For those of us who started PC gaming (or even gaming in general) with StarCraft, or even simply remember the good times StarCraft brought us... the long awaited sequel has officially been announced as of May 19th.

Apparently, they are showing both CG and gameplay videos, so hopefully those will be posted up for the public soon enough. I don't know about you guys, but I've been looking forward to this day for nearly a decade.

Now, knowing Blizzard, the actual game may not hit retail until 2010 at the earliest!

Omg, has anyone watched the gameplay videos on youtube? I think the Protoss got even cheaper. The zealots had a charge ability and the dragoons have a shield...8 zealots attacked 10 siege tanks and took out 2, and 4 dragoons took out the last 8 siege tanks.

The mothership for the protoss has 3 abilities, time stop shield, earthcracker, and blackhole. I'm glad they can only have one, but omg, lol.

Hope they have as much love for the zerg and the terran. (I'm not a big fan of protoss). Cheers :)

Heres some gameplay footage:

Just imagine how badass the terran and zerg will have to be to balance out the gameplay. I wish they would hurry up and release so info about the other races.

I'm a little disappointed... I usually expect Blizzard to innovate, and expand on others ideas while making them better, but Starcraft 2 just looks like a step back for the genre and more like Starcraft.

There's been decent improvements in the world of RTS's that I hope Blizzard would use, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. Kind of upset Blizzard seems to just be taking the easy path that EA took with Command and Conquer 3 - more of the same, just prettier.

I hope when more details come out I eat my words, I really hope I do. I was hoping Starcraft 2 would bring RTS's to that next level, but it looks like it's sticking to the past, while others will innovate and push the boundaries of what an RTS can do (like Relic and Chris Taylor).

Warcraft 3 was groundbreaking with hero units, that pretty much pushed RTS's to a new level. World of Warcraft, well, that completed re-did how the MMORPG genre is made. I just hope when details come out, that Starcraft 2 has *something* that makes me want to say "Wow, this is something I never thought of before, RTS's are going to be awesome when people start using this!" rather than "Hey, a shinier Starcraft".

It does look pretty, though, and Blizzard hasn't let me down yet so I'll keep an eye out. But I mean, not even a new race? It's like Blizzard is scared to do much of any changing or else they will piss off their entire fanbase.

Although I usually agree with you about more of the same, StarCraft was such a perfect RTS it's hard to WANT to mess with it. And WoW was innovative either, all it did was make it more casual friendly.

Yeah, hero units, and WCIII in general, ruined the series for me. The cartoony fantasy was dialed up about 10 notches too high and the lore completely went to shit (a trend WoW's continued).

After reading the first batch of StarCraft II previews, I thought to myself, "Thank god Blizz isn't taking the WCIII route with this one."
