Spiderman 3 PC with $10 movie "Concession Cash:" $8.69 @ Best Buy

CAGiversary!
Circuit City is doing their usual tricks and offering the $30 Spiderman 3 (PC) for $9.99. This is like when they offered Half-Life 2 Episode 1 and SiN: Episodes Episode 1 Emergence for $7.99 only a couple weeks after release.

Well, I only price-matched at Best Buy because I had a gift card and not because I wanted the extra 10% of the difference ($1.30), but when I got it home I noticed that the UPC was different than the Circuit City one... BOTH of them (the sticker and the UPC beneath). The Best Buy one has "Bonus $10 Concession Cash!" printed on the front and a $10 check (yes, a real bankable check with routing number) in the middle of the wimpy four-page manual.

Here's how to get it for $10:

Get proof of Circuit City's price. A receipt or the weekly flyer/circular will do.
Buy it for $22.99 at Best Buy. Use Reward Zone if you have it.
Walk straight from the register to the customer service desk.
Initiate the 110% price-match policy (only for previous purchases) to knock off $14.30.

The check can only be spent with a Spiderman 3 ticket stub [on concessions]. Luckily, I kept my stub. :)

Is the PC version decent? I'm waiting for the 360 version to get a major price drop, but I might be swayed if this version plays... well.

Penny-Arcade's Mike and Jerry (Gabe and Tycho) say that it's not worthy of a Penny-Arcade reader, but the Penny-Arcade forum thread is torn. Many are saying that it's a decent game. Many complain that they can't play the game with all the (PS3) eye-candy on monster SLI 8800GTS systems (they should be happy it didn't get watered-down like Resident Evil 4 PC so it will be awesome on future PCs). Many more are saying that it sucks without having played it (basing their opinions on the reviews and the opinion of the people that want all the eye-candy).

I encourage PC developers to stop watering down their games on a platform that will always be able to support it and to stop overcharging for games, so $8.69 sounds right. :)

Me? I won't be installing it until I get my 7800GT SLI gaming rig set back up... For the last several months, I've been happy playing Prey, F.E.A.R., Condemned, etc on my 7800GS system instead. :)

Reviews say that PC version is worse then the console ones with many more gliches and non fun web swinging. (which i supposed to be the only good part of the game)

Is the $10 concession cash check some kind of movie ticket similar to the hollywood movie cash which you present to the box office to get your actual admission ticket?

AVOID this version at all costs! this is made by a different dev. you have been warned.

it is ported by a different team. Content wise it is same as X360. Now the PS2/Wii version is made by a different team

Sounds good, hopefully my BB has it in stock. I'll try it tomorrow. I'll take a free game and some cash back anytime for a little legwork.

atleast its not as bad as spiderman 2 which was nothing like the console versions..

i booted this up quickly this morning but didnt play much.. i was also shocked to see it did not run as well as i expected..

It's a real check with routing numbers and all, but it has restrictions like an expiration date and it states that it's only valid with a Spiderman 3 movie ticket stub.

It's supposedly only good for concessions (snacks, drinks), but if you know someone that works there, I'm sure they'd be willing to accept it for a ticket or something. They're getting the money either way. It isn't like a coupon that has to scan or anything.

I have Spiderman 2 for PC but I never loaded it. It's completely different from the console versions? Damn.

i never get the 10% diffrence at my local best buy...but oh well. I was going to wait for this one to drop to 10 bucks anyways before I bought it so all is good. CC dropped this sucker quick :)

Best Buy's policy is that one must buy the item first, then get a price-adjustment from customer service to get the extra 10% of the difference. It is a little annoying, but most of the time one can just go to customer service immediately after checking out (to avoid making a return trip. Occasionally as CSR will attempt to enforce an artificial waiting period for price adjustment, but that only happened to me once).

As for the punch in the groin being comment, I think people are being too harsh. I might be upset if I paid $20 or *gasp* $60 for this game, but it is decent fun for $10 or less, especially with the concession cash, and I'm playing with a laptop keyboard (I really need to find a cheap 360 wireless controller hub).
