Does anyone know anything about Top Shot Dinosaur Hunter? It looks and sounds like shovelware, but hunting dinosaurs is relevant to my interests, possibly even in the shovelware context.

It was apparently released this year by Activision and includes a plastic shot gun:

Big Lots has it right now for $20. I know it can't be worth that much, but I was wondering if anyone here has played it on some off-chance?

I honestly didn't know that it existed until I saw the ad for it, to be honest.

I'm also interested, just to see if this isn't complete crap.

I don't know a thing about the game, but I like the cut of your jib.

I coulnd't find any gameplay videos on YouTube or a game review on any website. I checked it on Amazon and it said it was $79.43 new, so I would get it to see how it is.

Sounds like its almost a Big Lots exclusive. Anyone check Big Lots? I was there on Christmas Eve to pick up one thing and I didn't see it when I glanced at their Wii-stuff setup.

I think I read somewhere online that someone bought their's from a Walmart or something, so I don't think that it's a store exclusive.

Okay, my Dad got me this game for Christmas (kind of a joke gift, but it had shooting and dinosaurs so whatever). After having played it for 2 hours, I can easily call it a piece of dung. The primary fail points thus far are:
1. Erratic aiming system that will frequently lose the targeting recticle, preventing you from doing anything but getting eaten until the game finds it again.
2. Horrible weaponry, the only effective ones are rapid-fire guns that blow through ammo like water.
3. Enemies that move way too fast despite incredibly small and hard to hit vital points.
I finally got fed up after being eaten by the same pack of raptors for the 8th time in a row before turning the accursed thing off.

Didn't really have any high-intentions for the game, kinda expected it to suck. Why can't we have some decent 3rd Party Wii games (with the exception of the Trauma Center series)?

So against my own better judgement, I continued playing the game and will admit that it does get better, or at least playable. The game is a excrutiating slog in the beginning, until you get the shotgun(which is a freaking godsend). From there on out the game works out just fine. One more piece of advice: never bother with a any non-assault rifle, they're useless.

Damn, after hearing about how it plays, I'd probably pick this up at sub-$5, possibly sub-$10 if I feel like blowing more money, but I feel like hardly anyone will ever own this game thus it'll only sell for outrageous, or at least far too expensive, prices.

So far its sold for: $45 (x 3), $48.01, and $61.01 on Ebay since December 21. That's absurd.

I found this interesting. It's a review from Amazon:

I purchased this for my dinosaur loving son as a Christmas gift. You can imagine our disappointment to find out that it is the same game as, Jurassic The Hunted, just with a different name and a shot gun. I will be contacting Activision with my complaints tomorrow morning.

I wonder why Activision published the same game under two different titles? Was that necessary to bundle it with a plastic gun?

A quick Google search brings up:

Top Shot: Dinosaur Hunter is a special version of Jurassic: the Hunted, made for play with the Top Shot gun accessory.

In this epic shooter set on a dark, mysterious island lost in time, players assume the role of weapons and survival expert Craig Dylan, who has been hired to protect a research team studying the strange temporal energy of the island. Protection quickly becomes a fight for survival as Dylan is pulled back in time through the Bermuda Triangle and finds himself facing the most terrifying creatures in the history of the planet.

Combat encounters include arena style fights, fortification sieges, survival modes and unforgettable boss battles. Adrenaline bursts give you an edge – this cinematic gameplay feature allows the player to visualize and then target an opponent’s weak points in slow motion.

Also known as: Dinosaur Hunter, Top Shot: Jurassic: The Hunted -- Dinosaur Hunter, Top Shot: Dinosaur Hunter (Game & Top Shot Gun)

I guess Dino Strike is a more interesting revelation since this is just a Jurassic: The Hunted re-brand.
