Guess who's desroying the market?

jDLE6fI.png
That's why in playing the WoW Auction House I did it on an unknown banker toon. Ohh some of the tells I used to get... =D

In my 200+ Steam library, Super Meat Boy is the first game with cards they added that I actually have, haha,

But when I try to launch it, I get a "Fatal Error". Anyone have any idea how to fix this? Any solution from googling doesn't seem to help
When I started it up I got a server connection error screen but I was able to hit enter to continue. Do you have this option or did the game just completely die?
It dies completely. The screen goes white and the "fatal error" pops up.
Try (in steam library) right click on SMB and verify files.

So is anyone actually playing Anodyne? I just spent a good hour or so with it, and am really enjoying it. It's very 2D legend of zelda-ish, but with a really weird setting and story. I think anyone who is a fan of Link to the Past should really give it a look :)

Does running multiple games at once mess with the card drop rate? Seems like I get them faster when I am doing one game at a time.
Probably. I've started farming with Anodyne and Super Meat Boy, get 2 drops by now, 1 from each game, while my roommate, who started farming 10-15mins later than me, but only SMB, already got all 3 drops.
Yeah I'm pretty sure it does screw with the drop rate. For the last set of games, I got 1 drop in Trine 2 and no drops from any other games for hours. For the new set of games, I got 1 drop from Anodyne and it took about an 1 1/2 hours to get my next drop.. and now I'm getting no drops. I think after you get your first drop from running multiple games, it takes a lot longer to get more drops when running multiple games, even if you go back to running a single game afterward. There seems to be a cooldown period.

Or I could just be making this up.
I'd say this is almost definitely the case. Last week I was playing FTL while running Monster Loves You in the background for drops. I got one drop immediately, then nothing for the next two hours. Finally I quit FTL and MLY resumed dropping the remaining cards at a much more typical rate.

What? So if I'm level 10 I can't get foils anymore?

SHOULD! have bought the Humble Bundle with Brutal Legend. But I owned everything but Brutal Legend I believe. Debating on grabbing it from Amazon.

Right click on it, go to properties, local files tab, and select "verify integrity of local game cache".

It will probably find some bad files (I had a TON) and re-download them.

I had the error as well, but was able to fix it that way.

I played through the demo awhile back. I completely agree with your words on it, and I do need to get back to it.

A Link to the Past is one of my favorite games of all time. I really just couldn't get into Anodyne. It wasn't the graphics so much as the gameplay in general. To me it didn't seem like it had a lot of depth. I guess I expect a lot for the $1 I paid for it. :)

+1 for LttP - in my top 10-15 of all time, easily.  I didn't give Anodyne a fair shot, I may try again.

A new humble bundle with two games on my wishlist and cards were added to three games I have? Awesome!

I played it a couple months ago. I really liked the old-school adventure/RPG gameboy gameplay. The story is another matter. I just didn't get it. I really had no idea what was going on. It felt like every person you talked to, every area you visited was suppose to symbolize something about the subconscious or some nonsense. To use Mooby's favorite phrase (and I really hate it), it was "2deep4me."

Maybe LttP is too high a comparison. I agree the story is really out there, but I'm still enjoying it and think it adds to the atmosphere. To each their own I suppose, but like I said I'm still very early on. Maybe my opinion will change as I get further on, but if you already own the game I think you should at least play it while waiting for drops. That is one thing I really love about these cards, is that they make me play games from my backlog that would have otherwise sat collecting digital dust for a while. Also, free moneyz

On an unrelated note, I'm sure someone has looked into it by now, so could anyone tell me how much Go Home Dinosaurs will cost after cards?

And I should have picked up the Serious Sam pack while it was under $4. This new card economy is having some really interesting repercussions. I find myself actually regretting not picking up all those indie bundles in the past that would clog my account with games I'd never play, just on the off chance that they'll have cardzzzzzzz...

I think trying to casually compare a random indie to game to A Link to the Past is playing with fire... or any of the 2D Zelda games for that matter.

yeah totally agree with this, I played the first two hours of Anodyne and the dungeons are very straight forward, hardly any exploration is needed, the boss fights are simple and the game is not too much of a challenge since there are save points scattered all over the game. Also, your main weapon is a broom, the game doesn't give you better or any new weapons to use (at least from what I played so far) not that you really them since the enemies are really easy to beat.

Comparing to LTTP is one thing. But if he compared it to the Oracle games on GBC then we'd have some problems.

While my time with the demo did lack the nostalgia (and I haven't played LTTP in a long time) it had the similar combat used by any top down ARPG like Zelda/Ys. The story was way out there and I don't remember much of it at all. I'll formulate a real opinion sometime, but it was fun.

I agree with you in theory. But I'm also afraid of looking at my childhood games with rose coloured glasses. If you can play a classic objectively without any feelings of nostalgia and still compare it comparatively with today's games, good on ya.

Actually, I did a playthrough of LTTP about 2 weeks ago. Like I said - one of my favorites. Pre-ordered the sequel on the 3DS the day it was announced.

Well, I not sure when you mean by objectively... but I've done my share of 80s-era retrogaming (which I came, I saw, I played) in the mid-late nineties (on original hardware) and a lot in 2000-2001 (enabled by the emu scene). And a bit more here and there. Largely stuff that I had seen/played then but some stuff new to me as well. I can easily play and enjoy the better done older titles. I felt during the 90s that 3D and multimedia was badly harming game design, I have a low tolerance for 3D (and 2.5D) games before the PS2 era (I76, Carmageddon, & System Shock not withstanding).

