Stubbs the Zombie in "Rebel Without a Pulse"

Will be an absolutely amazing game that releases at the wrong time and will drop like a rock, like Beyond Good & Evil.

it looks good in theory, as long as the gameplay isnt repetitive and boring, ill pick it up whenever i get an xbox

I was under the impression Stubbs wasn't coming out until the 18th of Oct- cool concept and soundtrack so I'd be all over it aside from the fact 5 or 6 awesome games drop that same day.

It looks like a pretty fun little game, like scorch said though, wrong place at the wrong time...well mostly the wrong time part.

October is a hella-sweet month for new releases. I, for one, have been anxiously awaiting Stubbs. I will be getting it, but not for a few months now (until a price drop).

I'm looking forward to it. That FarCry and SOCOM 3... and i just bought Ninja Gaiden Black, Hulk, and Capcom Classics! Damn i'm gonna be broke.

Yeah, I'll be getting this but probably not until it drops. It's high on my want list, but I have too much to play. It sounds very cool though. I agree with Scorch too....I think this one will drop fast.

This game has many of my favorite things in it: zombies, the 1950s, a brown suit, prison, jet packs and the list goes on and on.

That's the thing- when too numerous must-have games drop all at once, you have to use a certain science to figure which will drop and which won't and anticipate which will have deals a few weeks after release... sort of goes with the cheapass territory, I guess.

Like I figure I can wait months on Stubbs, a few weeks or so on The Warriors, hold off as long as possible on Shadow of the Colossus and satisfy my new game with Half Life 2 on the 18th if it actually shows up.

I was looking at an Xbox 360 magazine. Appparently there are tons of Zombie games coming out for that system. Also factor in George Romero's Land of the Dead for the Xbox. The latter is trying to find a new distributor.

Land of the Dead is looking for a new distributor? or City of the Dead looking for one?

As far as I know, Land of the Dead is being released by Groove Games in a couple of weeks while City of the Dead is...well...dead. City of the Dead had promise, while Land of the dead...based on the demo...seems akward.

My GameCrazy just got the guide in today. The game looks great. The paper in the strategy guide was kinda weird feeling, though. Looked great, talked about how you can use any gun in the game by putting Stubbs hand on their head and controlling them or something.. and that you could take off his head and use it as a bowling ball.. it just looks like a blast.

Speaking of blasts, Stubbs can do atomic farts. Can't wait.

Shipped today (17th). In stores tomorrow!

Might get this, too:

Stubbs got a great reviews at 1up.com

Stubbs review 1up

I am picking this up at buy2get1 toysrus.

BTW the demo for Land of the Dead (on newest OXM) is horrible and will need to be fixed a great deal to even make it a decent title. Very bad frame rate and the graphics really were not that impressive.

I have to get Stubbs tomorrow, so I'll have to pass on getting it during the buy two get one free sale.

I'm probably going to get Battlefield 2, Call of Cthulhu and something else during that sale. Maybe Blitz, depending on reviews.
Damnit they pushed back the mac version WTF!
The ST looks pretty bitchin' though
Yeah. There are some bands on there I don't like too much, but there are some I like. Also, the entire album is comprised of '50s covers, which is pretty cool.

I downloaded it a little while ago. I'll listen to it when I get home from work.

I forgot all about this title. Gameplay looks great and can't wait to try out that co-op mode. Prob will pick it up Wednesday along w/ the GTA Xbox bundle.

Oh, and the cover story is KOTOR'S Bioware 's new 360 game Mass Effect.

Here's something mildly interesting: there was an ad for TMNT 3, and you can unlock Turtles in Time (IMHO the best TMNT game ever, even though I haven't played the XBOX games).

The first boss battle is a fucking riot.

There's also a White Zombie reference in the mall. :D

i read current bands are redoing old songs to keep the 1950's fell while modernizing the soundtrack. and on that list of bands is Cake!!! my favorite band. definitely the game, if not thet soundtrack too. but on the cheap of course.
Incredible game.

Not a title for everyone, though. ;o
Can you give some more details about the game and explain why it's a title not for everyone. Didn't get to go to GS to pick it up today and now I am having second thoughts.

Well, from what I've played so for (3 - 4 hours), it's really fun. The style of the game is hysterical, as is the comedy itself.

