Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam?

I bought Rage during the Holiday sale. Put 4 hours into it and felt like I was forcing myself to play the entire time just about. IMO Rage is the definition of average.

You need to download the app...it then registers you to potentially be in the beta
How did you find out? I'm dying to get in.
I got home from work, doing some normal post-work stuff after grabbing some food and then randomly "INVITE FRIENDS INTO STEAM MOBILE BETA!" popped up. Figured that meant I got in and tried signing in, which worked fine. This is of course after downloading the client and attempting to sign in when it first came out to download.

Seems I can gift it to one person. Nobody should bother asking because I won't give it away to people who ask if I decide to give it to someone I don't have on my friends list already.

I have an extra code for the Steam beta as well. I know most of the people I actually would want to give this to don't have or use iOS devices or Android devices. I guess I'll just add it to my trading inventory. Might get a cheapo indie game or a slightly useful coupon, I guess.

I really liked Rage. The shooting was just good fun and it was beautiful. They weren't good at the open world, but the love that went into the setting was great. Shame about the awful plot though.

Got a game up for trade that I'm 99% sure you all have but there might be someone who doesn't:

trailerthumb_portal_01.jpg

Portal anyone? I want to trade for Peggle or another game of the same value ($9.99).

Wow, you changed your tune on that one. I remember the first few minutes you were like, "OMG FOV, WHAT DID I SPEND MY MONEY ON". :) Glad to see it worked our for you.

Were the textures good for Rage? Everyone lauded Doom 3's visual spectacle (and from a technical standpoint, it was good), but I thought the textures looked like plain, overly-reflective crap. Like all detail had been lost when they were hosed down with Vaseline. The art style really turned me off. Rage looks intriguing enough for $10, though.

The detail on the textures was lacking. The megatexturing, however, was extremely cool. In a nutshell, it allows the designers to sort of paint textures onto the level geometry, effectively eliminating the "stamped" look that other games sometimes have because of heavy reuse of textures.

FOV wasn't my problem with Rage. It was pop-in and screen-tearing. Awful, awful pop-in. To beat that, you have to go into graphical options and set the texture cache to large and, for pity's sake, also turn on vsync. I've never noticed screen-tearing until THIS game. Once I figured out to turn all of those options on the game ran wonderfully.

The textures weren't magic. You could still look at something up close and it'd still look like a mess, but just as far as everything in aggregate, it's hard to walk/drive through the world and not be impressed. The detail is great and the whole game just LOOKS good. It does not feel like a vaseline smeared mess like Doom 3. The style works.

I kinda have to agree here. My problem with Rage is it's a mashup between Borderlands and Fallout yet not taking any of the charming qualities of both games. It's like I wish this game was more than it is.

Worth noting: Kingdom of Amalur on Steam actually does not have EA listed as the publisher. In fact, nothing on the Steam version seems to mention EA at all.

Didn't Dragon Age II stop getting updates after awhile on Steam. I would be worried about KOA doing the same.

Wow, I just received Steam Mobile Access as a new tradable item in my Steam Inventory. Interesting way to distribute that ... makes me feel like I can sell it ;-p

Yo guys, possible Steam glitch ... not 100% sure on this so I'm keeping it in this thread, but the King Arthur II game that was released has a $9.99 stand alone game you can also buy (in addition to the $39.99 main game). So the way it shows up when you buy the $9.99 game is that it also lists a purchase of the main game!! I paid $9.99 and have 3 items on my account ... for the main game and add on.

TLDR - King Arthur II FULL GAME IS $9.99 if you buy the Dead Legion pack right now!!!!

* At least it appears that way to me ... so buy at your own risk, but I took the risk and I'm seeing 3 items and on the game page for the full game, it's showing I purchased it!!

Hmm, I read the full game is a 16 gb download, I'm showing around 6 gb dling now, so it may just be the 9.99 content, however the main game is still showing up as being purchased if I were to try buying the $39.99 full game ... sooo, feel free to take a gamble or not ;) ** Just to clarify, only seeing a forum key too, but seeing both the full game and 9.99 game listed under the properties DLC tab. Also odd, noticed that both the full game and 9.99 game require 12 gb ... maybe the 9.99 game needs the full game DL but locks out the additional content?! No idea, guess I'll find out in a few hours

Took your word for it, it's looking like you're right so far. Hopefully they don't fix it.

To clarify: In your library, King Arthur II shows up (I'm assuming that the standalone is included in this), and this is the only game that shows up. However, when I look at their separate store pages, it's showing that I own each of them (main game and the standalone, Dead Legions).

Thanks!

**Just a note, I'm only seeing one key, a forum key, and nothing else. Also, Steam requirements list the system req's as requiring 12 GB, my dl shows roughly 7. We'll see tomorrow. Worth the gamble to me. =P

Ive never preordered anything on steam I dont think. If I preorder Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning right now will I be charged right away or on feb 7th? I dont have the money right now but want to preorder it for the hats and free dlc quest.

i looked up your game

those are all the things that come with king arthur ii: legions

and here's regular king arthur ii
BH9Hd.png

it's slightly different. i think there's a good chance it could be a glitch but idk. gl guys.

one is _PROLOGUE the other is _MAIN so prolly just a prologue for legions, and not the full game.

