The Wire: The Complete Series $70.99 - Amazon

I want to watch this show (and have tried to watch a few episodes in the past), but the SD picture just turns me off so much.

I missed this the last time it came up. Glad I was able to snag it this time. Had enough credit from trading in some games and surveys. Can't wait to check this out.

While I'm not denying that I (may) have issues, I don't think I'm the only person who shies away from watching programming in SD.

The $20 promo from Battlefield 3 knocked this down to $50.99 for me! I consider that a steal!

My TV show backlog is kinda big so hopefully I can find time to watch this before the summer.

That's nice that you feel comforted by other people who have issues. The Wire is one of the greatest TV shows ever made, refusing to get into it because it's not teh OMGZ 1080Peez Blu-rayz is just stupid as hell. Kids these days...

The Wire has never aired in HD. Never watch this show or any television older than ten years and miss out forever.

The 4:3 aspect ratio I find far more annoying than lack of HD, but that wouldn't stop me from picking it up, lack of funds(too many other things higher on my "Must buy" list as well) is the only thing holding me back from this.

additionally, not directed at you specifically, but the show was not even creatively framed on a widescreen ratio, but was designed and shot intentionally in a 4:3 ratio. as such, any widescreen release - were it to ever come out (thought it will never happen) would both include the blocking out of the image through matting and a bastardization of the creators' vision.

Just because something was never broadcast in HD (and I'm well aware the Wire wasn't originally), doesn't mean they can't release it in HD. It all depends on the original source material (which in this case is 35mm film) as to what a company can do with the video.

As an aside, there are very few shows older than 10 years that I have yet to see that I am interested in seeing.

I don't think I ever said I refused to watch the show (considering I have actually seen a few episodes I know I haven't refused to get into it; I've just not bought the set and only watched some in syndication), and I really don't think you need to resort to "leet" speak in an attempt to mock me. It's far easier to do than making an over-generalization about my opinions, not to mention 1080p isn't the only HD resolution, nor is blu-ray the only HD delivery method. Elders these days...:)

The aspect ratio doesn't bother me, just like 2.35:1 presentations don't bother me.

Bought this the last go around on Amazon for about $72.99 I think. It's been unwrapped to check the discs but haven't watched any of them...hah. But soon.

It's been airing in HD on the Audience Network. I've been watching it on there.
