I'm only going to be a junior this year in college, but already I'm getting harassed by graduate MBA/MAccounting programs to apply for "early admission" and "dual degree" programs. These, of course, require GMAT scores. Has anyone here taken it and know what it's like? Is it something you really need to study your ass off for like the GRE and LSAT? I really haven't heard much in the way of its difficulty, so I'm curious. And if anyone can offer good study tools/books, that'd be great too. Thanks.

my gf is taking it next month, shes been studying the math portion which is a huge range of math and totally beyond me (history major) ill ask her how hard it is later today and if you dont mind a waiting a month, how hard it was.

Study ass off, yes. There are a number of study guides, computerized and otherwise. Check out Amazon and do some browsing, then see if half.com has them.

WTF there's a huge range of math on it? You've got to be kidding me. :wall:

I'd suggest heading into a book store and sitting down for a few hours with some study guides to familiarize yourself with the test. Look at the general rules, content, etc.

Stats definitely and probably some business calculus would be helpful. I am using them both in my MBA program right now. (Using accounting also, but I don't know if that is on the GMAT.)

my gf said theres a lot of math to study, but its all math that she knows, but because its stuff that she knows shes getting nervous that shes over-confident and isnt studying enough. shes was an econ major. when she signed up for the GMAT she was supplied with tons of materials for study online, she bought a book before but she said the stuff online is better for studying.

It has been 5 or 6 years since I took the GMAT, but I remember it as being relatively easy. I didn't take any classes or anything, just picked up one or two review books and studied those. I took the test once and ended up with a 710. As far as comparisons go, I thought the LSAT was much more difficult and I never took the GRE.

If you did well on the SAT, you should be able to do well on the GMAT.

Im hoping to pursue a career in accounting and I am curious to know what "business calculus" entails?

From the class on it I took in college, nothing very hard. It was a lot easier than the math major calculus I took the previous quarter (switched to the business calc track the second quarter to have an easier time fulfilling my GECs, stupid advisers saying that honors students should take the math major calc track when there was no need to :wall:).

Business stats is also fairly easy. Thanks for the tips guys.

I didn't really notice a difference. Same goes for Business stats which I am currently taking. It's just a bullshit class for them to take more of your money.

wait a sec, what exactly is GMAT... I saw in your OP you mentioned accounting briefly... I mainly just plan to sit for the bitch of a CPA test in a little over a year... is this comparable?

business stats was a waste of time/credits... taught basically what I learened in a stats class I took in high school. Had little to....................... wait a sec.... not a damn thing to do with business! I have no idea why my college (University Wisconsin Sloshkosh) markets these classes as huge business classes when they dotn have any business problems in them... just another way for the bookstore to gank some more money from you.

Dude, I don't even show up to stats class. The professor is a fucking joke, all he does is read powerpoint slides from the makers of the book. I can do that shit on my own. And like you said its just high school stats all over again.

The GMAT is to get into the masters business program. Doesn't compare to the CPA test.
