Holy crap - there isn't a funnier 1/2 hour of TV on the air right now. Last night's season premiere picked up right where they left off. I was laughing out loud for the entire show. I'm so glad it's back.

"I watch The L Word and Queer as F-ck"

Any thoughts?

I have never laughed so hard at a show in a while. This definately made my day last night and I missed the first 10min of the show...Its recorded on my DVR so I'll definately fire it up tonight. Best Episode EVER!! Between this and "How I Met your Mother"....I'm set.

Glad to see others on here like the show as well. I thought last night's episode was hilarious, and I'm happy that Michael's behavior went right back to straddling the line of "Completely hilarious yet makes me feel completely anxious."

Creed's line about how "a man could have slipped in there" when talking about his sexual escapades made me lose it.

That was hands down the best line on the show last night

haha, i agree with everyone...

i started off very disappointed with the fact that jim was no longer in the office with pam, but by the end everything was meant to be haha... haven't seen an episode of the office this funny in a loonnnggg time

season 3 is going to be amazing

I think it won't be long before Jim comes back to Scranton. They'll bring him back somehow and he'll probably take a couple of people from the other office with him. I read somewhere that a romance starts between him and a woman from the new office too.

Well they have left it very open as to what will happen, although they did't say what happened between Michael and his real estate agent, so that might work itself back in, who knows.

Boo. He's a great character, but if that's the twist this season, may as well just leave him out of the office. That kills the Pam/Jim subplot as much as if he were kicked off the show.

my only complaint is there are too many office romances, Ryan and Kelly, Dwight and Angela, Michael and Jan, Jim and Pam. They need to kill some of these off. Otherwise, last night was another strong episode. I love the Mug shot of Pam's ex-fiance after his DUI arrest, a nice touch that had me laughing so hard.

We don't know that Ryan and Kelly or Michael and Jan are still going on though.

yeah, there is really only 1 relationship, dwight and angela, the rest are either not together, were together, or going to be together in like 2 seasons.

also, jim is going to date the girl in the new office, thats what happened in the british version, and thats what will happen here.

I didn't find that funny at all. I think it was suppposed to be a bit sad, actually.

I actually thought Oscar was going to quit before the end of the episode and Jim would transfer back to take his place. Oscar's going on a 3-month paid vacation, so that's still in play. I don't see them being able to carry the two-office thing for the entire season, as the Jim/Pam romance is the heart of the show. And they were emphasizing pretty heavily that Jim was miserable in Stanford and had no reason to stay (other than to exile himself from Pam, who of course is now single). The look on his face when the Jell-O stapler prank went awry was classic. But the Michael-Oscar kiss was definitely the highlight of the show and possibly the series to this point. I also liked the very subtle wistful look on Pam's face when Dwight receives the Gaydar.

Incidentally, just because a plotline played out a certain way in the British version doesn't mean it will go the same direction in the American version. There's a great article on Slate comparing the four versions of "The Office": British, American, French, and German. They're all populated with the same rough character types, but that's where the similarities end.

Have you ever worked in a real office? You'd be surprised...

They stopped having office Christmas parties here for precisely that reason.

I love my wife more than anything and have no reason to stray, but if I was not married there are at least four women in this office that would warrant attention. ;)

That mug shot reminded me of something they would do on Arrested Development. The funniest thing on the show last night was the gaydar. I laughed my ass off when Dwight went, "Oh no."

One of the top 3 episodes EVER, right along with the Sexual Harassment one from last season.

God, I wish I could get my friends to watch this.

The first episode of the new season seemed to be setting up a lot of storylines for the rest of the season, which made the episode go too fast.
It had a lot of great moments, and it was funny to see Ed Helms go nuts when Jim put his calculator in Jello, and when Dwight was pretending to cry because Jim wasn't working with him anymore. Plus, that Arrested Development style mug shot was great.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the dual-office idea could be cumbersome as the season continues. However, they pulled it off quite well, and the fact that there is an obvious chasm between the two helps heighten the different moods.

(There's also the fact that fans could say "How in the hell is there another camera crew that's exactly like the first one?" but that would be really nitpicky.)

Anyway, excellent first start. This one had me crying several times. Can't wait for more.

Yeah. I think one of my favorite parts of the episode was Ed Helms and the Jello. Though the whole episode was awesome, between the gaydar, Ed Helms, and the mugshot.

Excellent episode. It had a good mix of drama and comedy, and was easily the best half-hour episode of the show. I doubt Jim will date the chick in the new office - she doesn't seem to like him, and Jim clearly doesn't like working there due to how humorless people are, and the lack of Pam. Him gazing out the window and then looking at the empty seat next to him tole that story.

