Moisture under the plastic and the screen. You'll have to open it up and clean it properly. Using alcohol to clean the screen will result in this as well, as there isn't enough air for it to evaporate fully sometimes.

I don't think it's moisture for most people that have this problem. This happened with my PSP also, and seems to be a common problem looking around the web. It seems to have something to do with the screen itself becoming defective over time, due to temperature variance, weight, or some other factor, and is a big problem with PSP 2000's. I took mine apart and wasn't able to clean it, it seemed to be embedded in the screen itself, not the faceplate or outer surface of the screen. Had to get a replacement and put that in to fix it. Some people have suggested that letting the screen run for a while (as in, days), or possibly massaging the screen a little might help, but I can't comment on that. It seems to happen to a lot of people when they don't play them for a while, which was the case with mine, it sat around for 6-9 months.

Aye, I have the same problem with mine (2001 model). Pretty sure the only way to remedy it is to buy a new screen (since I bought mine used, and likely stolen, there was no way of getting sony to fix it.)

I've learned to live with it though, it doesn't show up too bad during gameplay.

either it's the screen or the faceplate. taking the faceplate off is very easy, but replacing the screen looks a little complicated. you can get replacement screens/faceplates on ebay. if you want to see tutorials there are a lot on youtube. just search psp 1000/2000 faceplate/screen tutorial.
