Welcome to the Steam deals thread V12, where we talk about just about everything except what games are on sale.
Please wipe your feet on the way in...

Summer Sale PSA: If you're new to Steam sales, be sure to check out both Enhanced Steam and Spoony's Official Guide to Steam Sales before you ask a question and/or spend more money than you'd care to say.

Before you ask, if a game is already a featured deal (daily/flash/community) that's the lowest it will go this sale. Feel free to buy without the worry it will get a better discount later on.

Stomping Land is Rust with dinosaurs, which is to say your biggest threat is still other players. I'm kind of tired of survival games that are more about surviving other players with more time on their hand than the environment itself. 7 Days to Die seems to do this better than others, and The Forest should do it well since it isn't even mp.
Here's my experience with The Forest and 7 Days to Die (1 death on The Forest vs. multiple quicker deaths on 7 Days to Die):

The Forest - Looks prettier, runs better, has semblance of a story/purpose outside of just spawn and survive (meaning the intro movie gives you background and there's sense of mystery/discovery in finding about your enemies, but no real story throughout the game). It has a in game manual/guide for crafting. Enemies are more aggressive in that they seek you out and want to kill or capture you and you actively have to hide/defend.

7 Days to Die - Looks a little rougher, doesn't run as well, no real story outside of zombie apocalypse - you have to survive. No guide (or maybe I didn't come across one) so figuring out what to do/how to do things is left up to you. Enemies are pretty aggressive once you engage them and pretty tough, but you do have the option to try to avoid them/stealth and sneak around since they are brain dead zombies.

You could own both since I think they scratch different itches and I think both will end up being better after they are finished. If you like the idea of being actively hunted, then The Forest would be better. If you want the ability to pick and choose when you engage the enemy (to a degree) then 7 Days to Survive is the game for you. They are both tense in different ways.

I think The Forest is getting co-op, but not a free for all type mode. If the graphics weren't so fancy I'd get it.

I enjoyed Rust (got lucky and found some nice people right away) until the server had to wipe for an update. Now I'm waiting for full version. I prefer playing with friends over getting murdered at spawn too.

I don't think the 5Ghz on air warrants the price difference, the current Haswell processors still deliver good value for money and I am sure it can handle any games you throw at it.
I'm curmudgeonly holding out on my Phenom II X3 720 BE... Sandy Bridge wasn't needed at the time and nothing since has been real progress over Sandy Bridge. ...Even with the additional delays it looks like I'm holding out for Skylake. I miss the days when this year's mid-range was last year's high end.

So it's official.. Steam summer sale starts on June 19th according to Paysafecard.

https://www.paysafecard.com/en-gb/lp-promotions/steam-summersales/
I'm terribly disappointed. I was looking forward to another month of bickering & whining about when the steam sale is going to be.

There's still a card buying line behind me Vince. Will you be unfolding your mobile sales table any time soon or should I change out of this uncomfortable business casual dress and put my sweats back on?
Well, dresses are much cooler in summer....

Guess last year's mid-late July date didn't work out for them as well as hoped. Especially since everyone else held their sales first.

Of course, everyone's sales this year are ass so I suppose it doesn't matter much either way.
I have no idea what they were thinking when they started pushing back the summer sale so late... that's a month before many schools start back up... so last minute vacations / time to do summer reading/homework / back to skool carp.

They really should hold it mid/late June when kids are getting out of school.

Reported to Microsoft.

Apparently my Steam 10 yr anniversary happened on the 8th. I guess I can't be mad about Steam not getting me anything since I didn't get it anything either.

Anybody pulling a fakecag and buying something regardless of discount? I may do that on The Forest as a birthday gift to myself.

Don't worry, it will be on sale again in the Summer sale, probably as a Daily, Flash, and Community Vote.
Didja forget, or were you going soft on the boy?

2nd/3rd Flash repeat

2nd Community Vote Win

No key, no vote. It's how greenlight works. If I voted for that without getting key for my vote, how would all the other games that struck that Faustian bargain feel?
Now I feel dirty for posting that here. The feel is even worse now, because I realized that I would buy ADoM at full price on its Steam release. #fakeCAG

I'm just being hard on what greenlight has become. There's no modicum of quality control, so it's simply a charade.

That said, many key-for-vote games delivered recently have been trashed by CAGs... and yet quality stuff like nKPro still has to go through greenlight.

Very tempted on Diablo 3. Is Reaper of Souls pretty much required for online play now?
Not sure RoS is required, but it does add a lot to do after completing the story more. If you're at all unsure, get D3 on sale and see if you like it. Get RoS later (on sale of course).

