System rankings by Madden preorders at Wal-Mart

If anyone cares, I think this is a good way to tell what systems are popular with "mainstream" gamers.

1. PS2
2. 360
3. PS3
4. Xbox
5. Wii
6. PSP
7. GC
8. PC
9. DS

I think the only (mild) surprises here are that the PS3 is in 3rd and the PC is lower than even the GC. I guess I knew Madden is much more popular on consoles though.

If the casual gamers are all over the Wii, shouldn't it be higher than the PS3 at this point?

that, and a HUGE majority of madden owners play on the ps2. other than that, the main system to play it on is the xbox 360.

So in retrospect, the comment you made "I think this is a good way to tell what systems are popular with "mainstream" gamers." isn't completely valid because out of that list, the console with the highest numbers sold would be ps2, then ds.

I would think this too, but everywhere I go I see ads, signs, and employees trying to sell Madden preorders to everybody. My guess is that works to some extent at least.

I totally agree, and the reason I put "mainstream" in quotes is because I'm not sure what the right word is. What I'm trying to refer to is that huge segment of gamers that buy Madden, every year in many cases.

Still I can see there are a lot of problems with using this data to make any solid conclusions.

What? The PS2 is a great system. And cheap, nowadays (even for many new releases).
 
How does this tell us anything except what system madden fans are playing madden on?

The PS2 version is going to outsell every other version, followed by 360, and the PS3/Wii versions will be close. Pretty sure the Wii version outsold the PS3 version last year.
