The most recent issue of Japanese game mag Famitsu announces that ninja stealth action title Tenchu 4 is headed for the Wii. The game will be developed by Acquire who worked on the early Tenchu titles and Armored Core dev From Software who published Xbox 360 exclusive Tenchu Z.

After the atrocity that was Tenchu Z I think this series should defect to the garbage dumpster.
Tenchu Z developer K2 was dumped for the original developer Acquire, so this version will hopefully be better than the 360 version.

Tenchu is about as welcome in my home as syphilis, but the OG devs being behind this one makes me interested.

I played and enjoyed the original.

I hope this is very similar to the first.

will be great if we can aim the wii mote where we want to grapple.

Haha that was pretty funny. I've only played the first one but I heard from pretty much everyone was hating on the 2nd one.

Tenchu 4 trailer

Tenchu IV details, screens, Tenchu V and VI planned, and…distribution by Ubisoft?!

- Main characters: Rikimaru and Ayame
- Story: set one year after the riots caused by the Witchcraft Lord “Tenrai”. There are still some evil people behind the scenes that are causing trouble, and gaining in power. There was also an incident involving the kidnapping of princess Kiku (Lord Gouda Matsunoshin’s daughter). Rikimaru and Ayame must find out what is going on with these happenings.
- “Stealth Ninja Action Game”
- developers are saying that this could be the ‘epitome of the series’
- new character designs
- new actors
- both characters have different fighting styles, and “assassination cutscenes”.
- Stealth actions: hide in water, climb on ceilings, sneak around above the ceiling, hide in the dark, hide bodies, hide within caravans to sneak into heavily guarded locations, and more moves completely new to the series
- special move allows you to quickly dispose of a body into water, effectively hiding the corpse
- ninja tools from previous entries return, and have been reworked for Wiimote/Nunchuk control
- www.tenchu.net may be updated on June 7th with info

Also from the kotaku post about this the original developer of Tenchu has returned to do this one. So it will definetly be a lot better then that abortion of a 360 game.

I really like the trailer. Very obviously gameplay and it already looks very good. Hopefully it will come out here this year and not just Japan.

This is the best news the Tenchu series has had in years. Hopefully Aquire will learn from the mistakes that have been made. The last few games have been embarrassing, especially if you compare them to the original PS1 titles.

Not exactly high quality but heres some screens.

Are there any stealth ninja games out there besides this. Ninja Gaiden is all action so that of course doesn't count. This is the onl one being worked on I believe. At least that i've heard of.

If anyone knows otherwise i'm very interested.

I love this series, I've got all of the other games including some Japanese imports that never got released in the US.

Will be getting this day one! :bouncy:

A ton of screens and stuff has come out. Here's some I thought were interesting for quick viewing.
Some of them suggest some really cool gameplay others seem strange and I think we need more information.

Still for those who haven't seen it I've included a picture of one of the Ninja Cat screens. And of course link to the pictures is below as well.

Game looks to be shaping up well.

I've actually greatly enjoyed the most recent three Tenchu games... excluding the DS one. Wrath of Heaven was great. Fatal Shadows had EXCELLENT old-style samurai movie presentation, but the claustrophobic level design meant it was memorization or bust. Tenchu Z for the 360 was a LOT better than the reviews gave it credit for, and it was the only evolution the series has seen in quite a while. Yeah, it was bland and the plot was stupid, but the levels were designed pretty well, the AI was improved greatly (So that one ?! guard didn't mean EVERY GUARD IN THE WORLD was also ?!) and it was just a lot of fun.

Plus, the half a second leeway once seen to still do a stealth kill cured 90% of the "memorization" related problems of WoH and FS, and the open, large, interesting level design was also a welcome change.
Screenshots look promising. Of course the biggie will be gameplay. WMP-capable?
It releases next month in Japan. WMP releases next spring. I'd say no.

I read the review yesterday and it got my hopes up. My Gamefly copy should be showing up today or tomorrow hopefully so I can be a ninja this weekend. I mean, more of a ninja than usual.
You can shake cats in this game, how awesome is that.
WHAT? Are you serious? I can't wait to do that, then play some Petz Crazy Monkeyzzzzzz and take food away from the monkey. This is shaping up to be a great weekend.
[shaking cat gif]
That right there might have just pushed it over the top. Looking to buy sooner than later now.

Yeah - I might just keep it from Gamefly if there is enough cat shaking.
Yeah - I might just keep it from Gamefly if there is enough cat shaking.
Could be quite a nice change of pace. My current cat doesn't care for it much and I always end up with lacerations.

I've heard that the AI is extremely inconsistent. After my experiences with Hitman 2, that makes me... a little hesitant to bite on Tenchu. Plus, there's House of the Dead and Deadly Creatures...

Sometimes the AI spots you and its a bitch to get out, but overall Id say they are on par with Chaos Theory, which is to say, not very good.

Anyone every find out whether this game takes place before the non-acquire made Tenchu games , or whether this game retcons the non-acquire games from the series?

Picked this up from the newegg sale for 16 bucks. Havnt played much yet, but the little bit I did play was fun. (I need to finish de Blob before I get started on this one)