I play with a handful of CAGs semi-regularly and we all have ROS. it's a good time and a good bunch of people to group up with.

GTAV Steam page is up, which may interest some of you.
I'll be ready to cry, when the PC system requirements drop. ;)

EDIT:

Gamestop Blizzard sale (Boxed Copies)

Shipping is $3.50 or free in-store pickup

I didn't post Mist of Pandara being $20, since that's the same price as it's currently being offered in digital flavor at Blizzard's online store: Mist of Pandaria $20

Reaper of Souls not on sale.
If only D3: RoS (PC) was $20 or less...

Thanks! I'm not unsure about D3 as I played the previous games to no end. I'm just being cheap! I kinda figured that by now RoS might be what everyone was playing, making it mandatory for gaming with friends. It'll probably be a decade before it gets much cheaper (barring some kind of MS/Toys R Us firesale).

I'm sorry but vague terms of service language or not you really can't sit there with a straight face and tell me that you honestly think deleting and re-buying a free app in order to get bonus offer coins multiple times is not an abuse of the system and was as Amazon intended. Why don't you PM Tony and ask him if it was meant that people could delete and re-buy an app to get bonus coins an infinite number of times and if Amazon is okay with that? Right.

Look, most of us here have done some shady grey area we knew it was wrong shit to varying degrees at one point or other to save some money on games and as I've said I don't really care. But splitting hairs over fine print semantics on stuff that we regardless all know we're not supposed to be doing anyway doesn't make you morally superior. People in glass houses...

He doesn't. He knows it's wrong he just can't admit it because ZOMG can't lose an argument on the internet!
There's no way to argue around "One per customer per app" - you might not technically be violating Amazon's TOS when you do that, but you are clearly violating the Promotion's TOS because you are then getting more than one promotion per customer per app. It's the same thing, cheating the system. You can't defend this and try to argue against the Playfire thing. They are the same thing. No one's judging you, just pointing out you are being hypocritical, which you are. It doesn't matter how you look at it or justify it, it's still the same thing.

Nope, and that's why I haven't been saying it isn't a shady grey way to use the system. Everyone here (who likes to argue, including you, Fox, and my fanboy haters Drabe and Brut) must have an awful level or reading comprehension, because you all conveniently ignore the point of everything I say and simply focus on the part that you can say "OMG ur wrong" about. It's called context, look it up.

Is deleting and rebuying an app for coins on Amazon the way the system was meant to be used? Absolutely not. Is it a grey, shady area that may receive action against your account on Amazon's part? Yes, it is. Is it clearly against the ToS? No, it's not, but it may vaguely be forbidden under under a few clauses that could refer to it in a roundabout way.

Nowhere have I sat down and said "Exploiting Amazon coins is fine, and SAMming Playfire rewards is wrong." yet here you guys are acting like I have. I'm really sick of this nonsense where everyone twists my words just so they can "prove me wrong". Honestly, do you people have better things to do? Apparently not.

Since somehow my dissertations of explanation have flown right over your heads all this time. Let's outline things again, shall we? Bullet points and all!

  • I don't believe SAMming Playfire rewards is "wrong". I do believe it's risky because it's against the ToS (can get you banned), and I do believe continued practice of doing so holds a slight chance of getting the system shut down once the beta period ends, so people who do so annoy me a bit (but in the end it's there choice and I don't care too much).
  • I do believe that exploiting Amazon coins is in a grey area, as opposed to being clearly against the ToS (like SAMming is). I don't believe one to be more "moral" than the other.
  • As I've explained a thousand times, I don't care about the decided "morality" of any of these things. I care about 1. The possibility of getting banned, and 2. Odds of the system being exploited being shut down.

Moving on, if anyone thinks Amazon would shut down the coins program over a very few handful of glitches that allowed some people to get extra coins, they're delusional. I know, Motoki would just as easily say that I'm delusional over thinking SAMmers may ruin the Playfire rewards system, but it's a new system in beta, and depending on how the beta goes, they will adapt accordingly once it's out of beta. Amazon is a massive corporation who has only had a few glitches slip through. I'm not aware of anyone being able to do it an "infinite amount of times", Motoki. Maybe that was happening for the GTA glitch? From what I heard, it was fixed pretty fast. The one time I did it was out of curiosity with the free apps, and I felt a little paranoid afterwards. People were doing it with the free apps each day (if that was working, because you couldn't just sit there and do it over and over again), and I wasn't. No, not because of some sense of moral justice, but because I don't want my Amazon account punished. I probably won't be doing it again, because of that "irrational fear" you like to talk about.

