valve announced a "surprise" a few days ago and this is verification as to what many have speculated it is, official HL2 deathmatch (with gravity gun as a mp weapon), as confirmed by the thread on steampowered.com started by a valve employee with a link to this picture. the thread already has like 30 pages on it...

thought i would share the love over here!!

You won't be able to. That'd make the gameplay unbalanced.
 
Wow.

"Soon" comes VERY soon, I just got done downloading it from Steam. It took 2 minutes, and it was 30mb. Steam is FAST.

Lots of problems being reported on the gamefaqs boards.. SteamForums down due to high traffic.. dl'ed HL2DM.. trying to play CS:Source and it's updating..

done updating.. seems to work fine for me.. *shrugs*

Wait! Error! "no disc inserted"

..oh

*puts in DVD*

*reloads CS:S*

..well, the thingy waiting for CS:S went away and it hasn't launched yet..

*double clicks again*

*prepares to play CS Source*

*Steam refuses to load it*

Aww, damn it. Oh well. Maybe it'll be fixed by morning.
 
If yours doesn't work, hit start, go to run.. put this in:

steam://validate/320

It re-validates your game files. Worked for me. Off to play HL2DM!!!!!

This totally justifies the purchase.

Anyways.. I got owned last night playing.

Yeah, that's my noobtastic idiocy speaking.

Anyway, this is the most fun I've ever had playing any sort of DM. This game has to be game of the year.

I ended up playing catch with a barrel w/ someone in the middle of a firefight. Totally sweet. I lauged so many times at the deaths I experienced and doled out. This is totally sweet. Shooting can be a pain though as some players tend to teleport from place to place at times.
 
If you see "teleporting", that's either lag or them respawning. Were you able to catch an object someone else threw at you? I wasn't able to do that, but it's so awesome how crafty you can be.. for example, I'll shoot six shots with the revolver, and instead of reloading, I'll jump, duck, hit G really quick to pull out the gravity gun, pick up an object, and either use it as a shield for a second or throw it. One person on there last night really, really amazed the hell out of me, I pulled out a gun and they pulled up a barrel, and right when I went to shoot, the barrel came up and blocked the shot, then they shot the barrel into me and killed me. I was like oh man.. GOTY.
 
Yeah, we were about 5 feet from each other and he first picked up the barrel. It was a tight room so I figured I'd stick with the gravity gun and catch it. He thought the same thing and we passed it back and forth four or five times until someone came from behind and emptied an SMG clip in my back. Party pooper.

Unfortunately, the server I joined had quite a few laggers. It was horrible being in the tight hallway upstairs and they'd appear back and forth and I couldn't get a bead on them. I just stayed downstairs so I could launch a file cabinet or two at people.

I did see something cool today. I don't know how they did it, but the character held the gun to their side w/ their palms facing up, gun facing the floor and they started shooting and they bounced up and down with the gun. Odd.

I might try that option for fast-weapon switching next time. What does that do exactly?
 
Which one are you Scorch? Madlude or Vigilante? All my friends can't run this game so I gotta find people to play against.
 
Oh man that was fucking AWESOME! I was holding an explosive barrel, ready to throw at this close guy, and a third guy shoots it, and we both go flying! It ruled!
 
i have to wait till summer for my new computer!!! ARGH!!! why can't this computer break? then I can jsut buy the computer sooner!!!

Is there specific damage points in this game? I emptied a whole SMG clip and then some at someone's upper body/head and he still didn't go down. On the other hand, a few shots with the magnum and down I went.

I should just stick to throwing toilets.

I was insane with the Magnum. I kept firing only one shot, and killing someone with every shot. Then I got hit with a sink.
