The Next PS2 Price Cut?

i doubt we'll see another accross-the-board cut on current-gen systems. I could see the PS2 and XB doing temporary sales at $99 around the holidays to encourage more buyers, but it was a bit of a stretch for them to drop to $150 as it is....
but hey - I've been wrong many times before, and I hope for the sake of anyone who wants these sytems that the price DOES drop!!

Probably not. There wouldnt be a need to have to price drops within 6 months. And the 97014 comes with the 50001 model ps2. One number is like the serial number or stock number while the other is the model number, or something like that. My box says 97014 on the front but 50001 on the top and on the back of my ps2 it says 50001. The 97013 is the older online bundle with the 39001 model.
Oh ok at the model numbers...hopes the price drop happens...because I refuse to buy one till it gets to 100, maybe 120. I don't understand why they don't drop it more...as 150 isn't much of a difference from 180 and most people who want it around that price level have gotten it already.
Past patterns would suggest $129 in time for the holiday shopping season.
Later on, there will almost certainly be a major engineering rev of the PS2 to replace the PSone at the low end in time for the PS3 introduction. This formula worked quite well for Sony once already and they'll likely stick with that.

I think that he meant the Xbox is the only console that the manufacturer loses money on with each one sold. I don't think this is correct, because Sony was losing money when it was selling for $300 (if I remember correctly) and they have not streamlined the manufacturing process enough to make money now that it sells at $150. From what I remember hearing only the GC sells for a profit.

heh i was happy when i bought my first ps2 about 2 months ago..for $150 with the ATV Offroad Fury 2 and Online package built in rather than the regular PS2....my bro got one about 3 months erlier wen it was $175 and was like YEA!

While it was only a $30 price drop for the standalone version, the online bundle went from $200 to $150. And if you still dont want to pay that, you can always sell or trade in the Network Adaptor and ATV offroad 2.

Actually, i traded that in for $18 in credit at Gamerush quite easily. That little warning is for regular stores, not personal use.

I doubt it. The retailers have to buy the PS2 and Xbox for $150, and $100 for the Gamecube. I doubt that they want to loose any money on the systems. I do agree about Sony not dropping the price on the PS2 until the PS3 comes out.
