Sony Delays PSP!

CAGiversary!
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) – The battle between Sony's PSP and Nintendo's Game Boy Advance, which was shaping up to be one of the biggest clashes of the upcoming holiday season, has been pushed to next year.

Sony has informed publishers, developers and retailers that while it still plans to launch its handheld gaming and entertainment device in Japan this holiday season, the PSP will not hit shelves in North America or Europe until calendar year 2005.

"The reason we pushed it out here is we wanted to be sure there's a reasonable amount of software titles to launch with hardware," said Teresa Weaver, a spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment.

The system will ship globally before the end of Sony's fiscal year (which ends in March 2005).

Comment: So if the Dual Screen Game Boy is a success, will we ever see the PSP? :?:

Very interesting turn of events, especially that sony is sponsoring some PSP development sessions at this year's Game Developer's Conference, which is less than 4 weeks away.

Isn't the PS3 scheduled for the end of 2005 or 2006? if so, Sony will be launching a lot of high priced hardware in a relatively short amount of time. that could come back to haunt them.

the dual screen game boy iz called nintendo ds and its not affiliated with gameboy. But the PSP will still kik its ass

If the PSP really ends up being as powerful as a DC with a screen biger than the GBASP, even if it doesn't do all Sony says it will, it will still be successful, IMO...

It may be successful. But, the new consoles are coming out in 2005 (supposedly). So, many of us will be saving our money to get a new Xbox 2 or Nintendo Cube 2 or whatever it will be called. But I think Sony is waiting until 2006 for their PS3 so it may be new consoles or a handheld device for some gamers.....

Actually they have said it is not the successor to the GBA. They have not said yet if it will play the Gameboy titles yet or not. My guess is it will and they have not confirmed this yet because the GBA SP is selling so well they do not want to slow down the sales.

I do not see how anyone could want a PSP personally. SCEE already said the scheme they have worked out is cheap royalties and making money on systems.

A handheld as powerful as the PS2 has to cost a lot(probably 299 or so). Even then, there are so many great GBA games that it would make it hard for me to make the switch

I love my SP but there really aren't that many "great" games for it. The ones I play the most are either NES/SNES games I played to death 10+ years ago or sequels to NES/SNES games I playesd to death 10+ years ago... Where are all the original titles??? If the PSP can offer some originality, I'll be first in line...

People don't get it. If a HANDHELD is priced higher than 100 dollars NOT many people will buy it!

No, you don't get it. There are many portable devices that are far above $100 that are successful. Case in point: any hard drive based MP3 player. All Sony needs to do is market the PSP as more than a game machine (which they will probably do).

I bet the PSP will be more sucessful than say, the N-Gage, but I don't think it dethrone Nintendo, especially now that it will give them more time to counter.

To be honest, I could see the delay coming because of sheer lack of details put forth by Sony. Also, they laid out these awesome specs and then "dumbed it down" which seemed like they didn't have a whole bunch of confidence that it would succeed.

I dont think the psp will be more then 199.99

Also did u guys se the Psp screenshot from lotr mordor GP in the new egm magazine?

The graphics looks awesome.

Are you serious? that was their April Fools Joke for the year.

Truthfully, I won't buy any handheld system more than $99.99. GBA SP price is my max limit in order to buy a handheld system. Besides, isn't high price has been the doomsday of all other handheld system?

yes. Thats why I can't see why everyone is so hyped for it.
That's bullshit, damn chincs just want it there first.
Do you even know what a "chink" is? You're referring the Japanese with a derogatory term for Chinese. Why are you even using a derogatory word anyway? Next time please leave narrow minded opinions like this off the board.

it didnt have anything to suggest it was a april fools joke.

looks real enough for me.
except for the time equaling 4-1-04
