Strategy For Avoiding A TOASTED PS3?

Sean Price

CAGiversary!
I have the Metal Gear Solid PS3 bundle 80gb came with Metal Gear game, I believe it was the last of the backwards compatible one's..

Left it on all day, just playing the Lego Move trailer on Loop.. long story short, it was my babies babysitter, kept them occupied!!

After about 8hours of this, fired up Farcy 3, within 5mins it shut down.. I was breaking up a fight between the 3yr old and the 1yr old.. so didn't think much of it..  Walked over to it, turned it back on. Fired up Farcry 3, AGAIN with in 5mins, SHUTS OFF..

FEARING the worst, I immediately SHUT IT OFF(pwer switch on back of ps3) and walked away...

THAT WAS 2 MONTHs AGO!!!

FarCry 3 calls to me!!  NOT to mention my data on there!!

Here is my game plan..  What do yall think?

1. vacuum the crap out of it and blow air thru it(without taking it apart)

2. Turning it on(with a personal fan blowing on it)

3. If #3 above is good, IMMEDIATELY doing a data backup.

4. Once backup complete, lay that b*tch to REST..

5. Throw backup on the ALMOST new 500gb GTA V bundle I copped for $185 the other day off Craigs..

6. REJOICE in the bliss that is Farcry 3!!!

Let me know if may game plan seems solid or if not and if I should do something else?

ULTIMATE goal is NOT to save my ps3 but to SAVE my data on my ps3!!!

I would just copy your saves and not do a full backup. It's not uncommon for a full backup to take 10+ hours and I doubt it would last that long.

WAIT, Wait. so ALL i have to do is my copy my game saves?   Then I use a completely new ps3 and using that game save I will be playing Far Cry 3 at the same exact point as my dying ps3 ??

NO way, that sounds too easy!!

Directions?  I tried googling but it just lead me to crazy sights where people were posting COMPLETED Game saves with all treasures completed, or half the idols found or all guns unlocked..

P.S. 6months ago, I backed up my entire 80gb ps3, swapped in a 320GB hard Drive.. and haven't really played anythign else except Far Cry 3.. the back up probably has me at 40hours.. WHere as currently I am at 75hours.. so really, REALLY all I care about is NOT having to repeat those 35 hours in Far Cry 3!!!
Some games don't allow you to copy game saves - the Souls games are one that come to mind - but a good amount do. I did the flashdrive method when I sold a system a couple years ago. It seems Far Cry 3 does allow it.

If you already have a USB flashdrive, put it in a USB port, go to your saved game data folder, and copy to device whatever files you want to transfer. Put the drive in the new system, and copy your files from the drive to the saved game data folder.
