sales, flea markets or friends are the only ways I can think of. $35 doesn't sound that bad.

i would agree, first look on craigs, how much cheaper than $35 do you expect to find one? Be careful with the craigslist bundles with a bunch of games, more than likely they are hacked and you are getting game copies or games copied to the hard disk, that's up to you if that's ok, just be warned, it's out there and i don't think people should be rewarded for doing those types of things.

I have four. One I used to use for XBox Live, one is a friend's, one was bought off a friend for cheap, and the other one is still new/sealed with Forza.

They're not common to find anymore, I guess. Ask friends if they have any.

I got one from some guy who trying to trade it into Bookman's for $20, and they wouldn't take it because instead of the serial number it had a PnT refurbished sticker. Works perfectly and was already modded with XBMC.

I miss my Xbox, It's hard to get a decent functional console nowadays, I went through about 5-6 units that started doing the disk read error...and I doubt MicroSucks cares anymore. I would try and hunt down a new unit at a goodwill/thrift or just go under under Scorch's bed and jack his...unless you really want to play halo get a Ps2 instead...

I was just about to say that I found it odd that you couldn't get one at a local GS, but I just looked, and none are popping up close to me via an online search, either. I remember when they had stacks and stacks of them and used GameCubes right on the floor, basically begging someone to buy them. I guess, they just started dumping them?

Now that is really funny considering PS2's had a pretty high failure rate (more so than original Xbox's). On topic though, I would bet that most GS stores got rid of Xbox's because there were so many not selling. They probably shipped them off to the warehouse to make room for inventory on next gen consoles. Your best bet will be trying Craigslist (demand to test it first if you want to avoid modded or broken consoles) or thrift stores/pawn shops.

Maybe they all sold finally since Gamestop has the games and accessories as either B2G2 or 50-75% off, though I forget which.

I still have my original Xbox from 2005 in my closet. It's sat there unused for the most part since I got my PS3. Mind you, I should drag it out one of these days and play The Guy Game;) or The Warriors on it.

I checked craigslist and it looks like there's some people not in my immediate area that have them for around $20. That seems like my best course of action right now.

Rhode Island

I'd ideally like to trade some stuff in to the local shop so I can get the XBox and then no harm/no foul if it's broke but not having any luck there.
Check local thrift shops. I just picked one up today for $20 with power cord and AV cables. They had three in stock.
The Salvation Army near me has one for $45 as-is. Yeesh.

Throw out an ad on craigslist in the Wanted section.
Describe what you want and are willing to pay.
Usually works, but might take till the weekend.
How much are you looking to "spend" to get one? I'm sure you can find people on here you can trade with.
The price for shipping would be more than it's worth. those suckers are heavy!

Huh? The DVD drive in the Xbox was pure crap. The failure rate had to be at least 5x higher than the PS2. I had 2 fail myself; my launch PS2, which got a lot more use, is still running.

They could use a large flat rate Priority Mail shipping box from the USPS. Although it might be a bit of a tight fit, as long as it it fits it ships.;)

Then just wrap up the controller, cables in a bag of some sort so they don't damage the case in transit, pack in some newspaper or something to hold it all in place and you're good to go.

So they don't damage the case? I don't think a bomb could damage that case. You could easily bludgeon someone to death with one of them.

Well if you ever make it to Boston, there is a place in Revere that sells the regular xbox for 20 bucks (with 2 microsoft controllers and all cords).
