The Video Game Soundtrack Deals Thread (OP Revamped 04/28/16)

14 (100%)
Welcome to CAG's general deals thread for video game soundtracks. The reason for this thread's existence are: 1) VGM collecting can be very expensive, since most physical soundtracks come in the form of Japanese imports, and 2) good deals can be had if one looks hard enough.

Shops listings include basic info, pros and cons, and currently ongoing deals (if any). Major deals will be listed in the updates toward the top of this post. Unless otherwise noted, all prices are in US dollars or Japanese yen. I'll do my best to keep this updated on a regular basis, and hope that my fellow CAGs can help out :)

Thread Updates:
04/28/16: I've gone ahead and reformatted the thread, as I'd thought about doing late last year. The biggest change is that specific deals and sales are now noted in the section below called "Major New Sales/Deals". Shop listings will still include links to sale/clearance sections, but not individual albums. I might still tweak the formatting here and there. Anyway, please let me know what you think.

Other changes for this update: iam8bit and Laced Records have been added to the Official Shops, and some other shops have had their permanent sale/deal sections added (, CDJapan, DeepDiscount, Blizzard Gear, etc.).

Major New Sales/Deals (last updated 04/28/16):
- The Square Enix Online Store is having a big spring sale until May 8th, which includes a handful of CDs at 20% off.
- CDJapan is offering 10% extra points on all released CDs until May 5th.

Albums of the Update:
- The Clock Tower series got a 4-CD 20th anniversary sound collection late last year, in both standard and limited editions.
- For their own 20th anniversary, the original Pokemon Red and Green finally have a Super Music Collection.
- Continuing on this theme, a "Tales of..." series orchestral album came out last month for its 20th.
- As is typical for Blizzard collector's editions, the one for Overwatch will include an OST.
- Joining Capcom's other "Sound Box" releases is one for the Mega Man Battle Network series. This set is out on June 15th.
- Currently playing while I work on this update: the PixelJunk Eden OST (via Steam).

Old updates:
01/24/15: Big updates to,,, and Play-Asia today. Of particular note is the addition of a listing of albums that are free to stream if you have Amazon Prime; see the deals section for those. There's some smaller updates here and there, plus some updated links.

By the way, the dollar-to-yen exchange rate continues to be really, really good, so if you're considering importing, now's a great time to do it!

Albums of the Update:
- According to some shop listings, Nobuo Uematsu has a new release out on March 4th. Thing is, it doesn't have a title yet, and not much is known about it in general.
- Also coming out that day is the Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance Original Soundtrack. This year marks the game's tenth anniversary, so better late than never for the full OST to come out, I guess. By the way, Radiant Dawn's OST goes on sale the same day.
- The third "Distant Worlds" Final Fantasy orchestral album came out just a few days ago. This is the Japanese release; no word yet on a US version.
- Ace Attorney is seeing yet another release: Gyakuten Saiban Meets Again: Orchestra & Jazz. This is a standard release compilation of the (hard-to-find) orchestra and jazz arrange albums, for a budget price.
- Hotline Miami 2 is getting a pricy collector's edition vinyl soundtrack. No word on a release date, AFAIK, but this might already be the best-looking game OST of the year.

VGM - Video Game Music.
OST - Original Sound Track. A variation is OSV, which is short for "Original Sound Version".
Arrange album - Game music albums that are not OSTs, but rerecordings or remixes of game music. Square Enix's "Piano Collections" albums and live concert recordings fit in this category.
First Press - Refers to an edition of a soundtrack (or a bonus that comes with it) that is only available with the first print run. Many such soundtracks have the same MSRP as "normal" editions.
Doujin - A Japanese term for independantly made and produced media items, including games (and those games' soundtracks) and fan works such as game remix albums.
Obi - The cardstock piece that wraps around the spine of most Japanese CDs. Used CDs that are missing the obi (if there was one originally) will usually be cheaper, but are not considered "complete". Often machine-translated as "band".

