Okay, so this isn't exactly braggin' rights. But, if I had found something cool, this is where I would post it. So, I figured posting an anti-braggin rights thread about not finding stuff could count too. :}

In any case, I've been out to garage sales the last 3 out of 4 weekend and have not found ONE THING gaming related that was worth picking up...RRRGGGGHHH!! I don't mind driving around and going to sales, but, it would be nice to find SOMETHING within one month of going to some sales. The majority of the sales I run across have stuff they shouldn't have even tried to donate to Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Stuff like ragged out clothes and broken stuff...WTF? I don't expect to find something every time I go out. But geez, hitting as many sales as I have over the past month and not finding anything?...thphphph.

Anywho, anyone else striking out lately when they have been hunting those cool braggin' rights items?

Damn, I thought this was going to be a thread where we could piss on final fantasy nerds when they find their holy grails at gamestop...

My last good find was getting Suikoden 2 with the 3 for $15 deal at Gamecrazy. It's been months since I got anything really good.

I'm hoping to hit the flea market tomorrow, so maybe I'll get lucky...

You'd be lucky to find a good deal at the flea market.

I used to score awesome deals there, like Persona 1 and 2 for $10 dollars each, but now every backwater trashpile and their mother thinks they can price stuff at Ebay prices and it will sell.

I'm not even talking about average Ebay prices... I'm talking about the highest price that item has gone for in it's lifetime. One guy tried selling me an NES top loader, no hookups, no controllers, dirty as hell system for 80 dollars.

That's Ebay price, he told me. I told him to try and get 80 dollars on Ebay for it then, and walked away.

Damn! Sucks to be you.

Haven't had any luck with the garage sales either. My wife looks out for me when she goes, and she told me that there was actually someone trying to sell a sega genesis (without cables or controllers) for $60.

What is up with garage sales these days and the prices they are asking? I've come across a lot lately that are asking just a little below new.

Not being critical here . . . but an "anti-braggin" situation should be about the really stupid things you did.

Like when I traded in a $5 (new sealed from Best Buy) Earthbound, the big box with everything, for $40 in Funcoland credit.

That's not the bad part . . . I picked up 2 more from BB and brought them over . . . but they had dropped to $6 at Dumbcoland . . . but this being 1997 and Ebay not really being in my mind . . . I took the $12 credit.

I have freaking tons of crap . . . I could've just put those in a box with other stuff . . . and today pocket $200-300 for them on ebay . . . man that one hurts.

They look on Ebay and see the largest possible amount their item went for. They don't to see if maybe that Sega Genesis included games, hookups, and controllers. All they see is that it went for 60-70, so they think their dirty beat up system can also get $60.

Just got back to checking this thread...

snotknocker
I did sort of make up for it recently by taking some XBOX games I didn't want anymore into a GameCrazy and got $20 credit for them. I used the credit + $6.17 out of pocket to pick up a Dreamcast. Along with the DC I got one of those sheets of 12 free Hollywood Video game/movie rental coupons (a $72 value since game rentals are $6 each). Now, I'm gonna turn around and sell the DC on ebay to get some money back out of the deal. :}

It is amazing what people will ask for stuff once they look it up on ebay. I remember when collector price guides got real big (comics, sci-fi/toy stuff, etc.) that EVERYBODY and their brother thought their broken old toys or beat up comic were worth the "mint" price listed in the books. You wouldn't believe some of the prices I've seen some people ask for things.

schultzed
I was unlucky, not stupid...at least in this case...lol.

My best find last Saturday was an oversized lightbulb lamp for $0.25 It has a normal lamp (with a normal sized bulb) covered by a giant plastic light bulb, so when you turn it on it appears to be a giant-sized light.

Passed on a N64 for $20. If it had the mem expansion I may have bit, but not for one with just the jumper pack.

You have to be flexible and looking for all kinds of stuff when you go out. Makes it more fun.

Luckily the sales with absolute garbage around me are the minority. (Meaning they are selling stuff that should just be put in the trash.) They actually make for some laughs when we leave. Went to one where the lady had a box full of (I assume used) panties she was selling :shock:

I didn't haggle a pawn broker from $15 down to $10 on a cart only copy of Zelda:Lttp for the GBA. He wanted $12, so I said no. Is that what I'm supposed to do in this thread?

You guys that can haggle are lucky.

A good majority of the pawn shops here are Cash America, and are a big chain. All the prices are pretty much set in stone for everything.

That's good on rare stuff, since the same price is universal. Gitaroo Man would be 11 dollars, if they had it, but so would Madden 2004.

I've told this story before, but it has an important message.
I had a PSX with a ton of sweet RPGs. I'm talking Suikoden 1 and 2, Star Ocean 2 etc. Well, one day I get Chrono Cross and start playing it. It blows, and blows bad, yet I keep on. Eventually, I beat the game and am so disgusted that, the very same day, I put the controller down, unhooked my system and traded in the system+games at EB for a Gamecube(This was like a week after the GC came out). I'm satisfied with my GC, but Jesus Titty fucking Christ I lost some good games. I did keep Lunars1+2 and Star Ocean though, but the others were forever lost. I didn't use ebay at the time (I was like 15 or something, I believe) so I had no way of knowing just how much Suikoden 2 went for. I' swear that one day I will replace it. So, to the guy who traded in those Earthbounds, I understand how it feels.

Moral of the Story: Chrono Cross is total shit.

I know exactly how ya feel about trading rare stuff in, I had gotten FF7 when it first came out and loved it. So then when my birthday rolled around one of my friends got me a sealed new black-box copy of it. So I had the bright idea to take it in to Funcoland and trade it. I think I got a whooping $10 in credit or so.

But as for garage sales, I havent found jack crap either. My best find was a boxed zelda: majoras mask for $3 and 2 boxed genesis games for $1. The garage sale finds for me have been slim to none :(
