Tricky situation: Roommate's nephew stole my PSP

Here is the situation: I live in collegiate housing, and one of my roommates had his nephew stay with us for a couple days. I put my PSP into a drawer everytime I am not playing it. I leave for school on Wednesday afternoon, come home Wednesday night, and it's gone. The only one in my apartment during the time I was gone was my roommates nephew. I asked him and my roommate if they had seen it, and they said no.

The tricky part is, I don't want to completely alienate the guy I have to live with, and grill him about his nephew, who has since skipped town, stealing my PSP. So how do I broach the subject? I could go to the collegiate housing office and complain, and see how they handle it.

Also, this roommate of mine...is somewhat of a scary dude. I get the mail for our apartment, and he's always getting stuff from County Corrections, so I am assuming he's had run ins.

Advice?

Grill him about your PSP, and demand him to find you another one or buy another one.

Then stitch your buttocks together when you go to sleep.

You've always seemed like a very blunt, straight to the point, no bullshit, kinda guy OP. I'm surprised you didn't start grilling him the moment he became a suspect...

Kid took it. Beat him up.

Get a safe or a lockbox.

Er... assault your roommate's nephew at his home, take back your PSP, then get a safe or a lockbox.

Hold a gun when answering these questions and smile at him. Every time he threatens you, bring up those corrections mails that he constantly gets and say "Who's gonna believe you?"

Ask him if he really wants you to call the police (given his past). Unless he just dosen't give a fuck, i bet he gets the shit back.

I didn't think someone like VanillaGorilla could be so anti-confrontational.

But if he touches your stuff, you talk to your roommate about it.
But I'd first make sure you didn't just misplace the damn thing, so you don't accuse him of doing something he didn't.
Quit being a bitch and talk to your roommate.
Right answer.

Serious? He's tenacious as a motherfucker, at least on the boards. I'll give him that. No matter how many inane threads he starts and gets them shoved back down his throat he keeps coming back for more. He's basically the unofficial CAG punching bag.
Steal something expensive of your roommate's, bring it to a pawn shop, put that money towards a new PSP.
I second this.

I second not living with someone else. I'm all for things everyone should experience at some point in their lives, but this is not one of them. My home is my domain and I can barely get over visitors coming over at all. (Yeah, we go to other people's houses 95% of the time)

Bah, you people don't know the situation. I didn't want to get all accusatory and alienate a guy who didn't steal it.

I asked my roommate about it last night, and he said he's going to his sisters house this weekend (the kids mom) and that he'll either get mine back, or take one of his 2 other PSP's he owns. Seems like everything is squared away.

glad its resolved.

if he is getting shit from county corrections, how do you know he didn't steal it with his nephew there as a fall guy?
Update: roommate ended up buying me a PSP, it's not a slim, but I think I actually prefer the bigger model, since it fits my hands better.
Thx for updating, I'm still pissed we'll never find out what happened to that other guy and the food stealing - after all that advice!

Any word on what went on with his nephew?
Aren’t slims more expensive ? IF so aren’t you losing out if he bought you the cheaper older version ?
A PSP is a PSP as far as I am concerned.
Seems he's a pretty decent guy to replace something somebody else stole. Hopefully he dimed the kid to his mom.
I have a feeling he didn't buy the Phat PSP, regardless of what VanillaGorilla says.