I loved the premiere. Ate up every second and was laughing out loud by myself. I rarely do that. The part when the chick at Stamford said that Jim always looks at the camera and "does this" with the Jim face impression was my second favorite part. My first favorite part?

They're going to have to work hard this season to top that!

I don't know about this premire being a top 3 episode, but It definitly was good. Im not feeling the dual office thing though. Easily the best show on television. People that don't agree haven't givin the show a chance, Faggies. Anway, thank you CC for the price error on season 2 and I cannot wait for next THURS!

Another great line is when Michael said that he was coming out, but he was coming out hetero. Looks like I am going to have to watch this season, instead of waiting for it on DVD.

Am I the only one who kinda felt sorry for Roy? I know he was a jerk and didn't deserve Pam, but I would hate to have my wedding called off by my bride to be a few days before we got married. I'm sure it would break my heart too.

You know, I think that is what makes Office so great.

It does an unbelievable job of showing a wide range of emotion for each character.

Micheal is the perfect example. He's annoying and crass 99% of the time, but that 1% of the time when he's geniunely upset and shows it outwardly, you feel incredibly sorry for him. 'Cuz you know he's just trying to be as friendly with his employees as he can, and he never wants them to be mad at him. He's so incredibly fragile on that front that when it manifests, you just sort of know.

I don't think many other shows can pull that sort of thing off. Especially comedies. Office solicits empathy and sympathy so effortlessly and subtly. Like when Pam and Jim both look at chairs next to them during meetings, and it's either empty, or Ryan shoots back "What are you looking at me for?"

I think that is one of the undersold abilities of the show. It is able to convince me that the characters are multi-dimensional.

Otherwise, no one would feel bad for Roy, but as can be plainly seen, some of us do, and I'm willing to bet the majority of the audience does at this point. And that is something that you couldn't have convinced me of at the end of last season.

I watched the entireity of Season 2 in like 2 or 3 days on DVD because of this reason... the characters are so amazingly fleshed out that you actually feel sympathy, anger, sadness, happiness right along with them.

I mean, I was pretty sad when we found out that Kevin might have had skin cancer... that was some crazy stuff, he went from being the dopey kind of slow guy to "wow, he might not even make it".

The Office is one of the very few comedies where you really care for the characters... Seinfeld was funny but I didn't really feel any attachment to any of the characters. The Office seems to be going more into a comedy / drama thing and I think it works out excellent like this.
I don't know, I honestly thought it was one of the worst episodes yet (including Season 1). Meh. Still wasn't bad, though.
if you didnt enjoy that episode then you must not be a fan of the show...only 1 show into the season and there were already a few classic scenes

I know what you mean. I felt really bad for Micheal in that episode with the "take your children to work day", when he realizes that he doesnt have any friends and he's never been in love with anyone.

I've always been a kind of on and off Office fan and I watch when I can (but enought that I know what's going on), but I don't usually make it a point to catch it.
With this episode, that's all changed.
I'm going to grab the first two seasons and watch them in their entirety and follow this new one all the way through.

the calculator in jello scene was great along with Dwight at the very end

edit: btw, just what is the "L" word?

It's on Showtime. It's about lesbians.

Girls have told me it is really about love.

No.

It's about lesbians.
Why is the mug shot so funny?
I'm trying to figure that out myself. His fiancee dumps him days before their wedding. He becomes an alcoholic and nearly kills himself in a drunk driving accident. He's arrested and covered in blood.

THAT'S COMEDY!!!

It's about both.

Also, it is a dessert topping.

i think some people are taking this too seriously...

His Fiancee dumped him came to her senses. He had that coming for the longest time since he was always inconsiderate towards her and kept putting off the wedding so in a way he is considered a so called "villain" of the show so in turn people think its funny when bad things happen to people like that...

?

I've been watching almost every episode (may've missed a few) since the pilot.

And I only started watching because I consider the original BBC "The Office" to be the greatest television series of all time (yes I went there).

I very much enjoy this show.

well, to say it was one of the worst is pretty extreme...i would probably put this past episode in the top five and wouldnt even consider it close to one of the worst (and i think many people here agree)

i dont mean any offense but a statement like that makes it seem like you dont pay attention to the show, but either way everyone is entitled to their own opinion;)

On another note, why does everyone hate the first season? Other than the pilot (which is by far the worst episode of the entire series) and the somewhat mediocre last episode, that entire season was, I'd say, as funny as anything in the second season.

I almost shot the Crystal Lite I was drinking out of my nose when Michael was talking to everyone in the little conference room and said "Did you know that gay used to mean happy? When I was growing up, it meant lame"

I also loved the part when Ed Helms was going nuts about the stapler in the jello prank and Jim is shaking his head no to the camera, like "Please don't tell him I did it". Great stuff. Can't wait for next week's episode.
