"Sony Gives Gran Turismo HD Concept For Cmas"

And now for my quick review:

Totally kicks the @$$ out of the free weather and Opera browser I downloaded this week.

I was never a GT fan, or a sim racing fan in general until GT3. I felt right at home with this tech demo.

For a demo, it's pretty fleshed out options wise. I love that it lets you choose whether you want to output 1080i or 720p, the 7 or so wheel configs, even the timing of the "demonstrations". (clips when you don't move the controller) etc etc etc

1 track in both directions, and 10 cars.
Really wish there were a second track, or ability to play at night, but that's alright. The ranking feature really makes it worthwhile.

Other than Crackboy's weird replay... it's great incentive to get better and try to get your name on the top ten list.
I LOVE the fact that you can download their replay (didn't GT4 do this?) and see how they ran it, right down to their button presses and car settings. Gave me a few tips on my lap times, and I'm SOOO close to cracking the top ten with my Miata.

Visually, the game is the most beautiul racer I've seen yet.
Motorstorm is probably more thrilling, but this game is just so detailed and accurate.
I wish I had a 1080p set to fully experience it.
And Dolby Digital sound? Thanks!

All in all, a great, great great Christmas present from your friends at Sony.

F' you crackboy!

EDIT:

Forgot to mention Drift Mode which rates you your drifting ability with points rather than lap times.
I don't think a lot of people really play this yet, so my ranking is higher here.

No one has cracked 10,000 points with any of the cars as of yet... but on one of the "demonstration" clips it shows the rally Celica doing just that with ease. Man, perfect drifting...

Sony had better implement a fucking resume download feature sometime soon. I was at 97% and for some reason it just quit. It pisses me off, that now I have to start all over.

I'm not saying it's a bad demo,... but it's just that, a demo.
Yeah, it's better than a web browser... but the fact that you can play the Flash games makes it pretty cool.

I just don't like when asshats assault the other companies, because their preferred manufacturer isn't doing well, and then tosses the consumer a demo to shut them up, then they get big headed and start the "let's flame Nintendo and MS for not giving you Halo demos and Smash Bros.

I know that when GT, Halo3, and Smash Bros. hit... I'll be having a really awesome time :)

Merry Christmas Flamerfans

Yeah, that's why I bought my Wii, some shitty ass Flash games.

I downloaded it last night. It took about an hour or so. As for the game......eh, it's so-so. As others have said, it's a demo and nothing really all that deep. It's better than nothing, but it's not as if Sony is giving everyone a Christmas gift.

It's a demo of a game that has been cancelled.
I don't get to play many cancelled games.

Nice present indeed!

It's also a disturbingly good proof of concept for their microtransaction apocalypse model because, were they to release another track and a handful of cars for it, I'd plunk down $5-10 to get 'em.
There is an automatic online ranking system for the best times per vehicle. Big whoop, you say? Fine. The top 5 times for each car, however, are viewable as saved replays. So, when I see "CrackBoy's" time of 1:09 in the Subaru Cappucino, I want to see how in the world they managed that time. The console downloads a small file and begins to play CrackBoy's trip around the track almost instantly. A very cool feature that other games would greatly benefit from (across near every genre).
Other games have benefited from this feature. Project Gotham 2 had it three years ago.

It is great that they are using it here, but it is nothing revolutionary.

Edited to add:
Can you use the triggers for gas and break or only the face buttons?

GT4 did it as well.

And you can map the buttons to whatever you want.

I didn't buy my Wii for that either.... but I'm not the one talking shit. I mention it in defense of the offensive posters, bashing a company for not having GT4 demos.

Your defense is good though.... playing a canceled game?? Funny, I've played about 6, unreleased game demos on my 360, that will remain here in Japan, thanks to MS. So, while your argument is good, 1 cancelled demo is QUITE the present.. LOL!!!,... I'll just keep in mind that $ony had enough sense to cancel that mess.

Not only was their launch a turd, their handheld a peanut in the turd, and their half-assed classic remake schemes that everyone seems to love a joke, but their unquenchable thirst for power is even more evident with their proprietary media rackets. Wow... Memory Stick, MiniDisc, UMD, BluRay..... what an arsenal! Remade Ninja Gaiden, Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo,.... so many guaranteed hits, but NO NEW ORIGINAL games. Imagine that!

I did like playing my Gran Turismo 2 on Dreamcast though.... that sure made the system.

