I just ordered an Alienware Steam Machine (i5, Geforce 750 Ti level of graphics performance, 8GB RAM).
Some questions still buzz in my mind such as, am I paying too much at $650 before tax and shipping?
Will Valve be able to work with developers/publishers for an adequate supply of games on SteamOS?
And sadly, I may have to sell my XBox One to afford this. Not sure yet. The final question is, will The Witcher 3 work much better on this machine than it does XBox One?
I can still cancel the preorder, but I would need adequate reason to, which I don't have right now.
Also, there is a rival Steam Machine for preorder, the Syber Vapor with SteamOS. For a teensy bit less money, I can get the following on it:
Core i3
GTX 960 graphics card
4GB RAM
It probably has a much faster hard drive than the Alienware. On the other hand, the Syber Vapors don't get as much praise in reviews as the Alienware consoles. It's 3 out of 5 stars instead of 4 out of 5 in Amazon customer reviews, with people citing things going wrong with the Sybers.