But again, I'm not "defending" anything and playing up the other as some crime against humanity like you guys seem to suggest. I was honestly having a civil conversation about it with Xanchui, because I was curious what he saw and what he was getting out of the ToS, and then Drabe jumped in with his snarky argumentative comments towards me. What did I do? I slung them back, because I'm sick of the guy. Ever since he got banned from Playfire along with others, he's been an asshole to me, which is a little silly because we used to talk all the time and were cool with each other. If he's insistent that I was the one who reported on him, so be it. I wasn't, and he can continue in his stubborn little crusade against me, full of repetitive jokes and snarky comments.

Honestly, I'm sick of this nonsense. I don't care about being "right on the internet", nor am I being hypocritical. I AM tired of the repeated claims against me because most of you are butthurt about getting banned. I didn't even start this stupid argument.

If the graphics weren't so fancy I'd get it.

If you want to play with the rest of us D3 addicts fans you'll need/want RoS. IIRC it's been as low as $30 in some Target deal. I would care to guess when it'll next hit $30. It's getting very active support, with new features coming soon (tiered rifts & ladders).

Gamestop Blizzard sale (Boxed Copies)

Diablo 3 $20(PC)

Reaper of Souls not on sale.
Target has Reaper of Souls on sale this week.

More specifically, you can save $15 on any game (PC included) $39.99 or higher with the purchase of a $1 reservation card for a future title. That brings Reaper of Souls down to $26 (before taxes) and, if you pick up the reserved game, you'll also get a $5 Target gift card.

And through all that, you still call a blatant violation of the Coins program Terms of Service (1 offer per user per app) a "grey" area. It's not a grey area. It's a clear violation of the ToS. It would just lend a tiny bit of credibility to any argument you might be trying to make if you could just admit you are violating the Coins program ToS instead of ignoring that altogether. It was quoted for you and you keep ignoring it.

I don't care either way what people do, but you're the one who became the Playfire White Knight so you should expect to be criticized about it when you're only doing it for selfish reasons. At least the people who morally object to exploiting Playfire do so from a noble place and aren't hypocritical. That's why no one says anything to them. Because we respect them.

I don't care about being right. I DO care about this constantly resurfacing shitstorm that I do not bring up myself. Excuse me for trying to be thorough in explaining myself so this nonsense can be put to bed.

But that's a silly notion, because you'd rather for it to continue so that it can fuel your snarky comments and broken record jokes.

So I was deciding whether to start up D3 or TSW. Was going to pick TSW and then saw the interesting control scheme. Seems like a bit of a learning curve. D3 it is.
If you're going to learn TSW - know that left-mouse always interacts...and this cannot be changed via keymappings.

WTF? Most of us would put an action there on left-mouse - I.e. attack and/or shoot.

So, make sure your most used hot-key on a place very CLOSE to you - and put it some hot-key you're going to use A LOT.

For me - Right Control is that key for me, since I move via Up-Down-Left-Right cursor keys.

I've always heavily used this key, no matter what game I play - and put very important stuff there.

Also, if you're going to be doing any sort character that'll do lots of aiming for say tossing projectile/firing off magic and/or using any kind of guns - put Toggle Target Mode somewhere nearby and important for you. That mode switches b/t cursor mode and mouse-look mode. The cursor mode feels like WoW mode (i.e. camera locked behind you and where you move your cursor to attack and click-and-point to attack); while mouse-look mode is good for aiming + shooting (this is common in third-person shooter for aiming - especially at specific body parts - on enemies when shooting things).

For me - it's important when shooting to switch to mouse-look mode; and looking at objects to switch to cursor mode.

For me - this key's on MIDDLE MOUSE.

Where does it say "one offer per user per app"? Because all I'm seeing is "one user per app". If it does indeed say one user per offer, I'll completely agree. When the discussion about the Amazon coins ToS came up, regardless of what you think, I was honestly curious about whether it is clearly against the ToS. So far, I haven't seen anything that clearly says that. Never was I trying to argue about that or say it was wrong or right, I was looking for the truth of the matter.

And no, I haven't done anything for selfish reasons. I'm not the one who blows this whole thing out of proportion time and again (no, a long post =/= blowing something out of proportion), nor have I been hypocritical. I explained myself quite clearly and you've glossed over and ignored most of it, so there's not much else for me to say. You do this fairly often and I'm not surprised a bit.

It's not 75% off, but you won't likely do better for a long time. Go for it! We'll see you on Battle Net. Join the CAG clan!

Is there even anything worth reserving and/or pre-ordering?
