Tax cuts and deficits

I'm having trouble understanding how we went from every conservative I know running around like their hair is on fire about the deficit to extending the Bush tax cuts for the richest 2% being policy goal #1 in what, a week? How did this happen? How did the narrative change that quickly? I don't understand.

Most conservatives, like the ones from 1980, 1994, 2000, and 2008, were never honest or serious when it came to the deficit. Pure lip service. Forget ~$70 billion a year in tax breaks, the fact that Republicans have had less than five people this cycle call for significant cuts in empire spending should have let you in on their priorities.

Since most conservatives are Good Republicans, they never stray from the party line and support the guy/gal on the R ticket (... trickle down?).

Well, they have to reward success. What do you expect them to do? Punish the successful rich with higher taxes?!? How will the money trickle down if the rich get mad and stop giving us scraps???

There is plenty of waste to cut that will only affect the lazy poor. And fuck them, they aren't entitled to free stuff from (if not now, later because it will only be a matter of time before my hard work is rewarded!) MY TAX MONEY!!!!! Maybe they should just work a little harder instead of expecting everything to be given to them.

The deal has something to annoy everyone -- but also something for everyone. You're a Democrat? The tax cuts for the rich are extended, and the estate tax deal exempts inheritances up to $5 million while cutting the rate heirs pay to 35 percent. But that's why the Republicans like it. You're a Republican? The tax cuts are only extended for two years, and they're paired with 13 months of unemployment insurance, an extension of a variety of tax credits passed in the stimulus, and a new payroll tax cut -- all of them deficit-financed. But that's why the Democrats like it. You're a deficit hawk? The deal adds more than $700 billion to the deficit. And, let's be honest, you got nothing in return.
And not a squeak from the Tea Party candidates.

You'll get a few guys who speak out against it, but that train left the station in the spring of 2009, by and large.

I was in a rage last night when I read that Democrats traded unemployment benefits for an extension of the tax cuts for the rich. I have always said anyone that does not vote has no right to complain, and that voting third party is a wasted vote....next election I just do not think I can bring myself to vote unless there is a Green party candidate...who finally has my vote. I just can not bring myself to vote for Democrats anymore(and Republicans are obviously a fools choice less your rich or paranoid).

people who don't vote have more of a right to complain than those that do vote, it's the voters that got it all wrong!

Nice rah rah by Bernie Sanders, though wouldn't it be nice if he admitted that he makes $174,000 per year (at a minimum) in his rant against the unjust distribution of income across the board?

You do realize that voting at all, no matter the party, is wasted?

The larger political goal is to bleed states dry, and use that as a platform to bust up unions and eliminate their pensions. Listening to talk radio incessantly over 2010, that much is clear. It is class warfare of the wealthy to increase their take at the same time they weaken or destroy union solidarity and pensions.

Collectivism of wealthy interests is being used to eliminate collectivism at the worker level, pit us against each other, and ignore how we're all being hoodwinked by the power elite.

There's no other way to get to an oligarchy.

Honestly, I'd be okay with the government forcing hyperinflation at this point. Print money until a gallon of milk costs $2,000 one day and $300,000 the next. The market will eventually have to rise up to help us common folk earn enough to buy that gallon of milk, and in the meantime we've eliminated wealth inequality by the real elites in society, save for those who have a large stake in commodities.

Accusations of class warfare often come from the right as a means of quashing discussion or debate, but in reality the wealthy have been waging class war since the mid-1970's, to their success and our demise. Time to fight back. Hyperinflation is the answer.

Don't worry myke, you'll get your hyperinflation. Apparently neither party has any real interest in concrete solutions to fix the deficit so the only way out will be to print enough currency until the dollar is worthless.

Yep. We'll be like Germany after WWI. But given my level of student loan debt, which is probably about 50-60% what you have, we'll actually benefit, yes?

He needs an "S" next to his name on CSPAN, not an "I." He needs to display that shit proudly. The guy is so awesome. He summed up all that is wrong with this country in 13 minutes. It fell on deaf ears because he was EXACTLY RIGHT. Shame on Obama and Congress. Bunch of fucking assholes.

That's why I laugh when anyone says Obama is a socialist. Besides that it's just ridiculous, there's plenty of evidence to the contrary.

The politicians have already agreed to give into the rich, this is simply political theater. Obama just did a piss-poor job of playing his role.

I have full faith that the Congressional Democrats will put on a better show before they also cave in to the demands of the rich at the 11th hour.

The chance of hyperinflation and fiscal ruin is still bupkis although I realize you might've just been humoring doctor herpaderp.