SAL - Surface Air Lift. Economy airmail, with no tracking or insurance (though some shops offer "Registered SAL", which includes tracking and limited insurance). Usually the cheapest international shipping available from Japan; can take anywhere from ten days to six weeks.
EMS - Express Mail Service. What it says. The fastest and priciest international postal shipping from Japan, it usually takes between 3-5 days. Always includes tracking and insurance. Highly recommended for large and/or expensive orders.
Proxy service - A type of shopping service international buyers use to get items that are only sold locally. There are also forwarding services in which an international buyer places the order themselves and has it shipped to a local address, from which it's forwarded to said buyer.

How to Find Game Music on Japanese-Language Sites (when you don't know Japanese):
Copy and paste either the title (in kanji) or the catalog number of an album into the search bar, either at the specific site you're searching, or through Google. VGMdb is a good reference for both types of information.

Free and Bonus Game OSTs:
Unfortunately, the lists for these soundtracks have been lost during the transition to CAG 3.0, and I foolishly did not think to save them beforehand. Therefore, I have begun recompiling both lists here from memory, plus there are some new listings as well. As always, suggestions are appreciated!

If I'm paying for a digital soundtrack I want it in lossless. Phooey.
While I am not sure the code works, Sumthing does have flac versions of some albums through (On the right pick "Show 500" to display all of their albums, I just realized there is more and the stupid site layout doesn't have "pages").

They have Bionic Comando 2, the recent Fantasia, and even MM25: Mega Man Rocks. The common price seems to be $9.00, which is cheaper then importing some of the stuff like "We are rock-men."

The only other downside is that they really don't have their full catalog on there, The Wonderful 101 is one example.

Game Music Bundle 8 is up.

$1 level OSTs:
- The Sailor's Dream
- Zombies/Corporate Lifestyle Simulator
- Gods Will Be Watching
- Monsters Ate My Birthday Cake
- Super Time Force

$10 level OSTs (all of the above, plus):
- Gods Will Be Watching (Alternative Soundtrack)
- Freedom Planet
- Immerse
- Lovely Planet
- The Novelist
- FTL: Advanced Edition
- Halfway
- Wanderlust Adventures
- Spell Team Death Match
- Monarch: Heroes of a New Age
- Majestic Nights Volume One: All Lies On You
- Izakaya Omen
- Dreamfall Chapters Reborn
- Hack 'n' Slash
I only learned today that the Skies of Arcadia Original Soundtrack has been on iTunes since late November 2014 (it's also at Amazon if your prefer that).

The original CD version of the Eternal Arcadia/Skies of Arcadia OST has been one of the most sought-after game soundtracks out there for at least a decade, and it commands a high price on the after-market. This new digital release was an instant must-have for me, and I'm sure it is (or will be) for others. Just wanted to spread the word :)

Play-Asia's doing their Annual Clearance Sale again. Here's all the in-stock soundtracks on sale (check "discount only" if it isn't already marked); some good stuff in there!
It's worth noting that some items have very limited quantities. Among a couple other things, I just got their last copies of the Final Fantasy Tactics A2 and beatmania IIDX 21 Spada soundtracks.

Saw something neat on AmiAmi this morning: a brand-new chiptune album that comes in the form of a Famicom cartridge. It contains new tunes by a handful of composers, several of whom worked on 8-bit games back in the day. It's due out in January and AmiAmi is taking preorders with a decent discount attached -

Also, while I'm here, I'm thinking about changing up the OP a bit. It's very time-consuming to list new, individual deals (like those for and, so what I'm thinking of doing is focusing more on new/upcoming releases while still pointing out where the deal sections are on sites (without necessarily listing the specific albums for sale). The artist/album listings for iTunes, Bandcamp, etc. would remain and be updated as necessary, as would the lists of free and bundled-with-a-game soundtracks. I would also continue to list charity bundles and other large-scale game music sales.

This way, I'd be able to keep the OP up-to-date with greater frequency. However, if people like the individual deals and want them to stick around, I'll keep those around as usual, with the caveat that I'll continue to update those listings only once or twice a year due to the amount of time it takes to find the deals and edit them in. What does everyone else think?

