Terror Cells Within in the US.

It is widely known that Al-Quida is operating within the US with secret cells that are planning attacks. Many of these cells have been found and cought within the US but have heard about in the public eye, avoiding fear of civilians. I heard that cells have been found in NYC,Oklahoma City,LA, and other major US cities. My source of info is Farenhype 9/11 and other sources such as the radio. What is your guys view and are you freightened and worried about terror cells operating within our boarders.

I think I would trust farenheit over farenhype, and that's saying something. That being said, over 5,000 foreign nationals were arrested after 9/11. There was only one conviction, in detroit, but this was later overturned due to prosecution misconduct and failure to introduce evidence that could have exonerated them. So with a record of 0- 5000, there is little to no evidence for anything on the scale you suggested. Ted kennedy made it onto the watch list link, multiple times, and needed to call tom ridge to sort things out, it took 3 weeks. We even refuse to allow the likes of cat stevens into our country. I'm not saying there aren't terrorists in the u.s. (international and domestic), but there is very little evidence to support this. The overwhelming majority of the arrests made have accomplished nothing other than to punish innocent people. stir up anti muslim sentiment, and further alienate a fringe minority community.

The neat thing about terrorist cells, alonzo, is that they operate in secret. You should read the 9/11 report and see for yourself how the hijackers moved through our country with impunity. There's a good chance that there are others here planning something.

And since the FBI's got their hands full already with domestic terrorism because of the lunatic fringes who were born and raised here, I suspect there may be many others operating without detection or waiting to be activated. After all, the 9/11 hijackers took several years to develop and execute their plans.

The Detroit convictions that were overturned? They are being re-tried. Although they might not be terroristss, they were conducting a document forging business. There have been terrorist related convictions mostly for aiding or providing 'material support' for terrorist groups, which is questionable in and of itself. But since there hasn't been an occurance of a terrorist act since 9/11 it's pretty hard to convict someone of commiting one.

Hollywood, Fla. August 2002: Imran Mandhai and Shueyb Mossa Jokhan, pleaded guilty of planning to engage in jihad by destroying electrical power stations, Jewish institutions and other targets in southern Florida with the goal of attracting other Islamists, linking up to al Qaeda and creating a state of anarchy. At the appropriate moment, they would issue their demands, which included no help for Israel, freeing all Muslims in U.S. jails and U.S. withdrawal from the Middle East.

In 2001, an FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force in Charlotte, North Carolina, utilized racketeering statutes to obtain criminal convictions and, thus, disrupt and dismantle a Hizballah procurement and fundraising cell. Twenty-four individuals were arrested for crimes including immigration fraud, visa fraud, cigarette smuggling, interstate transportation of stolen property, fraud, bank fraud, bribery, money laundering, racketeering, and providing material support to a designated terrorist organization, with the final conviction delivered in 2003. Sentences imposed range up to more than 150 years.

Offices of the Benevolence International Foundation (BIF), a US based charity, were shut down and its assets and records blocked following an OFAC and FBI investigation which determined the charity was being used to funnel money to Al Qa'ida. In February 2003, Enaam Arnaout, the head of BIF, pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy, admitting he fraudulently obtained charitable donations in order to provide financial assistance to persons engaged in violent activities overseas.

The department's [Dept. of Justice] achievements include: 70-plus terrorist financing or material support investigations into terrorism financing, 23 convictions to date; 36 entities designated as terrorist organizations; 113 million (dollars) frozen in financial assets of 62 organizations that support terrorism. - J Ashcrof, senate testimony, 2003

Among others. Actually, the DOJ cites over 200 terrorist related convictions in 2002 alone, see this. Investigations are still pending, so are trials. Just becuase there is not a rogue's gallery of convicted terrorists doesn't mean they aren't operating, it means they haven't been caught, or convicted yet. WE all know how slow the legal process can be. So before you put that cart before the Michael Moore bandwagon, ask yourself why Ted Kennedy should be exempt from the bureaucratic nonsense that plagues the rest of us common people. Because he's a senator ? I think that's the funniest Godamnned thing ever. Nice to know you can just call up tom ridge when you're having a problem. It's good to be the king. I'll remember that the next time I'm being triple searched and bomb swabbed everytime I get on an airplane.

Also to ad a point terror cells have been operating within the US since around 1990 most notably when a cell was discovered in Jersey City, NJ in 1993, which was composed of the people who originally bombed the WTC in 1993. The reason we never here about them in the media is b/c most people who go into near panic if they new terrorist could live next door to them in a city.

Bmulligan, your beliefs are based on speculation. I didn't say there were no terrorists I said there was nothing to support it. There have been no terrorist convictions of foreign nationals that have been upheld, zero. Also, while he is a u.s. citizen, mandhai's conviction was thrown out, the second and third have nothing to do with terrorists cells in the u.s., and the fourth is just a quote from ashcroft. I'd also like to know why you think a u.s. senator, such as ted kennedy, would make it onto the no fly list? My point is if he gets on there, how many other innocent people do? People who don't have the same power to sort things out.

And friday, looking at the farenhype site, which ones are democrats? Dick Morris, ann coulter, ron silver, peter king, ed kock, steve emerson, frank gaffney, david frum, david kopel, david hardy, or bill sammon? The two democrats listed? Ed kock (stated he voted for bush), and zell miller (votes republican, gave speech at rnc, democrat in name only). You need to stop being so delusional "it's all facts and all democrats", sure it is.

You keep pimping Fahrenhype like you're on their payroll. I have yet to see one credible review that gives this farce any weight.
