To buy another PS2 or not buy another, that is the question!!

Hmmm...well, browsing through the Fry's ad today, I saw the ultra sweet deal of :
PS2 online bundle
-Playstation 2 console
-Network Adapater
-ATV Offroad Fury 2
-Clock Tower (I really want another copy :X)
-Ford Racing
-Turok

I know the 2 last games are utter crap, but I'm surprised that Fry's is including all this even though the MSRP is only 150 for the bundle itself ^^ However..., the caveat is, I alerady have a PS2 w/ network adapter. It's an early launch model though, so it doesn't perform too well. It reads games eventually, but sometimes it doesn't at all. I've already called GS for a quote of 80 in credit, but I'm afraid once I bring it in and they see the broken seal.........:X :X :X (No, I didn't mod it myself. I didn't realize it when I bought it used, but OMG, it turned out the previous owner had already installed a mod chop in the ps2. I was a young, naive girl indeed when I made my first ps2 purchase -_-). Well, so I now pose the question to all you CAGers out there: Should I take the 80 dollar loss and get a new PS2?

Oh wait here's some other things I need to add/know please ^^;
-I mostly play online now, since I got the NA, I've been addicted to mostly FFXI and RE:O
-It reads RE:O alright...75% of the time. The PS2 boots up and takes about 3 mintutes to recognize the disc. If even.
-I have the HDD in it. I heard that when I take it out of the old PS2 and insert it into a new one, I'll have to reformat it. Is this true?

It sounds to me like you wouldnt be able to send it to sony for the free DRE repair because of the Mod chip, so your best bet is to take the 80 bucks.

And yeah You'd probably have to reinstall the games because supposedly you cant use one game in another system to prevent copying someone elses game and playing it without paying for it.

i have a ps2 from its launch date, and while it still works pretty damn good, it sometimes has a hard time reading the discs.

so my wife got me another for xmas.

Yes, I've tried to send it to Sony, but of course they sent it right back :\

Damn, I wish I was more careful back then..:\
At least it doesn't give me *that* many DREs though ^^

Why the hell would it drop again? It was selling to begin with, and now even more with the recent price drop. I really doubt you'll see another one for awhile, especially if they are delaying the PS3 like alot of reports are saying.
 
We wont see anything on PS3 untill M$ anounces xb2, I have a good feeling on this. Though I'm thinking Sony may try to put out a PSTWO around the same time as the PSP launch to try anc get sales to pick up and that'd be the time to drop the price.

I never said it would not take a while for it to drop, but considering that at Christmas time the market is going to be flooded with so many good games on every system (unlike last year), something is going to have to give and it will either be big bundles or price cuts.
 
I know Target has a deal coming up where you get a 3-piece speaker system free when you buy the PS2 online bundle for $150. I'm sure you could pick up Clock Tower 3 from someone here for less than $10 shipped, so for ten extra bucks, you could have speakers instead of Turok and Ford Racing. Just another option out there if you really intend on getting a new PS2.
 
i guess u should wait a little while longer and get a PSX instead. oh well, if you are ok for jap version then u can already buy that online

The PSX costs about $700. BIG difference between 700 and 150.
 
PSX is not going to come here, sorry. It sold horrible in Japan and have haulted manufacturing, so the chances of it comming here are pretty much none, and PSONE didn't come out until a while after PS2 came out so i am expecting the same thing with the PSTWO.

I know its a long time from this post, but I was reading it and thought, "Holy Snap! Sony did unleash a PSTwo around the time news about the PSP came along!" Bravo for your psychic-esque post!!
