Someone's an iLoser Out There!

jollydwarf

CAGiversary!
The fact that geeks, particularly of the gaming variety, don't like to hear/read any negativity about what they like is old hat and will never change. I'm almost at peace with that. Thing is, I've submitted a handful of podcast reviews on iTunes, some very positive, some...not quite as much. As you and the sun rising in the east might have guessed, the more stars I gave a podcast, the higher the percentage of people who found it 'helpful'.

Until now.

While grabbing the latest "GFW Radio", I noticed that someone very recently added a "Not Helpful" submission to my review of it. So, by extension, I became curious to check on my others. Imagine the mixture of incredulity and bemusement on my face when I saw that all of my reviews were--within the last couple days, I'm positive--tarnished with a "Not Helpful". This could only be the work of one person.

But who? Could it be someone from Ziff-Davis, bumping me down the list? No, because most of my reviews for their shows are very positive, and not all of my reviews are for their podcasts. And the "OPM" podcast has been defunct for months. (Similarly, I haven't submitted a review in months.) No, this has to be some utterly pathetic, irredeemable 'user' who actually took offense to one of my reviews and decided to go off on anything I contributed, good or bad. Maybe I should write a five-star bogus review for a "Cat Fancy" podcast (if there is one), just to see if they check back and bite the bait.

I even had to wonder if it's someone here that connected some dots. If on that off-chance it is, fuck you. I don't care about these reviews, contrary to what you're thinking right now, but it really speaks volumes for the gaming community when you've got little (or very big) snivelling shits that 'exact revenge' on someone for stating an opinion by pissing on every carpet they own. Were I hardwired differently, I might actually feel sorry for them.

Anyone else got any stories about this sort of thing, maybe even someone with a major-league vendetta following you around to other forums where you're registered under the same name? Anyone else experience the phenomenon that is no one being able to find a 'fair warning' helpful, and sometimes taking ridiculous offense to it?

What, the "fuck" strategically-placed didn't draw you in and keep you reading?

Next week's topic: "The Attention Span: Gone the Way of the 2-D Console Game?"

Next week's topic: "The Attention Span: Gone the Way of the 2-D Console Game?"
You know what I'd do if I were a mod? I'd temp ban you for a few days, because if you're taking what happens on the interbutt this seriously you need some time off. Time off outdoors, ideally.

I think you're letting this get to you a little too much. So there's an asshole somewhere online giving your reviews a "not helpful" rating, so what? It's not going to ruin your life. There's nothing you can really do about it, so quit wasting your time getting pissed over it.
*insert stupid rant*
I don't like you very much, so I would probably leave you a not helpful or w/e you are talking about.

Did you ever once think that maybe someone actually did'nt like your podcast? I know, impossible.

No, no, no, you guys are missing the point. I actually got a chuckle out of it. I'm just pointing out how impossibly sad some people are. And I do think there's something to my insinuation that it's someone here, because a few days ago there was a "Favorite Gaming Podcast Besides CAGCast" thread that I posted in that might have given someone who already hates me here enough info to jump to a conclusion about which reviews I've written. And you can't get much sadder than that.

Don't ever correlate my verbosity and rambling with caring. That would diminish the times I'm too pissed to type anything but one sentence about some corporate bullshit or insane gamer(s). And yes, I do actually have more 'shorter' posts than ones like this topic. Check if you doubt.

I don't like you very much, so I would probably leave you a not helpful or w/e you are talking about.

Of course, personal beefs take precedent over content and validity. Of course. And I know how probably about, oh, 75% of the CAGs feel about me. Whatever. Not here to make friends...but not here to make enemies, either. Just say what I gotta say.

Did you ever once think that maybe someone actually did'nt like your podcast? I know, impossible.

Well, it's my podcast reviews, not my podcast, and it was for all of my reviews, not just the bad ones. Reading comprehension: not a priority with 'the kids', apparently.

The replies to this thread seem only to prove OPs point. You don't care what he said, you just want to piss all over it just because it is jollydwarf. Sad.
Ignore list FTW!!!
You're missing out on good tears, though. "Which one of you did it?! Which one of you negatively reviewed my podcast reviews?! Come on! I know it was one of you! I'll get you for this, whoever it was! You're dead!"
I'll bet jollydwarf hated JFK because there weren't enough conspiracy theories.
Jollydwarf and Slidecage should meet in person and expose conspiracies.

Thank you. (The generalized) 'you' don't like/hate me? Fine! Rock on! But if that means you've got to 'get your nuts off' on flinging pebbles at iTunes reviews to 'learn me sumpin', then you're beyond hope. And those cheering that mentality are worse.

can't imagine why someone would maliciously attack your reviews. I have no idea at all.

I'm going to go 'all in' on that being the text embodiment of Facetiousness. Apologies if it's not. Except...it is.

Ignore list FTW!!!

Is that what evan said? Hey, we agree on something!

P.S. And for what it's worth, I imagine whoever it was making that "Nnnnnyuh! Nnnnn...yuh-yuh!" sound that Shawn Elliott/"Whiskey Nerd" made on last week's "GFW", everytime they clicked on "Not Helpful". It's really funny how the tech-obsessed can so often be the most Neanderthal with everything else.

EDIT: Jollydwarf and Slidecage should meet in person and expose conspiracies.

Hey, I'm not going to argue that. I've got a sense of humor about it to go with my tinfoil hat collection. But from my perspective, the timing of this blanket 'attack' (ha!) is odd, considering how ancient most of those reviews are.

But wouldn't that rip the fabric of time?
But wouldn't that rip the fabric of time?
Or would it seal a rip that already exists?

Anyone's opinion on here or anywhere on the Internet is always shit on....not really news, but I'll bite and agree with the OP here that someone is probably just being an assface.
I'm sorry, what was that evan?
You know, repeatedly calling attention to the fact you have someone ignored is kinda petty. I was always kinda curious as to why you have a chunk of the board loathing you, but you don't exactly paint a great image for yourself.

Being totally honest, I read the entire OP and realized the entire ordeal was extremely petty. Then, when someone mentioned it was jollydwarf, I happened to look and confirm that. Previously, I had no idea who it was, probably because I was used to seeing that kid with the mic as his avatar. Goes to show how avatar's have become a replacement for usernames.

Point being, without any personal grudges, I judged the OP as a petty nerd prior to realizing who it was.
http://www.theonion.com/content/node/33272
I had that in mind reading the OP as well. Great minds and all that.

I think jmcc said it best when he told you to get outside, hombre. fuckin' seriously. Bloody near every honest review (even the "I liked it, but it has its faults, and here they are") I gave to a book on Amazon gets the sort of "3 out of EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD thought your review was helpful" treatment.

So what? It's new marketing, sweetheart, and no matter how many 3-star reviews of Raffi albums you give the world, you ain't stoppin' that tidal wave. If Abbie Hoffman couldn't do it, you sure as fuck can't.

EDIT: Kudos for the irony in your title, BTW.

Really, is feedback on a podcast review that important? I'm going to take a wild guess that I was able to correctly guess your username (wasn't too hard, since the OPM podcast only had five reviews and only one that matched your long-winded writing style), and that review had a 3 of 11 rating. Another one had a 2 of 24. It sounds like you're going to have a pretty long list if you decide to track down everybody who gives you negative feedback.