Last edited by a moderator:
Yep, just checked it out and it appears that the prologue does download the main game but not the files needed to actually play the main campaign. The glitch is that once you buy the prologue, steam says that you've purchased the rest of the game and labels it as such on your account. Obviously they'll have to fix it, otherwise anyone who buys the prologue can't buy the main game.

Sorry folks, false alarm on getting the main game, looks like the glitch isn't in our favor but on the steam system side.
Didn't Dragon Age II stop getting updates after awhile on Steam. I would be worried about KOA doing the same.
KOA is a EA partners game. They don't have nearly the same amount of control over partner games as they do with games they fully own.
Didn't Dragon Age II stop getting updates after awhile on Steam. I would be worried about KOA doing the same.
As corpekata said, since DA II was Bioware and EA owns them, they have more control. EA is only publishing for 38 on KoA, so it's basically up to 38 to do whatever regarding updates.

Anyone have any thoughts on this one? I've got a 50% off coupon..wondering if its worth a buck and change.

As per the KOA-Steam discussion, if you're the kind of person that's all about those little freebie items like Bioware promotes, the items for buying Amalur and playing its demo that you get in ME3 I believe are only distributed through Origin.

No they are not Origin-exclusive.The game is linked to your EA account. I have the ME3 demo items from playing the Steam version.

It's basically a poor-man's Katamari, which I'd never played until after I'd bought TWEOTW.

If you haven't played Katamari and it looks like fun to roll over object, picking them up, making yourself an ever-increasing larger ball (and it is fun), then you'll have a good time. The graphics are rather crude, but effective enough.

I've played it for 5 hours and have basically done everything on it that is worthwhile to do. I am keeping it in my Library because it's fun to sit down and play a level or two from time to time and there's no other game (of which I'm aware) on Steam that is similar.

I'll take it if you don't mind... I think my steam ID is georox

I'm just going to buy it at the normal discount actually.

What are the chances of the witcher 2 going on sale before the coupons expire? I can get one for $24 using a 40% off coupon and I was wondering if I should wait for a better price.

Unlikely. The Enhanced edition is supposed to be released in April along with the 360 version so I'd bet it will go on sale then to promote the update. While it could be on sale before that I kind of doubt it.

Traded a bunch of my useless coupons for one of those Witcher coupons. I'll admit it is probably a long shot but you never know.

I can easily recommend The Wonderful End of the World. Yes, it's a poor man's Katamari. But still, how many opportunities are there to play something like Katamari? I found it enjoyable it its own way, and many of the level designs are pretty creative. One is basically a love letter to retro gaming.

I grabbed it for a bunk and change with coupon. Its sitting in my inventory...I'm still debating.

where will you sleep? :p

Feeling dumb. I had a 50% coupon for The Wonderful End of the World that I didn't use yesterday. Shows you what happens when you get lazy with these threads/checking steam. Oh well, maybe it will go on sale again in the next month (probably not.)

That happened to me with Dead Space 2 on Amazon and the $5 promotional code. (I didn't know I had received one.) When the difference is $5 or below, I don't consider that a huge loss.

Speaking of the coupons, I was quite delighted to see that mine had expired. For now, my Inventory is cleansed of the coupon infestation.

I've also learned this the hard way.

I know most people will pass off the daily deal, but I have to say, those games look pretty appealing. I don't know if I could power through the 500 page manual that comes with, but having seen some videos of the DCS games, it looks pretty badass. I mean, that's as close as you'll come to a true simulation.

Gonna wait for at least 75% off. ;)

I think he was speaking of the Amazon coupon. Either way, I don't think the Amazon coupons have expired yet either.

Any chance Devil May Cry 4 will go on sale anytime soon? I'm so tired of RPG games and their dull combat (COUGH COUGH) that I need a heavy dose of awesome sauce for the next months. I've read it is a pretty good port, and I should avoid DMC3SE at all costs too.

Well, thanks!

That new game Kingdoms of Amalur is being hyped as an RPG with good combat, if you weren't aware.

It's Capcom. They've never been good at Steam sales really, and even when they do have sales they're pretty mediocre ones generally. I think their attitude and understanding can be summed up by the Xmas event. One of the cheevo/coal items was Devil May Cry 3, a game they did not even bother to discount at all during the sale.

Okay then, I guess I'll just go for it!
Oh and btw, I don't think you can categorize it as "bad attitude and understanding" since they are owners of the game, and it's THEIR decision to put it on sale or not.

I don't see people complaining about Trine 2 not being on sale at least for 25% off and probably stay like that until Summer deals, when they'll discount a mighty 33% off!! (with luck).

Trine 2 is not a seven year old (or 4 year old, in DMC4's case) game. That comparison makes no sense.

And just because they own the game does not somehow confer an understanding of anything. It's their right, yes, but that's not remotely related to what I was talking about. Their decisions about how they promote and discount are often bad, and owning the trademark does not excuse a thing.