:)

Man this is one good demo, none the less Sony has a few problems with the whole download process. First off, i could not download the demo Wirelessly as my connection kept on droping (this does not happen on my 360 or Wii), wireless is slow as hell (again something that does not happen on the other two systems), when a download is dropped it restarts which is just horrible and finally we should be able to do something else while downloading things like on the 360 as i hate being forced to sit their watching my download bar fill up. Simple but very important things here but the GT demo was worth it.

You guys are sooo fucking annoying for bitching about getting a free game.
Sweet shit, it shows how desperate you people are to complain about the PS3. They did something right... and better then their competitors.
It's amazing that you can type, but somehow can't read. It says in the goddamned original post, that it's one track and 10 cars, with an option at 10 more - and it's all free.

Is it a new track or a recycled one from a previous GT game? I dunno that answer.

Hooray for free stuff, no matter the lack of depth. Sony could have a great online store if they could flesh it out a bit with content. Now if they'll announce Tekken: DR for PS3 download.
You're kinda pissy today. What's wrong?

Back on topic, is Gran Tourismo still even viable? Granted the level of customization is greater than almost all other racers, but its the same customization for each vehicle... Can we get to the next step already?

Haha oops!
I had no idea I was talking to a lame fanboy.

Never mind, it wouldn't matter what I say.

I'm not a fanboy... you just bashed them, because you wanted to bring fanboys out.

I own every system ever released, post Atari XE, minus GB Micro, and Sega Master System.

I'm a game fan, not a company fan... although some of them have better days then others. I was defending the other 2 companies who were bashed, because the posters made fanboy statements. Micro$oft has been doing online d/l's for a while,... and very well I might add. I was just contrasting,... not taking sides.

You have a bug up your ass. Read your post, chock full of attitude :)

I hope you have a good Christmas :)
merry merry

If any mods were merciful leaders, they would take this thread - like the disease-ridden mongrel dog that it is - and shoot it in the head to finally give it peace.

It's pretty amazing it derailed to the level it has, which is normally reserved for states of emergency.

Welcome to every thread in PS3 CAG Forum.

Thats what most of you guys like to turn it into.

Just got back to vegas, nice Christmas suprise from Sony. They really shouldve bundled it like this in a disc from the start like Nintendo did with wii sports. This game has lasted longer than Wii sports for me so far and is quite decent, though like they've said before, it's a whole lot of recycled assets. Good stuff though.

Hope it works with my logitech momoforce wheel though. I guess we'll see
There you go it is a free game, and it looks great. The best part being it is free.
Amen to that!
People say graphics dont matter and Wii is so much more fun than the PS3 or 360.

That picture explains it all.
Way to go, PS3 fanshits. Comparing a top tier, AAA game like Gran Turismo to a quick and dirty port of what was already a crappy racing title, which nobody expected anything from. (and even fewer were stupid enough to buy)

I'd take Excitetruck/Burnout/PGR3 over GT5 anyday. (unless they actually spend time on things like AI, damage modeling, updated controls, physical rather than just numerical upgrades, and decent online, and did things about how easy it is to win races by bumping off walls and opponnent cars, all things that haven't been touched since GT2)

GT has felt like a job I don't want to be doing since GT2.. And I was a HUGE fan of the first two Gran Turismo games. why doesn't anybody see that they are making the series prettier without changing the core bumpercars gameplay? It's really a good symbol of Sony as a whole.

Seriously why did you feel the need to post, why is it so hard for others to let people enjoy something. Or to have a thread go more than a few pages, with out pointless namecalling?

DarkNessBear's irrational correlation between GT5's fancy graphics and how much fun it must be drove me into a frenzy. These kids and their graphics. Apologies for your thread. I did keep it Gran Turismo related, if you notice.

Are you an idiot?
The picture is oozing with sarcasm.
And it's really only making fun of the Nintendo fanboys who think fancy things like AA and sharp textures are foul things.

It's not a serious comparison, just a quick laugh.

It certainly doesn't say to me, Wii sucks, PS3 rules.

I posted that picture on a Wii thread and we all got some laughs out of it.
Get a sense of humor.

If you go into a "frenzy" after reading message board postings, you need help. No joke.

Does anyone know if Sony is going to take the demo down anytime soon? I'm not in the country right now so I won't be able to download it until mid-January...
