Crazy fucker, and some people think the country would be better with him as president....

Here's just a little bit....

WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond and his staff tried to get the FBI (news - web sites) to build a case against civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. in 1965 on the grounds that King was "controlled by communists," according to a recently released FBI memo on the late senator from South Carolina.

J Edgar Hoover didn't need any encouragement to go after MLK Jr. This accusation wasn't just leveled by Strom Thurmond but countless prominent political leaders and millions of Americans. The FBI file on MLK Jr. is probably so thick as to need a hand truck to carry out the volumes.

There is little more complicated in this country than the evolution of racists minds. For example, the majority of our grandparents were racists, but can we still say they are today? My grandmother had black friends in the 50's, so she wasn't, though I don't know about my grandfather (he wasn't when I knew him, though his terminology was outdated, mainly the used of "colored"). And even thurmond and other segregationists (including the guy who recently died, who used weapons to keep black out of his restaurant), they were among the first to hire blacks to serve in there administrations. It would also be interesting to know how much gut feelings have changed, ie. you don't believe in racism, or act racist, though your casual unthought out response is still racist.
