Tipping the UPS guy?

Hey forum! :bouncy:

I need your help. I order about ten packages every month, should I give the UPS guy a tip? And how much?

Yes. And also start tipping your friends/ family and also, tip your dog (or cat) every time he/she uses the bathroom in the correct spot. Dogs prefer small bills and no coins; I'm sure cats carry coin purses so any form of tip is appreciated.

Actually...during the christmas season, most people stip. I use to be a ups guy, and a mailman...and during the holidays with people who are constant customers(10 packages a month or more), they usually just throw in dunkin donuts/starbucks gift card or like 10-20 bucks. But since you are posting this question on CAG, you kinda knew what your answer would be anyways!
 
We tip the UPS guy that delivers to the business every Xmas, normally $100, which isn't all that much considering how much he delivers and how much total weight all those deliveries amount to.
 
I asked a friend who worked at Fed-ex about it, he got tips from time to time. Thought never really crossed my mind to do it, handling a 3 pound package isn't that strenuous and the one time the UPS guy had to deliver some chairs I walked outside and took them off the truck myself .
 
Feel free to call UPS and say what a great job your delivery man does, be sure to get his name and truck number. A good word up at a higher level never hurt anyone. If you feel guilty at all for not tipping the guy, take five minutes and let his higher ups know he is doing a great job. Just an alternative....

Let me get this straight, you want to tip the guy who probably throws your packages around like it ain't shit? No.
 
If it's the same guy, I would tip him about $2 a day, if you can afford it.

If I order a Pizza that costs $13 w/delivery and I only have a $20, the guy gets a seven dollar tip. Asking for change back is kind of silly.

Don't tip him. UPS guys already make plenty of dough and there are lots of chances for overtime.

However, and I can't emphasize this enough, it is good manners to hook your driver up with some chocolates or something at Christmas time. That should set you back no more than $20 and that's a once per year event.
 
No need to tip. They get paid pretty well. Its not an easy job to get. You have to slave away in the warehouse for a long time to even be eligible to apply for the job, and then it generally takes a while since so many employees apply for driver jobs.
 
UPS drivers do quite well for themselves. There is considerable competition for UPS employees trying to get into those positions.

A guy delivering pizzas is usually not doing much better than minimum wage after his vehicle expenses are factored in. Any tip for him is far more meaningful, and like restaurant waitstaff, regarded as a given by the employer.

I would have to ask, is it usually the same guy/girl delivering to your area? I get different drivers every time. Just this past christmas for instance, a UPS Delivery guy came by at the same time the pizza delivery guy. As I opened up my door, a package was tossed at my door bounced off almost hitting me. And I just shook my head. Luckily it was clothes or something for my sister. Even so, that kind of behavior is unacceptable. I would have called up UPS for a pickup, and have it RMA'd as defective. Even if it was clothes. Kind of off topic but yeah sorry about that. Anyways if the guy/girl is nice I guess. And you have the cash to spend.

Yes it is always the same guy. And the boxes are always neatly on the steps so I don't think he throws them. Very nice! :bouncy:
 
if you tip him, then we'll all have to start tipping them out of courtesy or something... unless it's some really hot UPS chick, then maybe I'll give her a different kind of tip

We totally used to do that shit. We once had a guy order a full set of 32" rims, each one in it's own box and the guy lived on the third floor of an apartment building. We carried them upstairs, two at a time, two to each of us just to find out the guy wasn't home. Per company protocol, you can't leave packages at apartment doors, you have to take them to the main office. Instead of carefully carrying down the 3 flights of winding stairs, we straight chucked them over the rail into a pile of pine straw. Good times.

If you have the same person most of the year buy them a gift card or something small for the holidays.
 
I don't even know my UPS guy/girl. Whoever it is, they're friggin' ninjas. No matter how fast I run to the door, they're never there, only the package. I don't even see the brown truck.
 
I tip my mailman. Gave $25 for Christmas. Not much, but it's something. I get 75 packages a year, and he has to lug all those things around, it's the least I can do.
 
I live in a place with community mailboxes. They pull a car up to about 3 feet from em all, carry a few boxes out with everyones mail pre-sorted, open the boxes with a key, puts shit in, leaves.

If my mail carrier didn't bend every fucking thing I get, even stuff that easily could fit in unbent with "DO NOT BEND" on it, I might tip em. Current scenario is, I'll even get letters bent inside the box somehow. They are out to get me or something. Most tip they'd get from me, is me going Postal in a few years if I don't get a damn mail carrier that doesn't constantly piss me off.

Never even met the guy/girl even. But honestly, its sad.

And no, I don't mean pre-bent stuff, I mean it gets bent being shoved into the box. Even if it fits with lots of room unbent, it gets bent when they shove it in. >_>


I really should leave a tip of some dead fish in the outgoing box sometime.
 
I would probably give the local UPS people tips at Christmas, if they actually did a decent job getting me my packages.

More often than not, my packages are bent/torn, like they've been through Hell to get to my house.

The last few packages I got, the guy didn't even knock on the door. He simply placed my packages outside and left. The sidewalk was covered in snow, and the idiot just set them down in that. :bomb:

WTF! Paying $20 for a $13 pizza is just as silly!
