Super Robot Taisen OG2 owners or anyone else, help me confirm if this is a bootleg

CAGiversary!
After a two week wait, I thought that I would be happy that I finally got my SRT:2 copy. However, there are some... oddities with this copy contrary to one would expect or learn from simply looking on the CAG Bootleg FAQ.

Anyway, this is my second time using a digital camera and the camera itself isn't that good, so the photo work won't be expert quality.

Anyway, this is the copy of SRT2 that I got:

And this is just a comparison to the first SRT game

I did find it fishy that the SRT2 copy lacks any kind of logo on the front what-so-ever. Not to mention the change from a T rating to an E rating, while not entirely impossible, is another oddity.

On the back, the SRT1 Copy reads: "Model No. ABG-002 PAT. Pend. Made in Japan"

The SRT2 Copy reads: "Model No. AGB-033. PAT. Pend. Made in Japan"

The CAG FAQ reads that the "Made in Japan" was a read flag. However, this might be a case of the bootleggers stepping up their game for the final stretch of the GBA's lifespan.

Oh, and one last piece of information: The purchase is here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=003&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=130125490673&rd=1&rd=1

Now I'm wondering exactly how to advance from here, since this is the first time an incident like this has happened...

Is it a tri-wing screw or a normal phillips head? Also, does the label feel like it's really on the cartridge or does it feel like you could peel it off easily.

That's how I've found my illegal GBA games.

Surprisingly, the screw is a Tri-Wing like every other GBA game. And the label is on there pretty tough, and it seems like it would take some force to take off, unlike the case with most other bootlegs.

EDIT: I opened it up so I could take a look at its contents. Turns out that it doesn't seem to have that Nintendo seal on the actual hard drive, and I need to recheck the CAG FAQ to see if the battery itself is a dead giveaway.

It's hard to tell from your pic, but I don't see any Nintendo print above the edge connector. There should be some white lettering above the gold-ish area that says "(c) [year] Nintendo [bunch of numbers and letters]."

Example from the FAQ:

No idea if it's a bootleg, but I can tell you the label of my SRT OG2 looks nothing like that. It's the same as the first game, but with the second game's logo. I got mine as a preorder at Gamestop, so I know it's legit. I don't know if maybe Atlus made multiple labels for the game.

Actually, there's something that I need to ask you that will pretty much confirm for certain if my game is a bootleg.

What is the ESRB Rating that is shown on your copy?

its a bootleg. i have OG2 and there is no robot on the label of the game. its like the OG 1 cover but says 2. the Banpresto games that were released here have no images on their labels beside the title design. Sign that seller over to ebay.

Phew...

Managed to get in touch with the seller, and he mentioned that he'll give me a full refund. Although, I did find it a bit odd how he said that he'll give the refund first and he asks about me sending the game back in a mere afterthought fashion, mentioning that he got the game from a second hand store and he would like the copy so he can get his money back.

I don't know if this is a standard phrase among bootleggers or if the seller is telling the truth.

Either way, thanks for all of your help. Now I just need to find a legit place to order it from.

... I wonder if Gamequestdirect is legit...

I spent $10 bucks on the ebay auction, shipping not included.

Gamequestdirect seems to have a sale for it for $9.99, but I have no idea if it's legit or fake. That, and it seems like no Gamestop has OG2, but seemingly always OG1 for some reason.

Hmm. GQD is 100% legit from what I understand. I think all the ill will towards them on the internet comes from collectors who are looking to e-bay games for $300 as the years pass.

He is probably telling the truth, perhaps he got it on the cheap somewhere and thought it would be worth something as it's an Atlus title, and threw it on eBay soon after.

I've personally unknowingly bought a bootleg at Gamestop, employees working at those type of stores typcially don't check.

Well, he's got 5 auctions up and 4 of them are cart-only GBA games (no actual pics of course). I'd bet the rest are bootlegs too ;). I mean, if he was selling more random stuff and just had the one cart-only GBA that turned out to be a bootleg, well, then it might be a mistake.

Feedback shows lots of cart-only GBA games.

He's also got another SRT:OG2 up currently.

Well, I didn't bother to check the seller's other auctions.

So back off man, back the fuck off!
