That's not saying much, and it's not being completely honest either. But what else would you expect from Nintendo Power magazine.

Pokemon Colleseum is an empty shell of a game. The fact that there is no voice over dialogue is simply inexcusable in todays age of gigabyte storage on tiny disks. Had there been voice overs, I may not be as harsh a critic of this game, but a game devoid of sound save the annoying beeping everytime a line of text is displayed drains on my soul. I expect this from a GBA game for $30 and limited memory, not for a $50 blockbuster Nintendo release. Simply put, voices would have given Colleseum some personality and drawn me into thinking I was actually participating in a Pokemon world.

From the moment I started playing this game I couldnt help but think I was playing Pokemon Stadium on the N64. The graphics are comparable. I did the 4 game trade in at EB games for this title and I'd be pissed if I had shelled out $50 for this garbage. They've had years to improve the genre, and have done nothing to enhance the Pokemon experiance. At least with Super Smash Bros, they improved the graphics, sound, speed, gameplay, presentation, interface, options, and fun factor considerably. Mario Cart too warrants a nod for it's update to the Cube. Pokemon, however, is a badstard sibling, cloned from the N64 DNA recombinated and re-shrinkwrapped for the new console simply to steal your hard earned cash.

Okay, the first few statements made me think "sigh, another one". Does every game require voice acting these days? Is Zelda automatically the WORST GAME EVAR because it doesn't have voice acting? Nope. You're over-reacting to a stupid point.

It's also not like voice acting is top quality in games, either. Sure, you have gems : Metal Gear Solid, Xenosaga, and so forth - but a vast majority of titles have some of the worst voice acting ever. It's corny and cheap, bad actors.

I'm glad Zelda wasn't voice acted, and I'd like it to stay that way.

...No...what I think he meant was that the Pokemon (instead of having the voices given to them in the TV show/movies), all have the GAME BOY sound effects. So instead of hearing Pikachu say "Pika PIka", he says *insert sound of dial up modem*.

So I agree with dude #1.

I enjoy Wind Waker immensely. Great scenery, puzzles, enemies. The experience as a whole is tremendous. Colleseum has none of the presence, or charisma of Wind Waker. Not simply because there are no voices, but because there's no style to it, or overall continuity or character. I'm just saying it would have added a lot more to the game to be voiced because it doesn't have much else to keep you interested in the story. Even the music in WW is tremendous while Colleseum is just annoying backround filler tunes. A piss poor effort, guaranteed to make money. I'm ashamed to call myself a Nintendo fan because of this. (well, this and Pokemon Channel, another waste of plastic)

Yeah, the game is a definite disappointment, not so much because of the lack of good sound effects, but because of the lack of features. In Pokemon stadium you could choose a team of pokemon from all of the available pokemon and fight a friend or the computer with these pokemon. This was cool if you had a friend that didn't play the game on the gameboy so at least you could still battle. Now you can't, you can only use pokemon either imported from your gameboy or the single player version of the game. This is just rediculous, how can they feature so many things in the N64 version and take most of them away in the GC version. The single player adventure is a nice addition, but I would rather have all of the old features in lieu of the new ones.

i hate games that talk too much.

games talking to me creeps me out, sio no voice acting is a definite plus.

Id rether have a choice to turn spoken dialogue on or off because this issue seems to be split down the middle. Noobs don like all the reading that goes along with RPG's and old schoolers dont like that it limits their imagination (or so ive read) personally i couldnt care less, its just somedays when you come back form a class or finish up a book for class the next day and the last thing i want to do is read somemore. t would be cool if they could do this but it'll probably never happen in a blockbuster game. Oh BTW nintendo powers sucks, If it hadnt come with the zelda collectors disk I would have sent it back and got my $20 back. Such a random unorganized magazine written what looks llike to be 14 year olds (sorry i just needed to vent that)

Oh BTW nintendo powers sucks.

Yes, and we are all going value your opinion highly because that was such an insiteful, well thought out critique of the magazine.
Please.

I agree. Its not the best magazine, but a free guide or game for 20 bucks plus a year of a magazine is not a bad deal.

Nintendo Power DOES suck. But one shouldn't expect a magazine written by and for a company that wants to push games to 9 year olds to be objective in the first place. Almost every "review" is 4-5 stars. Review is in quotes because they never actually review any games, they just explain the story and how great it is then give their rating. Very rarely do they ever deepsix a game or speak harshly about it.

I also only ordered it for the Zelda disk but I don't plan on renewing. I don't plan on buying any Pokemon games ever again, either.

How hard would it have been to add voices and give you the option to turn them off? Not very hard. Even bad voice acting would give my 4 year old son the ability to play the game. His love for all things Pokemon is the only thing keeping me from selling it right now.

I just have to add that I've seen more polygons on a 1st grade geometry test than in one frame of this game. And more Jags than in a car dealership.

Not to knock the Dreamcast, but it definately feels like a dreamcast game. Save the textures, Dreamcast games have better graphics than this Pokemon poop.

Nintendo is really trying to milk the Pokemon series at this point. This game would have been great on the N64 if it had replaced Pokemon Stadium IMHO, but I don't know that it's a worthy GC title. I'm especially shocked that in a game like this, you travel from place to place via cutscenes, and there are no wild Pokemon to catch! What kind of Pokemon game is this?!

The reason I get Nintendo Power is because they have some good deals like Metroid Prime + Memory Card + $10 coupon off for Wave-bird and strategy guide for 60 bucks...oh yeah and the magazines too :)

Anyways, Nintendo treats its readers like 8 year olds so I don't really have ever paid attention to anything they had to say in that magazine.

I do agree that not giving voices at least to the pokemon was a bit stupid....I mean why keep the gameboy sounds? Now as in voices for the characters I could care less, most Nintendo brand games only have very minimum voicing, and some non-Nintendo brand games like Harvest Moon. Besides giving them voices would have made it too annoying in my opinion. Remember how annoying that announcer guy in Stadium was when he would say things like "It's a one-hit wonder!" "What move will he use next" and so on...I'm glad it has no voices.

Fact is I have not played any pokemon games since Red (where I actually caught them all and traded and actually had fun). I kept seeing all these releases and was not interested. Now that I play PC, well to be honest, I like it. It's a game I can just turn on, battle a few people, snag their pokemon and save and go on with my life. I might get interested in the genre again, and that makes Darke Katt very happy.

Nintendo Power was good when I was a kid. Now, well, it's still directed at kids. The only thing I still like to look at is the reader art. I only got it for the Zelda disc, and I don't plan on renewing.

I'm planning on getting Colosseum. I've always enjoyed the Pokemon series, and it looks like a fun little game. I never had the opportunity to play the N64 one, so I don't mind if it's similar.
