So, anyone doing anything fun for the 1 year anniversary of the Wii on Monday? 52 weeks ago right now (Saturday night) I was anxiously awaiting going to pick my system up at Gamestop. Good night--too bad I had a PACKED Sunday that made doing much with the system on Saturday night / early Sunday impossible.

Some friends and I were talking about having a big Wii Sports party just for fun. A few beers and Tennis? Thank goodness for improved wrist straps and silicone jackets!

haha actually now that I think about it we werent even really dating at the time. Im not sure how I conned my then friend into camping over night at walmart with me.
 
I remember being the first one walking out of EB with a Wii that night. Good times. Too bad I will be holed up in my room working from now until Tuesday night.

I will likely be thinking about playing Mario Galaxy when the Wii turns one.

Just played a ton of SMG and went all ADD arranging my VC channels.

Let's see. It's about 12:45 AM EST, so that means one year, 6 hours, and 45 minutes ago I was just going to sit in front of Target and wait 13 long, cold hours to claim my Wii.

Don't have many VC games yet, but I got all my game-related channels in the first and second row, somewhat useful stuff on the rest of the first page, and crap I don't ever touch on the second.
 
I remember getting mine at launch thanks to a lovely pre-order and not playing for a week or so because I needed an rf modular. I got so anxious waiting for the shipment that I packed up my Wii and took it over to my friend Andrews place almost an hour away. Andrew smokes quite a bit (of the good shit homies :). Suffice to say my first time playing my Wii was awesome.
 
.... and it's been the most fucked up year of my life

Nes= Early childhood
Genesis= early teens
Dreamcast= Highschool
Xbox = Late high school
Gamecube = first few years of my last relationship
Wii = End of last (6 year) relationship...and the beginning of my entire life changing
 
I promised not to buy any games until christmas ( still playing a couple of zelda titles, and backlogging through my wii/ds games). I'm going to buy 5000 wii points, and buying some nostalgic pleasure. DK country will be mine!
 
A year ago I waited 8 hours on line for the Nintendo World Store launch with hundreds of other people. Luckily everyone in line had a DS and there was tons of multiplayer gaming going on with every game imaginable.

This year I think I'll celebrate by sleeping for 8 hours.
 
I left my apartment at 6AM thinking it wouldn't be too hard to find a line that isn't full-- I ended up running to every store in the area for about 2 hours, until I decided to stop at one obscure Shopko store, where I was the last guy in line to get one.

Picked it up with Zelda and Trauma Center. I thoroughly enjoyed both, but got rid of my wii within a few months due to a lack of games....


edit: but the good games have accumulated recently and I'm going to get a new one when Brawl comes out.
 
My November 19th was pretty uneventful last year... woke up at 10am to go grab my EB preorder. The waiting was done a few weeks earlier, taking the morning off work to park in front of the store from 5-10am. But it's been a fairly good year, already enjoying it more than I did the GameCube.

I will be celebrating the anniversary by buying more games shortly thereafter - hopefully on Wednesday when TRU gets Trauma Center in. Maybe on the 19th I'll finally download SMB3.
 
I did my grocery shopping and laughed at the weirdo's waiting in line for their Wii's at Meijer. Why on earth people line up for mass produced electronics, or anything else for that metter, is beyond me. I mean, I can understand waiting in line for great BF deals, but for a game console? You people need a better life.
 
I remember going out to TRU, Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, and an EB Games around midnight to see if there was a short enough line for me to wait at.

Needless to say, no, there weren't even though it was freezing outside.

So I came back and slept in my nice, warm, comfy bed and didn't get a Wii until 4 months later.:p

So it's okay to be a consumer whore the day after Thanksgiving, but not any other time? :roll:

Funny thing is waiting in line got me two Wiis, one of which I sold on eBay for the remarkable price of $630.
 
i was at home sleeping and getting ready for class. I tried to reserve one but my stupid ass didnt..when i had all the time in the world too..oh well got mine in August and havent regretted it ever since. SMG is killing me and now i got Fire emblem...geez good deals just add to backlog..
 
I just picked one up this morning, my local TRU got about 100 in, got there about 1/2 hour early and had about 5 people infront of me, all atleast about 10-20 years older than me (im 20).
 
As Cheapassgamer.com's biggest Wii proponent, I thought it only fitting that I take a moment or two to post in this thread. Yes, it has been a glorious year, and it all started early that unseasonably cold October morning, linesitting outside of Gamestop for just three hours for my preorder. Those weeks leading up to Launch Day seemed to be a hundred times the duration of this fun-and-quality-title-filled year!! But the wait and the mocking we forward-thinkers endured for waiting for a preorder were obviously worth it!

My faith in the console never wavered, and I'm so glad to see so many people 'coming around' twelve months later, even if it took Metroid Prime and Super Mario Galaxy and...uh...well, it's just good to see everyone seeing the light!

Anyway HAPPY BIRTHDAY WII!!!

I didnt wait in the cold but I did spent about half my minutes bugging the crap out of retail vid. game store's employees asking "Did you get a wii yet?" "Did you get a wii yet?" "Did you get a wii yet?"

I got mine the tuesday after launch so was pretty happy with it. THis year I:

1. Beat RE4 Wii edition (Thanks Ikohn4ever)
2. Beat Corruption
3. Beat Zelda TP
4. Beat Most of Super Paper Mario
5. played half of Galaxy,
6. played a good bit of Wii Sports and Wii play.
7. checked out the first 5 minutes of Marvel Ulitmate Alliance
8. played a season or two of madden 07 (got 08 on 360)
9. Still have Red Steel on the shelf untouched.


It's been a good year; next year will be even better I HOPE!
 
The Wii release was a very hectic time. My wife's grandfather passed away just before the system came out and we needed to go out of state for the funeral. I picked up my pre-ordered system from Gamestop at midnight and we were on the road that morning.
