Trouble with XP re-install

I had been having a ton of errors with my computer. Zune wouldn't connect, blue screen on shutdown, etc.

I decided that the easiest fix would be to just start all over and re-install windows.

This is what I did, and it was fine until it asked me to insert the disk labled Windows XP Proffesional SP 2. It needed the file iexplore.exe. I insert the update disk the XP came with and this did nothing. Tried a burned disk of SP2, and again, nothing.

I went ahead and finished the install, and when it loaded up I knew something wasn't right.

First off, there was no internet explorer.
Second, whenever I tried to install something, installshield gave me a 1602 error.
Third, there was no XP theme.

Any advice on a fix for this? I really just want to get the computer running so I can sell it and buy one with a warranty and tech support (I built this one)

Yes redo your xp install, make sure to do a full format not the quick. If you don't want to do that again try the Disk Defragmenter

What you told us there is a little confusing, so I have a couple of questions for you: Does your copy of Windows XP Professional have SP2 included? Meaning, once you installed XP you are already running SP2? Or do you have to install SP2 separately AFTER you've done installing XP? If it's the former, it's possible that your CD is scratched and rendering it unreadable in some areas that contain the missing data.

What you can possible do though, is to install SP2 (downloaded from Microsoft's website directly) right now onto your 'messed up' Windows XP. It may or may not do the trick but it is certainly something you can do to try.

I did a fresh XP reinstall not to long ago. Just install XP to c: and let it do a complete format not a quick. don't install anything else... go to microsoft.com and download there update tool and get all the service packs and fixes from them. Also my dell had a resource and drivers cd i had to reinstall for all my correct drivers that xp didnt detect... everything worked like a charm i just went back and changed whatever M$ set up that i didnt' like/want.

No, it doesn't have it included. It's actually an OEM Media Center Edition 2005. It came with a disk label Updates for 2005 edition.
I thought it might be the disk too, so I downloaded a torrent of it and burned a new copy. Got the exact same error.

I tried installing SP2 on the messed up XP and it didn't work.

I can't get on the internet without my wifi adapter....which needs drivers. The drivers won't install because of that 1602 Installshield error.