For a truely huge open world RPG, try DeathLord (C64/Apple ][ -- use AppleWin... Deathlord requires nibblized disk image support)... I'm still not done with that one. Also, bust out the pen and paper, a lot of dungeons you're not going to solve without mapping.

Sure some things seem kinda simplistic nowdays, say Double Dragon, but they often have charm.

I played through a couple weeks ago. I liked it, although parts felt really unfinished and I often found the controls frustrating. I'll probably go back to 100% the side-quests once I've had a break. It is Zelda-ish, but I think the similarities are kind of superficial. Before anyone buys it on that comparison: its plot and mechanics are less sophisticated than the OG Gameboy Zelda games.

I really like the music, mood, and environments, but the plot never really coalesced in a meaningful way, and a lot of the quests were kind of arbitrary.

I guess I feel a little let down because it seems like with a little more spit-and-polish it could have been a *really* great game. As it stands, I'm still looking for a game that can satisfy that Link to the Past hunger.

Awesome, I was able to complete my Meatboy card set for 49 cents total.

Does anyone want a 33% off Rush Bros coupon?
Don't you hate useless coupons? I've got a few of them sitting in my inventory not worth much to me. I've been able to trade off some for cards.
I don't really expect anything from coupons so I assume they'll be useless. It still sucks, but it's not disappointing.

At least coupons disappear after they are no longer valid. I have two AirMech 2 [NO LONGER VALID] gifts on my inventory that I can't get rid of.
There's a Steam user who will accept whatever random junk you want to get rid of. I think I found them by googling how to get rid of stuff in your inventory.

Man, I could not agree with you more! Especially about the low tolerance for early 3D graphics. Don't get me wrong, I was as blown away as the next guy when I installed my first Voodoo 1 to play glQuake. But at that point 2D graphics were already very advanced, and 3D, especially on PC, generally looked like shit for years and years. It irritated me how willing people were to regress so far back artistically to advance the technology.

Also, and although I might be slightly biased here, I think it's worth mentioning that the limited technology of the 80s seemed to allow game designers to not spread their resources thin like we see so often today, and create far more finished, polished, and inventive products. I'm not a programmer or historian so I don't actually know how much more work it is to create a game now than then, but I feel the restrictions of the medium 20-30 years ago allowed for more creativity in some ways, more focus.

I do love the era that we've reached now, though! Lots of brilliant games both 2D and 3D, indie developers to shake up the market and try new things, and best of all, AAA titles are like 35 cents. :whee: :bouncy: \:D/

Sweet. I have Anodyne, Brutal Legend, and Super Meat Boy. Got Brutal Legend running now. Crafting seems pretty pointless lately. Seems good to make money while the getting is good.

I managed to sell my Dinosaurs Go Home! cards for $1.95 (the first one accounting for nearly half that amount, the following 3 getting less than $.40 each) which is pretty cool with me. I'm farming the rest of the games now (as others have said doing multiple games at the same time via SAM doesn't really seem to be working) and I'll be similarly happy to take whatever little amount I can get for them.

I really wanted those cards, but I'm grateful that my mother wouldn't feed me sugary breakfast cereals.
You weren't missing much - they were just part of the outer box on the back. You had to cut them out, meaning they were totally "uncool" and impossible to trade with your friends.

Well after playing some more of Anodyne, I feel like my previous statement was rather off. I guess I was expecting the gameplay and story to evolve into something meaningful, as it does in almost all games of this nature, but at almost 3 hours in that is definitely not the case. It isn't really bad per say, but it does absolutely nothing new, and some of the levels are really annoying and require a lot of tedious backtracking. I still plan to finish it, as I'm a ways in and I'd like to write a full review, but right for those only mildly interested you might be better off just selling the cards and not bothering. Those on the fence, I would definitely not recommend it for more than $1. It is bundle fodder to the full extent of the word

I remember when this came out and can still remember what it tasted like. Best. Cereal. Ever.
+1 to this. Does that make us old? :)

Just wanted to say thanks for all the help in getting Meat Boy to run!

Also I'm still just as bad at it as I was on the 360
But you're now bad at 60 fps =D (yeah... I havent' pushed hard enough to make it past the boss level in the 1st world)

I know this is off topic since it isn't about cards but looking for two slots for Mystara 4-pack. $11.25 each, Amazon or Paypal.
Mr Ninja Squirrel... you need to fix the thread title to clearly read "Steam Trading Card Thread"... otherwise we get crazytalk about buying games with no regard to their current or future card situation...

Someone should start a trading card thread just for the hell of it.
Why split the tribe? Not like it's disrupting hot steamy sales action... and any steam sale talk is going to wind up at card talk anyway. ;)

Back on topic, Gabe got me. Just spent .08 cents on the Ultra Meat Man background. I hated giving Steam the penny commission, but damn is that meat man so sexy.

That sounds NSFW...

GabeN is slowly rubbing your penny all over himself.

Opinions: Should I plug $40 into Steam Wallet for the upcoming Summer Sale or GamersGate Blue Coins for... umm... their Summer Sale I guess (I have the 20% comp discount).  Without getting into a bunch of explanation, just assume I'm doing one or the other and things like "Just keep it as cash" isn't an option.

I like Gamersgate better... plus you could always convert it back on GG with the 20% discount by buying games for people without the discount.

Back on topic, my steam looks like this:

Totally not cool since it blocks out my cool ultra meat man. Anyone have any clue what's wrong?
