Cool, I'll most likely get it. Your avatar is also cool btw Mr. OP, I'm almost done watching that. If only Netflix would send me the last fucking disc already..... It's only a click away but yet I torture myself. :'(

Dear Lord, this Gold pack just released for $40! AND NOW IT'S TEN!! God I love amazing sales and games like this. In for one. =]

Was thinking of getting the Gold pack, but I'm not sure I'd care for the original versions. Buying the 1st and 2nd Encounters separately works out to a lil less than $9.

buy the double pack it's $7.50

I guess the only reason to buy Gold over that is if you want the mods only available on the originals.

Also, thanks USB Cable, It's one of my all time favorites.

Can anybody body elaborate on the save system of the HD versions when playing co-op? As in, I heard you couldn't save your progress or something along those lines, where as in the originals you could. Thanks.

Alrighty, looks like I will be organizing two 4-packs for this! When split 4 ways it is $6.55 for HD First Encounter and HD Second Encounter. Very nice.

Sweet, thanks! Sorry I didn't see that part of your original post. Was too excited to hear that SS was on sale this weekend. Downloaded the demo for the 1st Encounter to see how well it would run on my system and found that it wasn't too shabby. I'm not really into mods and I'm pretty sure I have the discs for the original versions lying around here somewhere, so I guess I'm going to purchase the double pack.

Bought the Gold pack and gifted the two HD version as I already own them.

That's about $50 in Croteam's pockets now between the pre-purchasing of the HD editions and now this...I'm ready for SS3 now ya jerks! (and 2 on Steam)

Can anyone else elaborate/comment on any reason besides mods and/or the possible co-op save issue in the HD versions to own the classic versions?

I already purchased Gold for nostalgia but I'm curious in the differences and why people still seem to want the originals.
Wow Steam is lagging bad on my end, still not able to complete this transaction. C'mon Valve!
I had that problem too about an hour ago but then they still mailed me my confirmation and my library had the games.

That's my reason for getting Gold instead of the double pack.

Seriously Double for me. I own the originals on disc (and SS2), but I decided I don't need the originals if I'm getting the HD ones. I almost got them for nostalgia or for increasing my library's size (the collector's instinct in me), but why waste $2.50 that can be put toward another $7-10 deal on Steam another day, right?

If anyone jumps on the Second Encounter 4 pack let me know.
I got the first one awhile back, and have been thinking of the grabbing the second.
I keep trying to add the gold pack but it keeps saying that 'Sorry, we couldn't add your item!'

Anyone know what is up with this..?
I think Steam's servers are on the fritz right now. My steam client is open but it says "no connection" on the bottom. These are becoming more frequent...

Thanks OP! Awesome price for an awesome game. I just bought a bunch for everyone here at the studio to blow off some serious steam while we're wrapping up Rock of the Dead.

Anyone else getting issues when trying to send as a gift? I get a "Sorry, there was a problem sending a gift to..." message every time.

EDIT - Looks like the gifting feature is working now. Now time to blow some headless dude's....um....arms off!

Hm, mine says that at the bottom too now that I look at it. Weird... I guess I will just try later tonight.

Either way thanks for the heads up OP, I was just about to buy the XBLA version... which sadly I probably still will (Gotta Support the Sam!)

wedge119, headpiece747, Anhmeister pm'd regarding the 4 pack for pt2 if either of those two fall through I'll pm the next interested person.

Thanks OP! I think I'm going to get the Gold Pack since I can gift the 1st HD that I got awhile ago.

I know quite a few people, myself included, who have gone through some major performance woes regarding the HD versions. Everything from driver conflicts to general framerate hitches to the save issues you mentioned.

I still enjoy the HD versions madly but the classic ones run like butter compared to the new ones simply due to the level of hardware most people have these days.

For several months the initial title screens would chug like mad on my laptop while the games themselves would run just fine. It's a lot of anecdotal your mileage may vary type stuff but it's enough to warrant wanting that old relative simplicity of the classic versions for me.

Simply put; sometimes the HD versions run like a full-on multiplayer dream and sometimes they are a nightmare to even get running at all. With the classic ones I simply edited an *.ini file to get my widescreen resolutions and FOV correct and away I went full-blast just like the old days.

I'm sure it's mainly for nostalgia and a sense of owning the "complete" pack, but they do list a handful of unique features on the store page:

SERIOUS SAM CLASSIC VERSION FEATURES
 • 4-Player Split Screen – Fully supported in all game modes, in both LAN play and online!
 • LAN Support – Play multiplayer in your local network!
 • Scorematch Mode – Play versus mode for scores!
 • Multiple Gravity – Experience several gravities in one room or fight with enemies which are ambushing you from the ceiling, while you jump up to confront them!
 • Serious Tools – Includes tools used to create the game, Serious Editor and Serious Modeler, so gamers can create their own levels!
 • Runs on both old and new PCs – Can be played on most current and older PC video cards (DirectX 7 or OpenGL compliant 3D accelerator), processors (minimum AMD K6-3 400MHz, Pentium II or Celeron-A 300MHz) and systems (Windows 95 OSR2, 98, 98SE, ME, NT with SP4, 2000, XP, Vista, 7)!
The modding/custom levels support and LAN support look like the biggies to me. I'm not sure you'd want to be running anything through Steam if you were trying to get it to work on older hardware, though.

in for 2nd encounter. Surprised they can justify a $15 price tag for the XBLA version when like a vast majority of features are PC exclusive...

If you have an extra slot for part 1 of the HD version PM me. I'm interested and can pay immediately.
