for some reason it says that it can't connect to the internet. I have tried going directly from the modem to the xbox but it still can't connect. Do i need to input my xbox live key code first or could it be something to do with my xbox settings, or even my broadband carrier (CableOne). I am totally stumped. Can anyone PLEASE help me out?

typically the xbox will configure it's IP settings automaticaly...but you may need to input your ISP's settings - like DNS server and Gateway.
If you had to do any type of configuring to your PC to get on your ISP...chances are you'll need to do the same for your xbox...
you could also check with your ISP if they support Xbox Live and see if they'll give you some assistance. I know RoadRunner has a help section regarding Xbox Live.
Another thing I'd suggest is getting a broadband router...which will allow you to share your internet connection between other devices (pc & xbox)..that way you dont' need to keep plugging, unplugging, ect...

EDIT: Oh...lookie here...they DO have a sectionon on console help!
