Palisades Tartan is running a special offer where if you like them on Facebook, you can get the Triad Trilogy set (Election, Triad Election, and Triad Underworld) for $15.99 on blu-ray or $11.99 on DVD with free shipping. These are currently listed at $19.99/$16.99 on Amazon, so this at least saves a few more dollars.

Here's a link to the offer:

Here's a link to the info on the set on blu-ray.com (no review yet as of this posting):
http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Triad-Trilogy-Blu-ray/34838/

And IMDB links for the films:
Election: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0434008/
Triad Election: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0491244/
Triad Underworld: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0415080/

I haven't seen the movies, but I've been told that the Election films at least are good examples of the Chinese gangster movie genre. Triad Underworld is not related to the other two films by anything other than genre.

The set is officially released this coming Tuesday, March 13th. I've never ordered from Palisades Tartan directly before, but I have ordered from them as 3rd party sellers on Amazon (they sell there as "MovieDepot") and they were quick to ship.

Don't know anything about these movies but that's a solid deal. Going to blind buy it.

It should be mentioned that you have to checkout via paypal

Great deal! I pre-ordered this set from Amazon a couple months ago. It was originally $20.99, but at one point dropped to $18.99. I'm going to keep my order with Amazon only because I'm paying with credit.

Anyone on the fence needs to order this set. The Election films are great. The first film is worth $16 by itself. I haven't seen Underworld, so I can't comment on that one.

Yea and it also charges sales tax including 9.75% if you live in CA (???). Amazon is selling for $19.99 as well.

That must vary by state, as I didn't get charged sales tax on my order. Anyway, even with that, it's still cheaper than Amazon. Why would you pay more just out of spite for having to pay sales tax?

my only concern is the quality as I just found out they're all on one disc. The total runtime is 275 minutes, and there's probably no extras so it's possible that quality won't be sacrificed, but still I'd prefer multiple discs.

Where did you see that? Blu-ray.com is listing it as a three-disc set, though I don't know the source of their info.

Amazon lists it as a single disc. If you search the UPC (842498000878) you'll also see several other retailers listing it as 1 disc.

I guess I'm not that surprised considering the bargain price for all three movies.

edit: Now confirmed on their FB page:

Palisades Tartan No bonus features, just 3 films on 1 Blu-Ray6 minutes ago
I just found out they're all on one disc.
I was gonna ask around about this on the forums, but I believe you are correct. The case images were very thin and the lack of mention made me suspect there couldn't be multiple discs.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I'm still getting a copy. Hope they actually tried to optimize the films and aren't treating this like a dinky bargain-bin compilation.

Further info on the quality:

Palisades Tartan I don't think any reviews have come out yet, so we can't give an unbiased answer...but the audio is 5.1 DTS HD MA and the video looks good - compression is around 25mbps from what we recall. Hope this helps!3 minutes ago

Sounds like it'll be OK. Maybe not perfect, but more than adequate, especially for the type of movie these are (i.e., they're not big glossy Hollywood productions anyway, so they're not going to look like that no matter what they do).

Didn't say I would though I have Prime and would receive it much faster. Just letting everyone know if they would rather use Amazon.

Just got my shipping notice from Palisades Tartan through Paypal. So apparently they've started shipping these out.

Yeah, I've got Prime too, and I originally had this pre-ordered from Amazon before this offer came up. But I decided that since this is basically a blind impulse purchase anyway, it doesn't really matter how quickly I get it. Might as well save a few more bucks.

Got mine today. Just a plain paper envelope with no padding whatsoever, but it miraculously arrived intact anyway. Guess you can't expect too much for a big discount and free shipping.

Wow. So someone over at blu-ray.com did an analysis of the disc, and these are basically at DVD quality. Each of the individual movie encodes would fit on a DVD, and the three of them together don't even fill a BD25.

So if you haven't ordered yet, you might want to avoid it (or just get the DVDs). Can't believe Palisades Tartan pulled this crap. Sorry for steering you guys to it. :whistle2:(
