Steam Gamercards: Because Everyone Else Has Them

Charron

CAGiversary!
Guess what three days of boredom and the prevalence of unofficial gamercards for the Wii and PS3 get you? My attempt at creating the same for Steam games. Can't say I did it for any particular reason, other than to say I did it. Oh, and so I can say I've contributed something to the community.

EDIT: 9-game version is becoming the official one.

Font is Tohoma Bold, size 18 for the nick and 10 for the stats. If you want to make your own, the .psd files are here. Here's the full alphabetical gallery of the game icons. Games, mods, and groups are 32x32, user icons are 64x64. If you can do a better icon for any of the games, feel free! Many of mine are sub-par.

When I finally learn how, these will be on a site with dynamic generation. At that point we can commence awesome.

More input is always appreciated.

I like it. If you change anything, DON"t change the colors. They are really nice and I'm a big fan of subdued greys. I love the steam greys and layout. Not so much a fan of the program though ;P

The only thing I think would make it look nicer is maybe a bit more rounded corners. Kind of bubbley looking if you can understand what I'm thinking. The hard corners make it look like a sticker and less like a badge.
Hopefully you understand what Im trying to get across.

If you want a better place to host stuff, have you tried skydrive? I dont know if its any better then rapidshare, but its an alternative.

Rounded corners are on the to-do list, just have to decide which corners to round and figure out how best to do it. All of the colors are straight from Steam itself, even the stripe pattern in the header (though the gradiant is mine). I'll look into skydrive, dunno if it'll be any better or worse.

Glad I'm not getting instantly flamed for the idea. :)

Great Idea! As far as I'm concerned steam only needs two things to be sucessfull.

A gamercard or XFIRE like thing.
And a built in mp3 player in source games.

also don't forget mods in the game pictures.

You also should find a place for groups( 1 or 2 should be fine)

Is there anyway to leach off of your steam page when it come to pictures.

like this....

we just need to figure out how to imbed the page text into an image generator.

Embedding the text should (I repeat, I don't know PHP) be a case of string matching. I'd probably do the games the same way, but with backups in case, like me, you don't play a whole lot (those are my actual Steam stats by the way, though I picked games at random). For groups, I'm going to nudge the stats to the right a little and allow a column of three 16x16 icons on the left. That'll take care of the clan part too.

And mods, I'm only going to do those that are listed within Steam. Otherwise, it becomes too large of a project to try and get every one in.

Also, were you going for something a little more like this?

Great Idea! :bouncy:

But getting a way for the stats to ne embeded would be awsome.

Great job on the colour scheme; it dosn't clash with the cag forum's.

I've been doing some fiddling, got the mod database set up, but I don't want to release a new template until I get rounded corners looking right. Any graphic design people have tips there?

Also, next release of the template will be accompanied by at least one other template, for those without groups. Yea, it'd just be an edit on the old one, but I may also start dabbling in other layouts or color schemes.

Made a few more, they're adding new games today apparently.

Also, first attempt at rounded corners. Too subtle?

Thought so. :whistle2:# Anyone have suggestions, then?

(Aside, put the gamer icon gallery in the first post.)

I'd use one if Steam had more stats than just play time.. I'm not really fond of announcing to the world how much of a loser I am because I've played Counter-Strike for 20 hours in a week. :whistle2:(

Well, unfortunately, I can't pluck more stats... how about one with more focus on the games and less on the stats?

9gamedemo.png

Of course, you could put groups in some of those game/mod slots.

That looks good.

Thanks. Here's the template so you can do your own:

If anyone wants one made, just PM me your community page and tell me what games to use and what user icon you want.

Bumping, updated the games and mod lists. Am I just humoring myself at this point, or are there still people who care? >_>

OH ya just to mention, I linked this thread in the CAG Steam Community page for those whom might be intrested.

Thanks a lot on the work you did for the gamecards Charron. :)

I havn't really been that much on steam lately so I havn't really botherd to work on my card for it :|

I still care. Are you just advertising this template on CAG? Because I'm sure some people would just love the template.

Well, here and on The Specialists forums. I'm yet to go wider with it because I don't really feel it's "done". Even though, yea it's fully functional and people can make their own, it feels like something's still missing.

Speaking of, I was fiddling around and made this template, based on the Ice theme. Tried a few gradient tricks. Am I right in assuming the 9-slot version is preferred over the original 5-slot?

Not sure if I want the nick in front of or behind the gradient. If we keep it behind, the original .xcf or a .psd would be needed to make your own.

Added Peggle Extreme:

They seem to have gotten rid of Ancient Wars: Sparta. I have an icon for it but it's not on Steam anymore. Any other games go missing?

I don't care if it's "unofficial" and isn't listed on Steam, it's got a lot of attention and their logo was really easy to grab.

No prob!

Saw a Sherlock Holmes game was added, so I whipped this together real quick:

I'll probably work on more cards tonight. I'll also take mod icon requests if anyone wants 'em.

Lastly, anyone know where I can start looking for some image generation info? We're about to the point where these could be made dynamically.

Bumping, having added icons for Loki, Mystery PI, and the other new games. But if nobody cares anymore I'll just let this die off.
Rise from your grave!

Sorry I've been so lackluster about templates. Did whip up an icon for Ducati:

Also, .psds are available. Let me know if there's any problems with the site.
ALERT: Problems with the site.

:(

Intresting...

thanks for the heads up!

Charron, you should contact those guys on steamcard.com. I'm sure they would love to use the icons you've made! :)
Although I am not sure how they handle the process or they just directly use icons from valve's pages...

I suspect they use icons straight from the SteamCommunity, but in my experience that leaves out a lot of third-party games. So, I offered mine anyway. Hopefully these guys are cool and are willing to have my help. Instead of being total jerks and stealing all the work. (Seen that happen before.)
