I dunno, sometimes i really feel its time to move on. That its time to get a new hobby. LIke i spent so much of my time with video games and its time to try somethin new. Recently ive been getting back into playing guitar and skateboarding. Im thinkin of selling my xbox, GCN, and PS2. From there i was going to take all of my money that i get from it and put it in savings and keep it for a rainy day. The only gaming thing i was going to keep was a GBA SP just for something on the go. Well i write this to get your opinions on the matter. Im a 19 year old who has been a gaming addict for 12 years. Should i sell everything of gaming i have? and please no comments like yes and sell it to me for a dollar and crap likle that. Thanks for your time.

got a job or at college or what?

i got a job at Subway, buy tons of cheap games, and have money left over. well, more than subway, but if you're in college, concentrate on college. i just graduated from high school, and i migh work in college. i don't know.

Eh, I'd recommend a hiatus rather than a full blow-out of your inventory. If that works out well, possibly look in to selling the items.

Yes - And Sell it to me for a dollar.

...No, you'll regret it potentially/eventually. Think of it this way... it's paid for. The only thing it costs you is space. Selling games typically gets you crap return so why not save it for a bit of retro gaming fun that hits us all every now and then. Plus, some titles escalate in value (Puzzle Fighter, SF3:TI, Suikoden, FF3, Tengen Tetris!!!!).

If you really feel like doing, by all means sell them. But I suggest at least keeping the games you really like. You never know when the urge to play that certain game comes up, and you don't want to be caught having to buy it again. Just sell the stuff you know you won't want to play again later.

NO!

Do not sell your stuff.

You WILL regret it.

Just put the stuff away, somewhere, where it won't get wet, overheated, damaged, or heavily dusted.

In the future, those games, will/may be worth much more than you think.
I guarantee it.

The supposed savings, will be gaining .4%. Beleive me, It's not worth it.

Anyone in a trading community, will tell you to sell. Only because they want your deals.

Go skateboard, play the guitar, and anything else you wish to do.

What do you think videogames are for?? They are for playing. If you've obsessed over them, for 12 years, you'll just have to take it down a notch.

Tony Hawk, plays his games, all the time. Professional football players, always chill out, and play Madden. Tons of bands, and band members, play games.

Just do what they do.

Enjoy your life, and when you come home, totally wrecked, from skating, sit back, and pop in your favorite game.

At least try an alternative, before doing something drastic, and possibly financially devastating.

Some people move on. My directive wasn't to get him to offer a trade list so I could take advantage. This is one of the reasons my advice suits best : I told him to take a break, see if that's what he really wants. I could never dream of selling all of my stuff for a new hobby, but believe it or not, as I said above, some people do move on.

You also state that the games could become valuble - keep in mind the gaming age we're in. There aren't a whole lot of games that increase in value. He likely has many newer games and by holding out, as you suggest, any value attained through the oddity that is a valuble title will be lost by depreciation of current titles, including consoles.

If you really feel that way i suggest only keeping the bare minimum. Maybe only one of the current systems, whichever one interests you most.

actully id say this is the best time to get out of gaming.

you can get rid of your ps2 and xbox for about 100 each, in a 3 years i would be shocked if you ould get 50 for them

the cube you can prolly get 75.

just dont get rid of anything that'll be hard to get back down the line, because that does suck.

Well, you probably won't get anymore money out of your systems than now. If you're serious about selling them, now is the time. They are only going to lose value and you will make less off them.

I got burned out years ago and sold all my PS1 Rpg's. A year later I realized that it was my true hobby and had to rebuild my entire collection. If you look at my list it was rather expensive on some counts. Now I just don't get rid of games at all really. I make more than enough money to support my habit. I figured out that other hobbies I tried got boring and that I kept coming back to games. You will regret it in the end. Trying to find some of those games I needed was a real bitch and costly. I didn't really make enough money when I sold my games to be worth it. I am now selling all the crap I bought for the other hobbies like airsoft which I regret.

I'd say sell all the games and systems you don't play often and keep your favorites. That way you won't regret it later, but you'll still have a fair amount of cash. I only ever really own 10-20 games at a time. When I'm done with one I sell it, unless it's really amazing.

I see what you guys are saying about keeping them stacked away. Maybe its time for me to sell some of my systems. Its not about the money at all. Its just about moving on.

If you are really sure about ending your gaming career, then like punq said: now's the time.

But honestly, I think your best option (like others have said) is to maybe just put away everything. Box it all up, systems, games, keep your SP out. Then, go pursue some of your other interests. IE. Take a break. I myself took a hiatus from gaming years ago, a couple years in fact. I was just done with it (around the end of the SNES era). School picked up, and time was slim. I missed out on a lot of stuff, but when I met my bf several years ago, who's a big gamer, he brought me back into the gaming world. Now I'm glad I kept all my old-school games and systems, and of course I've bought new consoles and games.

So, take a break for a while. Keep everything. See what you feel like in the years to come. I highly recommend keeping everything, even if they are packed away. Someday you might get a wave of nostalgia and want to play some of your old favorites. And if not for that, for the value and rarity that these games will eventually be, just like Atari and other old systems. :)

Whenever I get burned out on something (like video games, or remote control cars, or other "toys"), I box them all up and put today's date on the box and store it, that way it's out of sight. Then, every few months, I sort through our storage, and anything that has gone six months since it was boxed up and I've had no interest in playing with it again gets either sold or thrown away, depending on the value. You never know, taking a few months off might renew your interest in gaming as well!

i orderd some free boxes from the USPS and along with shipping things, they are great for holding systems and accessories. Ive got a box of just N64, another of Genesis, and a few more for other systems. they stack nicely, and when i feel like some retro fun (that hasnt been ported to GBA yet...) i can just pull out a box and im all set.

Ive actually gone back and gotten some systems i had previously sold off for certain games...and the way it works out $ wise, i should have never sold them in the first place.

Also, if your thinking about "moving on", question wether its because you no longer like doing it, or if its for your self-image. If its because you no longer enjoy gaming, have fun on E-bay. If your doing it because you feel its holding you back/making you act childish/doesnt look good to friends...get some boxes and hide them from yourself until you come around and miss those items.

Honestly, move on if you feel it is what you need in your life to make yourself happy at this time. I play games like 5 hours a week now if that. I never let gaming stop me from doing other things though. Saturday I went with friends bowling and then to see an Elvis impersonator at some dive bar. Had a great time because it was so stupid but I know gamers that would stay home instead. I can't play a game for more than 2 hours at a time now. I need more in my life now. Just thin down what you don't really want any more and go have some fun. Like they say, if it was meant to be it will come back to you. That doesn't just apply to women and frisbees.

Let me put it this way since the same thing crosses my mind every waking moment. And i collect everything i mean everthing, and have virtual millions wrapped up in this addiction. If you have a good job, i mean goood, went to college and got a decent degree, i mean money making, have an inheritance coming to you in the future or know somehow you will finacially be set, I mean real money not just hanging on by a string. Then keep it all. Some things in a collection will only appreciate. Maybe not most all games but screw it. Oh and if you dont have a combo of things above and you are gonna need bail or the like sometime. Sell now immediately and invest.

Well its not because self image. im not ashamed im a Gamer. Also im not one of those guys who dont go out and see whats going on outside cause im gamin 24/7. I do go out all the time. I go to parties, bars, so on so on. I just sometimes thing to myself i gotta move on and do somethin new. But i think i might keep everything.

Beleive me i was at that point too..and i did sell stuff. You'll end up wanting that stuff back, unless you really didnt like it in the first place. Make it easier on Future You.
