The Best Video Game Introductions and Trailers of All Time

Assassin's Creed - I was beyond psyched for that game based on trailers and whatnot. Shitty reviews have kept me from playing it. It's got to drop down to ~10 eventually.

I really really LOVED the Gears of War trailer. It was so cinematic. I would have to agree with you, though, for the FFVIII opening. Fantastic FMV to start one of my favorite games of all time.

It wasn't all that bad, really. A bit repetitive after a while, but the gameplay was pretty fun.

I'd have to say the trailers and hype surrounding Spore really built me up. Not the best from a cinematic perspective, but for building hype they did their job...

All time favorite has to be FFVIII. Seriously, there was nothing about it that wasn't perfect.

Also really liked the intro to FFX. Onimusha 1's opening ranks pretty highly, as well.

I can't remember any game having a particularly cool intro in recent years, though...

I really liked the cinematic right before you got to play in Devil May Cry four. Does that count?
For some reason i just really loved it, actually watched it numerous times.

For an old one, I'm not sure anything beat the original Panzer Dragoon on the Saturn for an opening. The game hasn't held up the best, but the opening and music are simply stellar.

Did Assassins Creed get bad reviews? Most of the ones I saw were pretty good, and I really enjoyed playing through the game. I paid $30 for it earlier this year (on an early price drop) and thought it was money well spent.

I'll embed both of these here after work.

Onimusha 3's CG intro.

And for trailers, I'd say MGS: Snake Eater Tokyo Game Show Trailer.

That was incredibly badass.

Vagrant Story's trailer was incredible. I had that french horn motif stuck in my head for days afterward.

Ace Combat 6's trailer was pretty good. Great visuals and editing, and an excellent soundtrack. The only thing that spoiled it was that they just used the most random dialogue clips (plus it was all corny Ace Combat dialogue).

Suikoden II and Parasite Eve had really cool opening videos.

Oh yeah, I really loved the opening for Suikoden III, as well. Great song, great anime, good action. Sometimes I pop in my game disc just to watch the opening a few times.
Wild Arms had a great anime and music intro if you didn't press start. I used to watch it almost every time I started to play the game.
My first PSX RPG!
Ultra cool 3D battles!

Man I loved this game.
And yes, that intro was magical.

I'm a bit old school. I still think the intro to FFVI was awesome. It's about the music and the ability that intro has to immerse you immediately into that world. Just from hearing the music the first time I booted up Legend of Zelda I could tell it was something radically different.

I think there are just too many good ones to count. :)

Not only the intro to FFVI, but you gotta love the scene where Edgar/Locke/Terra escape from Kefka on Chocobo's as the castle sinks into the sand and Locke's theme starts playing. I still get chills playing that now.
