Girls suspended for V-word
`Vagina Monologues' excerpt broke rule

CROSS RIVER, N.Y. -- A public high school has suspended three students who disobeyed officials by saying the word "vagina" during a reading from a well-known play.

The honor students, Megan Reback, Elan Stahl and Hannah Levinson, included the word during their reading of "The Vagina Monologues" because, "It wasn't crude and it wasn't inappropriate and it was very real and very pure," Reback said.

This is natural, and furthermore, it follows in the tradition laid down by
Jesus and Mohammad of hating our bodies and being ashamed (especially women of course)

Now this is over and the culprits punished, can we please go back to pretending that men and women don't have "naughty bits"

That goes way before Christianity and Islam I'm sure, but still just as dumb.

They should've said bajingo instead.

They should have replaced the word vagina with someone getting beaten, stabbed and then shot because everyone seems cool with that.

Actually, I'm pretty sure Jesus would have been cool with it (I admit I'm not sure about Mohammad). I was being sarcastic, didnt you see me winking :D

I just think it's funny that people are so hysterical about preserving "conservative values" these days.

On a semi-related note, a local radio station was playing Green Day's "Longview" the other day, and fuzzed out the word "masturbation."

Ah, well, yeah I wouldn't interpret the character of Jesus to contain some hatred for the body either, but I was just going with the conservative Christian view. :p

You know damn well that saying the word "vagina" will incite orgies and general disarray (maybe even professor chaos....).

EDIT: On a slightly less related note inspired by myke's semi-related note, who invented this hierarchy of dirty words? I was thinking about it the other day and how damn, ass (though not asshole), bitch, and hell are kind of low-tier curse words that aren't always censored, but shit and fuck are almost always censored. WTF? Honestly. All I could come up with was that most of the less censored curse words I mentioned can be used in a non-vulgar context (although it doesn't matter if it's used vulgarly or not for their censorship) while shit and fuck are basically wholly vulgar.

I think shit is becoming more mainstream. fuck will always be taboo. I think it's the hard consonant sounds in fuck that make it just sound bad. Same thing with the C word (I don't like that word at all. Larry David does, though).

The school should have just told them not to perform The Vagina Monologues at all, if they felt it was inappropriate. Allowing them to perform it but banning one of the words in the title was just stupid.

I can understand banning any of the "dirty" words used to describe lady bits. I don't agree with it, but I expect it. But "vagina" is a fucking scientific term, people. I can't wait until we produce doctors who won't deliver babies because they can't look ... down. Down there. Where the ... sex happens. And babies come out. You know. THERE.
You forgot about cunt. That's a AAA curse.
That's the C word I talked about. That one seriously sounds dirty.

I always found it funny that the radio edit of 'Sure Shot' by the Beasties has 'shifting gears' edited out. :wtf:

Since when is vagina a dirty word? Did the principal snicker when they said it?
I heard the same thing happened in Iran with "The Ankle Monologues"

This made my month.

ROFL!!! Where the sex happens. Almost sounded like Borat

My old high school had to get rid of a jerking off gesture out of Rameo and Juliet because some bitch teacher complained. If my class was still in school it would have still been in the play.

Never piss off the minge!
Nothing beats when my professor called these two bitches in the class "fucking Twats".
Thats a professor through, but the point still stands that the teachers can get away with anythnig in the classroom but the students can't.
Anyone else find it ironic that in a thread complaining about censorship, fuck keeps popping up?
No because fuck is not a science term.

About 4 years ago, I was driving in Detroit and listening to the radio. A song by Eminem came on and the radio station edited out such horrific words such as "slap" and "anthrax".

I think what really begs to be asked here is this -- if the school allowed the readings from a bunch of things, including the Vagina Monologues -- did they really expect them to NOT say 'The Vagina Monologues.'
