Toy R Us thinking about selling toy business!

I don't see anything about bankruptcy, TRU is restructuring so they might simply get rid of their stores and go with Babies R US and online/international retail.

Your right I misspoke, I changed the title.

"Video game sales, which account for 13 percent of U.S. toy sales, rose 2.4 percent in the third quarter after a weak performance in the first half. Eyler said this could mean a two-year decline in video game sales had hit bottom. "

Maybe if they would update their prices more, people would buy games there more often. It seems like in the 3rd quarter was when they finally started to have good markdowns with the green tag sale.

RUMOR the TRU in fort wayne indiana is closing come the end of jan 2005... Dude at BB told me that is the reason they are no longer price matching TRU ads

I worked for TRU for 11 years, and I was "restructured" out of my job there twice...once 2 years ago when I was managing the R-Zone at the store I worked at, and again a couple months ago. I was stupid to go back after losing my job the first time, but the company is alot worse off than their letting on to. Breaking off Babies R Us into an autonomous company was just something that they couldn't hide, and they only did it because TRU was dragging down the profits of the BRU chain. The moral of the story is...don't be surprised if your favorite TRU gets shut down next year.

they have overpriced toys, and they are suffereing from it...I had heard awhile ago, they were thinking about getting rid of the toys r us, and just keeping the more profitable babies r us...that is corporate america...have to change with the times

Wow this is a suprise. I don't really know what to think of it except that I'll be a bit sad if they do go. TRU was a special place when I was a kid, it's not anymore, but I do have fond memories.

Wasn't there a story about a kid who ran into a video game display at TRU and opened their head? I'm sure they have fond memories as well.

So becuase one father didn't watch his kid they should close all TRU's down?
Christ, I'm sure all of the older people here remember growing up and going to TRU as a child. It was a special thing for a kid.

This is the official TRU line I was told at our last 'meeting' a couple of months ago.

TRU and Babies R Us are splitting. No, TRU is not being sold. NO STORES WILL BE CLOSED BEFORE CHRISTMAS. Afterwards, maybe. They were vague about that. The store isn't going under, not yet anyway. All I know is that my store has been hitting sales goals daily, so I'm not overly worried. Wal-Mart has been hitting us hard, but that's good, because we've finally started paying attention to competitive pricing. If you've noticed, our video game prices have actually been reasonable of late.

Competition is a good thing, and I really don't think TRU will be going anywhere anytime soon...although a store or two might disappear.

So many Toys r Us around me have been closing for the past couple of years, they used to dominate back in the day in videogames and toys.

I wasn't implying that all TRUs should be closed because of that incident. I'm just saying not everyone had fond memories of that place and would be sad to see it go.

yep i agree with you, thats pretty much the same thing i heard at the store meeting, they said to exspect the lowest profible stores to close(ours is the highest in teh region(out of 8 stores). Yep I work r zone and notice price dropes at least once a week on games :), la pucelle tactics is 14.99 at my store, but different at others

La Pucelle is $15 at your store?!?

(will be sure to price-check that tomorrow)

But yeah, when I first started at TRU 3 years ago, our video game prices were ridiculous. We needed this kick in the ass. I work in the R-Zone too, and it's a nice feeling, walking in to work and getting to do price markdowns.

weird thing is la puceille at the TRU 20 misn away has it for 24.99
I wanna see what would happen if all the stores closed.........THE DEALS MAN!!!!!! THE DEALS!!!!!!!!
I'd expect them to move their stock to other stores that make the profit. But secretly I'm waiting to see what kind of deals they have should they close a few stores.

TRU was THE place to be when I was a kid. Just looking in awe at everything they had. I loved that whole glass case area they had with the game systems, accessories, and RC cars that you looked at as a child in awe. Now it's just a mess.

What beat TRU is the fact that stores like BB, CC, EB and GS would literally mop the floor with them in terms of deals... It basically boiled down to how long a game has been out and what the price was. If I can get a game for less than expected at one of the other stores when TRU is still asking for $50, then guess where I'm going... BTW, I'm SO there tomorrow at my TRU when they do their markdowns... Xenosaga will be mine... ^_^

They're not closing anything until after Christmas because they want to squeeze every penny out of the stores before they start closing stuff down. The execs only care about their own profits...not the profits of the company. That's why they keep giving themselves bonuses while all management positions have been under a wage freeze for the past 2 years & you have to get an AE evaluation to get a raise now if you're under your own wage cap. This summer in the store I worked at, 4 employees got raises...everyone else got squat. The company isn't going out of business next year, but don't be surprised if more stores than you think close down.