There's a decent number of game music CDs at 20% off in the Square Enix Online Store's current sale -

Also, CDJapan is offering 10% extra points on all released CDs -
I've been recently been building a collection of CDs lately and saw that the SE store has Bravely Second's complete Soundtrack. Nice. Also you can get the Final Fantasy X/X-2 Soundtrack for $40 with the FFX/X-2 Collector's Edition. Even nicer. Thanks man! :D

OP UPDATED! This is a major change from how things have been done in the past, so please let me know if you have any thoughts and/or suggestions :)
Do u know any other Music CD sites? Especially selling Chinese/Hong Kong albums?
YesAsia and Play-Asia, both mentioned in the OP, are based in Hong Kong and carry official Chinese/Hong Kong releases.

Many cheap Chinese/Hong Kong game music CDs are actually bootlegs of Japanese CDs. Even if it wasn't against CAG rules, I would never list sites that obviously sell such items here.

It's possible there's some good sites in Chinese only that sell game music, but I don't know what they are (and I doubt they'd ship overseas, though there's probably Chinese proxies out there) ^^; YesAsia is the biggest and most comprehensive Chinese/Hong Kong media shop that I know of that has an English site.

CDJapan is having one of their double-points promos again, this time until March 30th. Just placed an order, mainly since what I wanted worked out to be a bit cheaper than with the points factored in.

They're also having a Spring Clearance Sale until March 30th. There isn't much that's interesting as far as game music goes, though.

MONDO is releasing a vinyl for the Stardew Valley soundtrack this Wednesday, 6/28, at 12 CST. It's limited to 600 copies.

Stardew Valley - Original Video Game Soundtrack 2XLP. Music by ConcernedApe. Artwork by Kari Fry. Pressed on Tri-Striped Vinyl. Limited to 600 Copies Worldwide. $35

Our friends at Gamer's Edition are proud to present a very special limited vinyl pressing of the soundtrack to ConcernedApe's hit indie farming game, STARDEW VALLEY.

Also composed by ConcernedApe, the music in the game ranges across the seasons, from rich lush melodies to beautiful glassy synth pieces. Mastered for vinyl with care at KMJ Studios, this two-disc edition includes music from each season in the game across each side. The high-quality gatefold jacket features all-new artwork by Kari Fry. This first pressing is on double tri-striped vinyl and is limited to 600 copies worldwide.

Awesome info. I will definitely try to get one for myself. How do you know its 12 CST? I cannot confirm that anywhere. Thank you so much for the heads up on this one!

No problem, almost didn't share because I didn't think it was thread worthy. But then I figured there was probably already a master thread for video game soundtracks, and sure enough I was right.

But here:

It's in the very last sentence of the first paragraph.

As usual, all new releases go on sale at NOON (CST) on Wednesday.
More video game vinyl coming out, and it's a 7" single this time: "Eyes on Me" from Final Fantasy VIII, performed by Faye Wong. CDJapan's currently taking preorders for this limited edition, which costs 1900 yen; other import shops will likely carry it as well.

ETA: Also at CDJ, a game music sale! It's only six albums, but they're good ones; all are 15% off until March 30, 2018:
- Zelda 30th Anniversary Concert - 2550 yen
- Zelda 30th Anniversary Music Collection - 2550 yen
- 30th Anniversary Super Mario Bros. Music - 2550 yen
- 8BIT Kirakira Star Night -RIKI Collection- - 1574 yen

any of u guys buy video game vinyls? im starting to collect those.
The only time I've given it any serious thought is when orders for a limited-edition Out Run vinyl were being taken. Out Run's soundtrack is my favorite of all time, but unfortunately, I ended up missing out on that one.

Other than that, I'm already collecting too many types of things and don't need records taking up additional space, especially when I don't even own a record player.

I keep forgetting about this shop, but I'll add it to the OP the next time it gets updated (whenever that'll be): Their game music section is here.

I've ordered from them just once before-- via their Amazon storefront-- and was pretty happy with both the price and shipping. They're worth checking out.