Me, I like zombies. I like the '50s. I like offbeat humor. And this game is packed with it. This may turn people off who are expecting to play a horror game or reverse-Resident Evil.

There's enough variation in gameplay to keep it fresh -- vehicles, zombie army, possessing people, etc. But the gameplay is, for the most part, fairly slow (as you are a zombie). That may turn people off who are expecting an over-the-top action title. There is some serious action at times, but far and few. Whether that's bad is up to whomever is playing it.

The game, so far, seems a little on the short side. From the chapter index, it seems as though I only have two or three to go. However, I'm playing it on the default difficulty (normal), and it's pretty hard. I can't imagine it on hard or hardest. This may have some replay value in that regard, along with the co-op.

Me, I give this title a 9 or a little under. This game seems to be an acquired taste.

Thanks Brak. :) If my GS has any copies I will prob snag one since it seems to be a great game and Gamestop.com is already back-ordered according to the site.

No problem. Just don't make a fake video game trading deal with me if you don't like it, in order to acquire my home address for any malicious purposes. ;o

Here's the GamePro review. 3.5 out of 5.

Here's the 1up.com review. 9.0.

I'm sure once all the reviews are up, you'll see a very mixed set of numbers and ratings. Most likely because of the following, and I'll quote 1up:

Regardless, Stubbs is one of those rare games that manages to not only be creative and challenge many of the game industry norms, but do so within the confines of an extremely entertaining and polished game. The Xbox game market may be quiet these days, but don't let that mislead you from picking up one of the best games it's seen in quite some time.

Nice, I just opened up my copy of Stubbs and there is a $2 rebate inside for the soundtrack. That was definitely a nice surprise since I'm planning on buying the soundtrack today anyway.

Well, I played about 3.5 hours of co-op Stubbs yesterday, and I have to say that I am a little disappointed in the game. Normal mode offers absolutely no challenge what-so-ever, and we have already completed 9 out of the 12 levels. I'm guessing we are going to be finishing this game in about 5 hours total. Now, I'll probably go back and play through single player again on a harder difficulty, but this game could have been a lot better.

There is little to no storyline in the game and it's often not clear what you are supposed to be doing early in the game. It's very clear that this game was built on the Halo engine (the menus and profiles are even set up the same), so the game controls and plays well. I'm still satisfied with my purchase because I ended up getting the game for $10 after GameRush employees somehow managed to take $40 off of my pre-order instead of $20. I just have this feeling in my gut that this game could have been something much greater than what the final product actually is.

The game is extremely linear, much like Halo, but you don't have the action or sense of exploring that some of the levels of Halo gave you. The majority of your combat is melee combat which is just Stubbs swinging his arms when you press the right trigger. It's not the most intriguing combat system for a third-person game. The game is fun when you possess humans that have weapons and you can really appreciate the shooting controls. I honestly think they could have made a better game just making it a straight out third-person shooter.

I really think this game could have been helped out by some sort of multiplayer as well. It would have been fun to play as competing sets of zombies and would have added a lot more replay value to the game. They could have even had a version where one person plays as the humans and the other plays as the zombies.

I may continue to add to this post because I just had really high hopes for this game and I keep thinking about how they could have made it better.
I'm going to try to rent this, THAW and Blitz today.
Thanks for reminding me about Blitz. Hopefully the video store will have it.

EDIT: Hmm... if they have everything, I can only pick 2. Which to pick?

Stubbs... THAW... Blitz... The Warriors.

stubbs and Thaw, or at least that's what I would rent.

Unfortunately, the only new titles they seemed to carry were The Warriors, Spongebob, THAW, and Blitz. Blitz was gone when I went back, so I rented Warriors and THAW. Haven't played them yet.

I actually bought thaw (ps2, had some trade in credit left) and I like it very much.

Finally opened up my copy and played a solid three to four hours. The game is alot of fun and is full of comedy however I feel like I have already witnessed everything this game has to offer. This game is really short. While I am glad I got to play this title I feel 50 bucks was way to much to pay. Prob end up trading this one in as soon as I finish.

It's one of those games where you can see good things to come from it in the future. Hopefully there will be a sequel on the 360... with multi-player, of course. ;)

I think everything was executed perfectly, save for the games length. I played co-op with a friend and we made it to the last level within 2 - 3 hours. We stopped to save it for later.
